    Estimation of the Synchronization Time of a Transmission System through Multi Body Dynamic Analysis

    The essential component in transmission system is synchronizer. Synchronizer developed to obtain gear changing smoothly. Reducing the transmission time will increase the efficiency of the transmission system and minimize the energy loss during the shifting process. In order to achieve the optimized design, the time estimation for synchronizing process is necessary. In this present study, the multi body dynamic model is proposed to predict the synchronization time. For validation of the results two different synchronizer types, single cone and double cone were used in the test rig machine under different loading conditions. The results of multi body dynamic analysis were compared to experimental and analytical results and show that there is a good agreement between simulation and experimental results. Using the multi body dynamic analysis makes more accurate result to predict the synchronization dynamic behavior, especially synchronization time

    Image reconstruction from partial Fourier measurements via curl constrained sparse gradient estimation

    In this paper, we propose new gradient-based methods for image reconstruction from partial Fourier measurements, which are commonly used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or synthetic aperture radar. Compared to classical gradient recovery methods, a key improvement is obtained by formulating the gradient recovery problem as a compressed sensing problem with the additional constraint that the curl of the gradient field must be zero. Moreover, we formulate the image recovery problem as an inverse problem on graphs. Iteratively reweighted ℓ1 recovery methods are proposed to recover these relative differences and the structure of the similarity graph. Finally, the image is recovered from the compressed Fourier measurements using least squares estimation. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the state-of-the-art image recovery methods

Although the focus is on four-dimensional theories, an overview of the gauging procedure and the related tensor hierarchy in the higher-dimensional models is given.     Functionalized ZnO nanowires for microcantilever biosensors with enhanced binding capability

    An efficient way to increase the binding capability of microcantilever biosensors is here demonstrated by growing zinc oxide nanowires (ZnO NWs) on their active surface. A comprehensive evaluation of the chemical compatibility of ZnO NWs brought to the definition of an innovative functionalization method able to guarantee the proper immobilization of biomolecules on the nanostructured surface. A noteworthy higher amount of grafted molecules was evidenced with colorimetric assays on ZnO NWs-coated devices, in comparison with functionalized and activated silicon flat samples. ZnO NWs grown on silicon microcantilever arrays and activated with the proposed immobilization strategy enhanced the sensor binding capability (and thus the dynamic range) of nearly 1 order of magnitude, with respect to the commonly employed flat functionalized silicon devices

    Quasi-solid aqueous electrolytes based on bio-derived polymers

    In recent years, with the idea of creating efficient, safe, and low-cost DSSCs, the research moved the attention towards alternative solvent-based electrolytes. Above all, DSSCs with water-based electrolytes have been proposed as one of the possible solution providing reduced costs, non-flammability and environmental compatibility. Recently we demonstrated that stability issues can be properly addressed by choosing the appropriate dye. Moreover, the possibility of gelling the liquid solvent into a polymeric matrix can reduce the electrolyte leakage outside the device, increasing the long-term stability. In this contribution, the investigation on a series of iodine and cobalt-based 100% aqueous electrolytes is presented. Thanks to our previous experience and to a multivariate approach (Design of Experiment), the effects of the change in redox mediator concentrations and in photoanode preparation on DSSCs performances have been evaluated. Finally, the gelation of the best aqueous electrolytes with bio-derived polymers has been performed. Photovoltaic performances and stabilities will be discussed by comparing liquid and gel electrolytes. In lab-scale solar cells interesting photovoltaic performances superior to 4% were achieved
