CuO nanoparticles supported by ceria for NOx-assisted soot oxidation: insight into catalytic activity and sintering
Rank two aCM bundles on general determinantal quartic surfaces in \p3
Let F\subseteq\p 3 be a smooth determinantal quartic surface which is general in the N\"other--Lefschetz sense. In the present paper we give a complete classification of locally free sheaves \cE of rank on such that h^1\big(F,\cE(th)\big)=0 for t\in\bZ
Business Modeling of a City Logistics ICT Platform
Interest in City Logistics has been increasing among scholars, the industry, local administrations and various stakeholders. In particular, a number of projects have been developing with the aim of overcoming the negative impact of urban parcel delivery and making it more efficient and sustainable, from both the operations and environmental standpoints. However, most of these initiatives are more focused on technical solutions, regardless of the potential long-term economic feasibility and fitting with the stakeholders' needs. In order to take into account the actual feasibility of CL initiative, this paper presents the case study of the Urban Electronic Logistics (URBeLOG) project, carried out with the aim to develop an ICT platform to support and improve urban last-mile logistics in two pilot cities, namely Turin and Milan (Italy). The definition of the business model of the solution has been obtained through two sessions of the Business Model Canvas wherein all the partners of the project together with a representative of the public authority have taken part. The project combines the emphasis on the ICT solution with a stakeholder-driven approach to business model design

Risk Management in Hospital Wards: The Case of Blood Procurement and Handling
Blood transfusion is among the most complex healthcare processes including a variety of interrelated sub-processes of different nature. Therefore, it is highly exposed to risks and such a fact is witnessed by the several errors and adverse events occurring every year. Although there is quite a significant body of literature about risk management in transfusion, risks connected with blood product procurement and handling have been scarcely investigated. The present work integrates three risk management tools developed in the project management and manufacturing areas to put forward a structured approach to identify and analyze causes of risks, their manifestations and effects. Its first application to a hospital ward revealed its potential to generate knowledge about blood transfusion uncertainty and the associated criticalities, thus increasing the level of maturity towards risks of healthcare organizations. Future research will refine and extend the approach by applying it to various healthcare settings
Experimental tests on commercial Sweet Product Residue (SPR) as a suitable feed for anaerobic bioenergy (H2+CH4) production
Food stores can find themselves in the position of having to dispose of different types of products, such as snacks, confectionery, prepackaged food, drinks and others, Sweet Product Residue (SPR), which presents a great opportunity to produce energy through Anaerobic Digestion (AD), due to its high sugar, carbohidrate and fat contents. In order to valorise SPR, this paper takes into consideration the all necessary treatments; owing the fact that the refuses are constitute by an organic part and packaging (plastic, paper and their combinations), a pretreatment able to remove the latter is necessary. SPR refuse was initially subjected to novel pretreatment approach: extrusion at 200atm to remove the packaging, and a Basic Pre-treatment (BP) then tested through a Two-Stage AD (TSAD) process, for H2 and CH4 productions. The experimental results were analysed considering three parameters: Efficiency (ξ), which takes into account the quantity of the energy produced as hydrogen plus methane that the bioreaction is able to extract; Efficacy (η), which takes into account the efficiency of the actual test, compared with that obtained from a reference test carried out with glucose; Energy Sustainability Index (ESI), which takes into account the total amount of energy produced as H2 plus CH4, and the amount of energy consumed to pre-treat the refuse. The effectiveness of the extrusion process in removing the packaging was very high: about 80% of the organic part present in the SPR was recovered. The obtained results have pointed out that SPR is suitable for energy valorization process: ξ=50%, η=0.67 and ESI=24.4, without the need of basic pre-treatment
45 gradi Nord 7.65 gradi Est Mirafiori Sud
On the customization of the irradiation patterns of probes for laser tumor ablation with integrated temperature sensing capabilities
The paper reports some results on the customization of the irradiation pattern of an all-fiber applicator for laser induced thermal therapies of solid tumors. The probe exploits a double cladding fiber structure to simultaneously guide the high power beam for the ablation and the signals for the interrogation of embedded Bragg gratings that add temperature sensing capabilities. The probe was characterized using phantoms so as to mimic real situations while providing a repeatable environment for comparing the different solutions in terms of irradiation pattern shapes and induced temperature profiles
A compact diode laser based all-fiber delivery system for PDT+PTT with integrated temperature sensing capabilities
The paper first reviews the main laser based cancer therapies and then presents a new 9xx nm high power laser diode system specifically devised to irradiate carbon graphitic nanoparticles that have shown photodynamic and photo-thermal behavior when exposed to near-IR laser light. The peculiarity of the laser system is that its delivery is through a fiber probe that integrates Bragg gratings to allow monitoring the induced temperature increase without introducing artifacts due to the interaction with the laser beam. Experimental validations through EPR spectrum and temperature measurements on hydroxylated fullerene and carbon nanoparticle samples are provided to assess the effectiveness of the developed system
