STRATI DEI PALINSESTI E MODELLAZIONE SPAZIALE MULTI-SCALA: ANALISI INTEGRATE PER LA CONSERVAZIONE DI SISTEMI CULTURALI

    No full text
The 4DILAN project is an innovative integration of methods to set new analysis strategies for the knowledge of the built heritage and cultural landscape. The experimental cooperation between different disciplines and the related tools and techniques, which this work develops for the analysis of the architectural heritage and the historical territory, in particular focused on the Valperga Castle (Piedmont), are historic and stratigraphic surveys and 3D metric survey techniques with active and passive sensors, terrestrial LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) adding to aerial, close range photogrammetry and the newest mobile mapping system using SLAM technology (Simultaneous Localization And Mapping)

The surface admittance equivalence principle for cloaking problems

    No full text
In this paper, we apply a reformulated version of the Surface Equivalence Principle, originally defined for radiating phenomena in terms of tangential fields, to cloaking problems in terms of admittance functions at an arbitrary boundary. In order to cloak a dielectric/metallic object, the tangential fields ratio (admittance) can be controlled at any arbitrary attached/detached surface boundary. The dispersive surface admittance cloak, as originally introduced for Mantle Cloaking, is computed in a closed-form solution at any frequency regime (quasi-static and beyond)

    Human-Robot Interaction

    No full text
The spread of robotics in many sectors of human life is driving researchers to focus more and more on human-robot interaction (HRI). This multidisciplinary field addresses all of the issues related to the interaction between robots and people. HRI incorporates contributions from artificial intelligence, cognitive science, human factors, psychology and social science, among others. This paper provides a summary of the main themes of HRI from the point of view of both technology and the user experience

    Noncommutative Cauchy integral formula

    No full text
The aim of this paper is to provide and prove the most general Cauchy integral formula for slice regular functions and for continuously differentiable functions on a real alternative *-algebra. Slice regular functions represent a generalization of the classical concept of holomorphic function of a complex variable in the noncommutative and nonassociative settings. As an application, we obtain two kinds of local series expansion for slice regular functions

Tritium extraction from lithium-lead in the EU DEMO blanket using Permeator Against Vacuum

    No full text
The current studies on the development of the EU DEMO breeding blanket include among the options the use of liquid Lithium-Lead (17Li-83Pb) as tritium breeder (and multiplier), with different coolants. As the tritium is steadily produced in the blanket during the reactor operation, suitably efficient strategies for the Tritium Extraction System (TES) from the breeder must be developed, allowing a closed fuel cycle in situ and avoiding tritium accumulation in the machine. The Permeator Against Vacuum (PAV) appears to be one of the most promising solutions to achieve this goal. In this paper, the performance of a PAV system is studied by means of different models describing the transport of tritium in the liquid PbLi and in the metallic membrane separating it from the vacuum. The comparison of the results for different membrane materials and size of the device, for a given target efficiency, allows to optimize the PAV design, also taking into account corrosion issues. The approximations and limitations of the adopted models are also addressed

Influence of LV Neutral Grounding on Global Earthing Systems

    No full text
International Standards define a Global Earthing System as an earthing net created interconnecting local Earthing Systems (generally through the shield of MV cables and/or bare buried conductors). In Italy, the regulatory authority for electricity and gas requires distributors to guarantee the electrical continuity of LV neutral conductor. This requirement has led to the standard practice of realizing "reinforcement groundings" along the LV neutral conductor path and at users' delivery cabinet. Moreover, in urban high-load scenarios (prime candidates to be part of a Global Earthing System), it is common that LV distribution scheme creates, through neutral conductors, an effective connection between grounding systems of MV/LV substations, modifying Global Earthing System consistency. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the effect, in terms of electrical safety, of the aforementioned LV neutral distribution scheme when an MV-side fault to ground occurs. For this purpose, simulations are carried out on a realistic urban test case and suitable evaluation indexes are proposed

E-Grocery Supply Chain Management Enabled by Mobile Tools

    No full text
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to study mobile services for supply chain management (SCM) in the electronic grocery (e-grocery) sector. The authors investigate their diffusion and formulate policies in order to stimulate the adoption. Design/methodology/approach - A System Dynamics model is proposed for a short fresh food supply chain (SC). The model predicts how product traceability, mobile payment, and time-based delivery management functionalities contribute to the adoption of a SCM mobile application. Findings - The three services drive the diffusion of the application. A high level of real time information brings decreased inventory levels and more frequent order placing, leading to an increased number of logistics transactions managed by the mobile application and growth in the associated revenue for the service provider company. Research limitations/implications - The proposed study fosters research on overcoming the barriers that prevent integration, collaboration, and better visibility in e-grocery SCs. Practical implications - This work constitutes a roadmap to identify the key enabling factors of e-grocery expansion. Originality/value - This is one of the few contributions focussing on increasing the efficiency of e-grocery SCs by applying management strategies supported by mobile devices

    Pre-optimization of asymmetrical underplatform dampers

    No full text
The numerical coupled optimization of an underplatform damper is the exploration of its dynamics through a finite element model which includes both the damper and the blades. This is an effective approach if the initial damper mass and geometry have been previously selected (i.e. pre-optimized) in such a way that those parameter combinations leading to undesirable damper behavior are ruled out a-priori: - ensure that damper jamming is avoided by ruling out the undesirable combinations of platform and friction angles; - ensure that damper lift-off is avoided through an appropriate choice of the shape and position of the damper-platform flat contact surface and the position of the damper mass center; - set upper and lower limits to the value of damper-platform contact forces (as a multiple of the damper centrifugal force), the first being related to friction and wear problems, the second to the very existence of bilateral contacts. The above is strongly dependent on effective values of friction coefficients, which can vary by a factor of over two with temperature, frequency, contact pressure. The paper illustrates the pre-optimization procedure using, as an example, a rigid bar damper with a curved-flat cross section. In order to validate the method against experimental data, and to determine the necessary real contact parameters, the paper capitalizes on the already developed tools presented in previous ASME papers: the test rig developed at the AERMEC lab, the numerical model representing the damper dynamics and the automatic random sampling tuning procedure

Semantic Enrichment for Recommendation of Primary Studies in a Systematic Literature Review

    No full text
A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) identifies, evaluates, and synthesizes the literature available for a given topic. This generally requires a significant human workload and has subjectivity bias that could affect the results of such a review. Automated document classification can be a valuable tool for recommending the selection of studies. In this article, we propose an automated pre-selection approach based on text mining and semantic enrichment techniques. Each document is firstly processed by a named entity extractor. The DBpedia URIs coming from the entity linking process are used as external sources of information. Our system collects the bag of words of those sources and it adds them to the initial document. A Multinomial Naive Bayes classifier discriminates whether the enriched document belongs to the positive example set or not. We used an existing manually performed SLR as benchmark data set. We trained our system with different configurations of relevant documents and we tested the goodness of our approach with an empirical assessment. Results show a reduction of the manual workload of 18% that a human researcher has to spend, while holding a remarkable 95% of recall, important condition for the nature itself of SLRs. We measure the effect of the enrichment process to the precision of the classifier and we observed a gain up to 5%
