Let S\subseteq\bP d be an anticanonically embedded surface of degree d3d\ge3. In this note, we classify stable Ulrich bundles on SS of rank two. We also study their moduli spaces

Collapse resistance assessment through the implementation of progressive damage in finite element codes

    No full text
Different procedures for assessing the robustness of a reinforced concrete (RC) frame under progressive damage are proposed and compared. The removal of a column in a RC frame structure is modeled with a commercial nonlinear finite element software according to three alternative strategies: (i) reduction of mechanical properties of the damaged column, (ii) incremental loading of the structure after total removal of the damaged column, and (iii) incremental unloading of internal forces on the damaged col- umn. Nonlinear analysis is performed under a prescribed load combination on three RC frames designed with three Italian building codes in force in different periods. Despite the differences in the strategies for damage modeling, similarities between structural response predictions are highlighted. In addition, it is shown that seismic design provisions for RC structures increase the ductility of the structure but do not necessarily guarantee robustness to progressive collapse scenarios

Il BIM per il Fire Engineering e per il Safety Management

    No full text

Methodologies for supporting sustainability in energy and buildings. The contribution of Project Economic Evaluation

    No full text
The European regulatory framework for building energy performance and international energy policies imply a multidisciplinary approach to sustainability involving disciplines such as Building Physics, Materials Science, Environmental Technology, Real Estate Appraisal and Project Economic Evaluation. The aim of the paper is to take advantage of the contribution of the last, highlighting economic-evaluative approaches involved in regulations and policies supporting sustainability in energy and buildings. Special attention is given to Directive 2010/31/EU (EPBD recast) and following Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) n.244/2012, which require Member States to set minimum energy performance requirements on the cost-optimal level. Furthermore, focus is placed on ISO 14040:2006, ISO 15686:2008 and ISO 21500:2012, respectively on Life Cycle Assessment, Life Cycle Costing and Project Management. Sustainable Design principles and Life Cycle Thinking approach are assumed. Focus is given to environmental and economic sustainability in terms of global performance, assuming energy performance as a proxy for building quality. The study aims to support decision making processes, public authorities in planning activities and in territorial governance, designers, real estate investors, even in the case of complex projects at different territorial scales

    African Cities: Defining a Paradox

    No full text
African cities have been catalysing great attention in the past decades, the narratives referring to them oscillating similarly to those of their continent: from alarmism to overoptimism. Literature has turned to the subject and a great number of publications about African cities have contributed to push forward the debate about their features and dynamics. At the same time, the very definition of the subject has been blurry. This paper aims to investigate the concept of African cities through the analysis of some of the most recent and relevant works that have been written on the subject, and the words of its authors. Our goal is to illustrate the common trends and the differences in their discourse when it comes to African Cities, and ultimately understand whether it can still be useful to utilize this concept or whether it is time to move on to more refined categorisations
