    Framework and consensus statement for the implementation of sided game training in football (soccer)

    Background: Sided games are very popular in football (soccer) training, designed to integrate technical, tactical, and physical development through the manipulation of constraints such as player numbers, pitch size, and rules, among other variables. However, inconsistent terminology, methodological heterogeneity, and limited empirical guidance have hindered its methodological advancement across research and practice. Objective: This consensus aimed to establish a unified framework and evidence-based recommendations for the design, monitoring, and application of sided games in football, providing conceptual clarity and practical guidance for coaches and sport scientists. Methods: A multidisciplinary group of 20 international experts in football science and coaching developed the framework through a three-stage process: (1) theoretical model development, (2) synthesis of priority areas based on an umbrella review of 12 systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and (3) iterative drafting and blinded consensus voting on statements using a 9-point Likert scale. Results: Seven statements achieved consensus (scores 7-9), defining sided games in soccer, delineating important influencing factors (coach philosophy, environmental, task, and individual constraints), defining monitoring principles, and highlighting benefits and limitations. The consensus confirmed sided games as effective for developing aerobic fitness and tactical-technical behaviors but less effective for strength, power, and high-speed performance adaptations. Conclusions: This consensus provides the first framework for sided game training in football, unifying terminology and guiding evidence-based design. Its implementation can enhance training coherence, optimize player development, and inform future research addressing existing methodological and population-specific gaps

    This article examines several aspects of the circulation of naturalist knowledge across the Atlantic, focusing on texts that disseminated in Europe the news of an eruption that occurred in the Andean region in 1600: that of the volcano near the Peruvian city of Arequipa, Huaynaputina. The study reconstructs the institutional and media channels through which first-hand information reached the main centers of knowledge production and dissemination, shedding light on the sequence of mediations and re-elaborations that led to both the selection of original testimonies and their transformation into typified narratives, subsequently fixed in texts that became, in some way, reference points.The article also seeks to provide a deeper understanding of how news of the catastrophe was received in Catholic Europe, and especially in the Kingdom of Naples, highlighting the adaptations and the aspects considered most compelling by Neapolitan authors and audiences. At the same time, it shows that, while knowledge from the American continent undoubtedly aroused fascination within Neapolitan society, it was neither systematically assimilated nor further developed, being at times dismissed as unusable, and at others as inconsistent with local traditions and the epistemological frameworks that characterized Naples’s learned circles

    Photocatalytic nanocomposites: mechanisms and influencing parameters to practical challenges

    Persistent pollution of water sources by refractory organic pollutants poses a significant threat to environmental sustainability and population health. While conventional wastewater treatment technologies have been widely implemented, they frequently demonstrate ineffectiveness to degrade complex organic contaminants, requiring alternative approaches for wastewater treatment. Semiconductor-based photocatalysts have been developed as an effective strategy capable of harnessing solar energy to achieve complete mineralization of organic pollutants as safe, natural substances. However, widespread implementation of traditional photocatalysts encounters challenges such as rapid electron-hole recombination, limited visible-light absorption, and insufficient long-term stability. This review systematically examines the recent breakthroughs in the design of nanocomposite-based photocatalysts aimed to address these challenges, focusing on key material engineering strategies such as defect modulation through controlled doping and oxygen vacancy formation, precise heterojunction construction including Type-I, Type-II, S-scheme, Z-scheme, p-n junctions, and Schottky junctions, concerning the analysis of how each architecture uniquely addresses the fundamental challenges in charge separation and redox potential maintenance. Furthermore, this review examines the impact of critical parameters (organic pollutant load, photocatalyst quantity, pH environment, dissolved ions, reaction temperature, and oxidants present) on the degradation performance covering a wide range of materials including 3D printed structures. Finally, existing limitations and potential research initiatives are elegantly discussed with emphasis on the need for scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable photocatalyst designs for real-world environmental remediation

    Recent Advances in Lanthanide Complexes in Biological Systems: Coordination Principles and Interactions with Biomolecules

    : Lanthanide ions and their complexes have emerged as versatile tools in biology and medicine owing to their unique photophysical, magnetic, and coordination properties. Their applications span bioimaging, sensing, therapy and diagnostics, underpinned by their strong preference for oxygen-donor ligands, kinetic stability, and tunable luminescence. This review integrates current developments in lanthanide coordination chemistry, focusing on the mechanistic basis of their interactions with biomolecules such as nucleic acids, proteins, and peptides. Moreover, this work highlights the design principles governing complex stability and biological compatibility, summarizing key biomedical uses of lanthanides ranging from imaging and drug delivery to anticancer and antioxidant effects, and discusses their toxicity and biodistribution, and their potential for clinical translation. In particular, this review offers a mechanistically oriented synthesis of recent advances, emphasizing the interplay between coordination behavior and biological function, and identifying emerging trends that define the current landscape of lanthanide-based bioinorganic research. By correlating molecular coordination features with biological performance, the review identifies the main trends shaping lanthanide-based bioinorganic research, also including a brief discussion of complexes formed between lanthanides and naturally occurring molecules, such as amino acids
