[370] Launching tower memorial with 1940 rocket replica at Roswell Museum, undated
Photograph of the launching tower Robert Goddard used in the early 1940s, now a memorial. Inside it is a replica of a 1940 rocket. This memorial resides at the Roswell Museum in Roswell, New Mexico. This photograph is part of the final section of Esther Goddard\u27s photo album titled A Few Informal Photographs, Through the Years . Not all of these photographs were taken by Esther.
\u27The Goddard Rocket Researches: A Photographic Record\u27 is an annotated photo album covering Robert H. Goddard\u27s work and experimentation with rocketry. It was assembled and curated by Esther Goddard sometime after her husband\u27s passing in 1945. Additionally, almost all of the photographs were taken by Esther herself.
Photographs were scanned at 400dpi.https://commons.clarku.edu/goddardphotographs/1369/thumbnail.jp
A scoping review of human digital twins in healthcare applications and usage patterns
Digital twins have become increasingly popular across various industries as dynamic virtual models of physical systems. In healthcare, Human Digital Twins (HDTs) serve as virtual counterparts to patients. According to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), a digital twin must be personalized, dynamically updated, and have predictive capabilities to—in the context of health care—inform clinical decision-making. This scoping review aims to assess the current state of HDTs in healthcare, examining whether the literature aligns with the NASEM definition and identifying trends. A systematic literature search was conducted, covering articles published from January 2017 to July 2024. Only 18 of the 149 included studies (12.08%) fully met the NASEM digital twin criteria. Digital shadows made up 9.4% of studies, general digital models comprised 10.07%, and virtual patient cohorts were another 10.07%. Only two studies mentioned verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification (VVUQ), a critical NASEM standard for model reliability. © The Author(s) 2025
Cynthia Enloe’s Final Clark Lecture: ‘Feminist Curiosity is for These Dark Times’
Feminist theorist and writer Cynthia Enloe is internationally renowned for her work on gender and militarism and for her contributions to the field of feminist international relations. In 2017, she was selected to be named on the Gender Justice Legacy Wall, installed in the International Crimes Court, The Hague. At Clark University, Professor Enloe served as director of the Women’s Studies Program and as chair of the Political Science Department, and received the Outstanding Teacher Award three times
A Lightweight and Cross-Platform Framework for Real-Time Energy Profiling of Mobile and VR Games
The growing popularity of mobile and virtual reality (VR) games has intensified the demand for high-performance graphics and immersive interactivity, often at the expense of significant energy consumption. This paper introduces a lightweight, cross-platform framework for real-time energy footprint analysis tailored to mobile and VR gaming applications. Unlike traditional profiling tools that are hardware-dependent or computationally intensive, the proposed framework employs low-overhead system-level monitoring to assess the power usage of critical subsystems, including CPU, GPU, network, and sensors. The framework captures dynamic energy consumption patterns during gameplay and presents actionable insights through module-wise analysis. Experimental evaluations across popular game titles on commercial mobile and VR devices reveal a strong correlation between game mechanics - such as rendering complexity and interaction intensity - and energy drain. The results demonstrate that strategic design adjustments informed by the framework, such as dynamic resolution scaling and optimized sensor usage, can lead to substantial improvements in energy efficiency without degrading user experience. This research contributes a scalable and developer-friendly tool for energy-aware game development, promoting longer battery life and enhanced device sustainability. The proposed framework serves as a foundational step toward integrating energy optimization into the core of mobile and VR game design practices. © 2025 IEEE
