Proposing a hybrid approach for emotion classification using audio and video data

approach of audio and text has been recently introduced. All such approaches have been done to raise the accuracy and appropriateness of emotion classification. In this study, a hybrid approach of audio and video has been applied for emotion recognition. The innovation of this
approach is selecting the characteristics of audio and video and their features as a unique specification for classification. In this research, the SVM method has been used for classifying the data in the SAVEE database. The experimental results show the maximum classification
accuracy for audio data is 91.63% while by applying the hybrid approach the accuracy achieved is 99.26%
Listening to the birds in the Waikato
The Cacophony Project aims to greatly improve the ability to eliminate pest predators through out New Zealand and monitor the effects on bird life that this brings. My involvement with the project through my research, is to help assess the effects that this pest control has, by collecting information about the changing quantity and type of bird species in these locations. We are currently building a technology infrastructure which will enable the automatic, ongoing recording and analysis from thousands of locations across New Zealand. The ability of mobile phones to make audio recordings and upload them to the internet combined with their low cost and availability were the reasons for choosing to use them as the basis for the recorder. Recordings are automatically uploaded to our computer server using wifi/mobile data or manual transfer from the phones memory card if neither are available.
Our aim is to apply artificial intelligence to transform these recordings into useful information. To help do this we first need to gather many examples of bird calls that have been correctly identified. With the help and support of the Hamilton City Council and the Waipa District Council, we are currently monitoring two locations in the Waikato, one of which is near one of the high points in Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari, inside a pest proof enclosure. These recorders are demonstrating that the technology can perform consistently in a remote locations using solar power and mobile internet. Secondly the bird calls that are recorded can be used to train our software – we can’t do that if we don’t have examples of the calls. We are now establishing a historic record of bird song at these locations that future researchers will be able to use to establish trends in bird life
Microstructural Characterization of Shrouded Plasma Sprayed Titanium Coatings
Titanium and its alloys are often used for corrosion protection because they are able to offer a high chemical resistance against various corrosive media. In this paper, shrouded plasma spray technology was applied to produce titanium coatings. A solid shroud with an external
shrouding gas was used to plasma spray titanium powder feedstock with aim to reduce the oxide content in the as-sprayed coatings. The titanium coatings were assessed by optical microscope, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, LECO combustion method and Vickers microhardness testing. The results showed that the presence of the shroud and the external shrouding gas led to a dense microstructure with a low porosity in the as-prayed titanium
coatings. The oxygen and nitrogen contents in the titanium coating were kept at a low level due to the shielding effect of the shroud attachment and the external shrouding gas. The dominant phase in the shrouded titanium coatings was mainly composed of α-Ti phase, which was very
similar to the titanium feedstock powders. The shrouded plasma sprayed titanium coatings had a Vickers microhardness of 404.2 ±103.2 H

Modelling of firm offer from combined wind and hydro generations
Abstract—This paper analyses the impact of a firm combined offer by wind and small hydro generators located in the river chain, with a view to address the intermittency of wind generators. Both generations are dispatchable and cleared against their offer prices. They offer a firm, hourly-schedule (WH schedule) for 24 hours ahead of real-time operation to an auction based locational marginal price (LMP) market with other generators offering to meet the system loads. The model network consists of other generators and loads at different buses. The scheduled power is taken off at a predetermined bus, as a load at the bus. This schedule must be met by the wind and hydro combined generations. If necessary, a notional thermal generation is available at a considerable higher price to meet the schedule, at the off-take point.
The objective is to minimise the total supply cost for 24 hours and examine LMPs and constraint-on costs while respecting the given WH schedule, nodal power balance constraint, generation limits, branch flow and other limits. Discussion is based on New Zealand (NZ) Electricity Market rules, where generators are self- committed into the market. Three scenarios are studied, and the results presented.

The spatiotemporal characteristics of 0–24-goal polo
Polo is an equestrian sport that requires two teams of four players to score goals at opposing ends of a 150 m × 275 m pitch. Each player is rated on a handicap system (−2 to +10) that quantifies their abilities and permits their inclusion in different levels of Polo play; the cumulative handicap of the four players sets the level of play. Using GPS technology, we investigated how levels of Polo differ regarding distance covered, speeds achieved and high-intensity activities performed. As cumulative Polo handicap increased, so too did the distances and average speeds attained, decelerations performed and impacts encountered during each period of play. These findings suggest that as each player improves and increases their handicap, they will need to ensure the ponies they play have sufficient aerobic, anaerobic and speed capacities to perform effectively at that level. This information provides valuable insights to Polo players, grooms and equine vets, as to how they can best prepare their ponies for game-day and how they may be able to maintain pony longevity in the sport
The influence of maturation on functional performance and injury markers in male youth
The aim of this study was to identify the influence of maturation on sprinting and jump performances, whilst quantifying injury markers in 95 youth males (age 13.2–15.7y). Comparative statistics were performed between maturation groups, identifying significant differences (p < 0.05) in all measured anthropometric variables. Sprint and jump performances were positively influenced (ES = trivial to large) by maturation status, whereas injury markers revealed no significant differences between groups. Increases in limb length, muscle size and muscular force output due to corresponding neuromuscular maturation, may help account for these improvements. Individuals’ within the circa PHV group exhibit a larger variability in sprint and jump performance when compared to the pre or post maturation groups. This variability may be attributed to the under-researched phenomenon of “adolescent awkwardness”. To conclude, performance characteristics of youth of similar chronological age vary considerably based on biological maturation, which may have consequences for long-term athlete development
The suitability of film for modelling the pragmatics of interaction: Exploring authenticity
Previous studies have highlighted the potential of film to promote the development of L2 pragmatics by presenting to learners the types of authentic, contextually-appropriate language use routinely absent from textbooks. However, the issue of authenticity is multifaceted and there has been little if any exploration of authenticity in terms of larger sequences within scripted texts. Sequence authenticity is particularly relevant to learners, as it demonstrates how actions are achieved over multiple turns, and how utterances are designed to ‘fit’ with previous turns and how they shape the next turn; difficulties in this domain can prove highly problematic. To explore the pedagogical potential of general- release films, the present study analysed dialogue from 20 popular English-language movies, and reports findings relating to invitation sequences and the overall structuring practices found in phone call openings and closings. The findings reveal systematic and highly recurrent ways in which film dialogues tend to deviate from ordinary speech. These findings are discussed in terms of the conventions of narrative film and key principles of drama
Formal modelling of safety-critical interactive devices using coloured petri nets
Formal modelling is now widely applied for creating models of safety-critical interactive systems. Most approaches built so far either focus on the user interface or on the functional part of a safety-critical interactive system. This paper aims to apply formal methods for modelling and specifying the user interface, interaction and functional aspects of a safety-critical system in a single model using Coloured Petri Nets(CPN). We have used CPNs because of its expressive graphic representation and the ability to simulate the system behaviour. The technique is illustrated through a case study of the NikiT34 Infusion Pump
Students, resources and critical thinking: An EAP perspective
Critical thinking(CT) should probably be developed within any English language course, however, the pressure on pre-sessional and sessional EAP course students to develop their CT ability is arguably more crucial than in many other language learning courses. In the teaching of EAP courses, teachers are encouraged to adopt a number of different approaches. Fairbairn and Winch (2011, p. 36) expand on the SQ3R approach proposed by Beard (1990), which is a planned and scaffolded approach. The other possible approach can be an unplanned ‘critical thinking moment’ (de Chazel, 2014). De Chazel suggests that teaching critical thinking that involves different cognitive processes should be seen as a ‘state of mind’ (de Chazal, 2014, p. 143) It has many challenges, the least of which is making students aware of diverse perspectives. This session starts with an initial short presentation and sharing of techniques and resources successfully used by the presenter to facilitate critical thinking for pre-sessional and sessional tertiary EAP students. It supports a combination of a planned and unplanned approach. Following that, the presenter will invite session attendees to share successful resources and technique they have found useful. The workshop will conclude with a Q and A session
