Enlisting the help of younger brother Brian, Karl embarks on a quest for redemption – through the unconventional method of breaking into his former victim’s homes and replacing earlier stolen household items with goods of equal value
Proposing a Formal Approach for Verification of Heart-Lung Machine
Introduction: error occurrence in computer systems, can lead to irreparable damage, especially those used in medical systems. As a result, verification of such systems is important. Model checking as a method is used to ensure the absence of errors in the model. The heart-lung machine is used in surgeries in which heart must stop working and assumes the heart and lungs duties. In this article, a formal approach is to verify the operation of the heart-lung machine.
Methods: The heart-lung machine has been modeled by using the UPPAAL tool which supports time automatic machine, since, this machine do three sets operations in parallel which has been modeled in three subsystems: system overall performance machine, heparin injection machine and cardioplegia solution delivery machine.
Finding: After modeling by a complete search on state space of model, the most important characteristics of system were verified. Situations were identified which cause entering the system to unsecure states. The reachability of all important states of the system was investigated. Finally, we ensured about system accuracy features and the system operates correctly.
Conclusion: Modelling is a cheap way to study a system and evaluate its reaction to environmental changes before implementation of the system. Considering to importance of heart-lung machine in surgeries, in this research a formal model has been presented to verify the operation of this machine
"Bush Camp"? The Topp Twins and Antipodean Camp
This article extends Nick Perry’s concept of the Antipodean camp – that there is a camp style common to settler popular cultures of Australia and New Zealand – by also considering possible differences between the two cultures and by re-emphasizing the camp’s relation to gay and queer cultures. The Topp Twins, lesbian, anarchist, variety entertainers, are discussed as an act that both extend and challenge Perry’s ideas and the traditional association of camp and gay male culture. The article finishes by considering the degree to which they articulate a particularly New Zealand style, which I refer to as ‘bush camp’
Off-the-shelf Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring Devices Utilised in a Low Activity Detection Service
There is a growing awareness for the need to provide low cost solutions for the care of the elderly and in particular to allow them to keep living independent lives. In parallel to this there has also been significant advances in a number of technical areas including 1) monitoring electricity consumption for the purpose of reducing power costs, 2) non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM), 3) using sensors to determine activities of daily living and 4) cloud computing. The purpose of this work was to demonstrate that it is possible to use a readily available consumer off the shelf electricity monitor to provide a low intrusive activity monitor for older persons. This work uses the Design Science Research Methodology and builds on the results of our previous work that used raw electricity usage data. In this work we are trailing the use of a meter that uses NILM to identify individual appliances in the home. The information on appliance use was analysed by a cloud base program and alerts were sent to the carer when lower than expected activity was detected. Participants both in this work and those reported in the literature have mentioned the annoyance of having multiple sensors in a home, especially if they emit either constant or flashing light. In contrast NILM allows the use of multiple electrical appliances to be monitored without the need for a large number of sensors to be deployed – just one sensor at the meter or fuse board. The confluence of a number of technologies has enabled the creation of a low intrusive and low cost monitoring system to have become a reality. The initial trial of the system has been shown to be a mostly reliable alternative to a system built on multiple sensors. Based on previous work that involved the deployment of multiple sensors, the new system is expected to be more acceptable as it has the desired attribute of becoming invisible to the user

Bogans and Heavy Metal music
Proud bogan Dr Dave Snell gives an insider’s perspective on this once maligned subculture. Hear about a community united by heavy metal, black T-shirts, and mullet haircuts.
Dave discusses his research about bogan identity, community, symbolism, and everyday activities. He addresses burning questions such as:
■ How are bogans distinct in New Zealand culture?
■ Why is it valuable to study bogans?
■ Why has his research received so much media attention
Overexplicit Referent Tracking in L2 English: Strategy, Avoidance, or Myth?
The tendency of intermediate and advanced second language speakers to underuse pronouns and zero anaphora has been characterized as a developmental stage of overexplicitness, yet little consideration has been given to whether learners create sufficient contexts for their use. This study analyzed references across eight degrees of accessibility, revealing that this did not account for infrequent pronoun use by Chinese learners of English. Further analysis revealed that participants were seldom overexplicit when referring to highly accessible individuals, particularly those that represented continued topics, but were significantly more likely than native speakers to use lexical noun phrases elsewhere, particularly for main characters. This is discussed in relation to a possible role of overexplicitness as a clarity-based communication strategy
