    SUPA: Strewn User-Preserved Authentication

    Get PDF
Central storage and management of user credentials or passwords leave a single tempting repository for the attackers. If the credentials are not stored by a system at all, there will be no stored ‘vault’ to allure the attackers. At the same time, there will be no single resource that holds the credentials of all users of a system. This paper presents the high level conceptual architecture of SUPA, an authentication system that would allow a system to authenticate users without having its own repository of users’ secret identification related data. SUPA enables a system to authenticate its users without having their secret credentials stored in it. The proposed authentication system uses the features of asymmetric encryption as part of its authentication process

Professional misconduct: An analysis of disciplinary cases against registered health professionals in New Zealand.

    No full text
This research examines factors contributing to professional misconduct among registered health professionals in New Zealand. It seeks to understand more about the factors contributing to situations where health professionals fail to recognize and manage situations that result in disciplinary action. A multiple case study approach was used to analyze New Zealand Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal (HPDT) cases published between 2012 and 2015. Data were developed from 33 case reports published full text on the HPDT website involving practitioners who had been found guilty of professional misconduct. Findings were developed from the research data both deductively and inductively, creating theoretical interpretations grounded in an iterative process of cross-case synthesis. The findings show three core themes that are present in the analysis of cases, including failure to “benchmark” best practice, inability to moderate behavior, and inability to reflect and learn with colleagues. Key factors contributing to the failure to recognize and manage professional situations indicated a “Perfect Storm” that gathered around professional, personal, and organizational issues. Professional isolation, lack of knowledge and skill, challenging client situations; personal stress, neediness, or “stuckness”; and organizational factors such as high acuity/demand, all contributed to this Perfect Storm. Health practitioners and their colleagues should notice moments when their own or others behavior is inappropriate or unreasonable in the context of a client’s care, particularly responses that are a recurring pattern. Ongoing education about professional issues is an essential requirement for the health workforce as more complex demands and work roles impact on practitioners

In this paper, the author aims to draw on his thesis to discuss extant CSR activities of IOCs in the NDR. The paper presents a compelling insight on the CSR activities of select IOCs in the NDR and how such activities identify in Carroll’s Pyramid of CSR for the purposes of relevance and generalisability. The issue of equitable distribution of oil resources has been very contentious in the NDR within the last couple of decades and its implications can hardly be exaggerated. The paper confirms the salient role of some IOCs in the provision of social welfare packages and the overall development of the region. Furthermore, the paper examines the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMOU) framework, an approach considered as ``best practice’’ model by IOCs in the region. The model combines IOCs’ expertise with local stakeholder intelligence to achieve the desired results. The author presents a summary of the evolution of CSR in the NDR underscoring the significance of localized ``best practice`` approach. The paper concludes by highlighting the limitations of CSR in the sustainable development of the NDR
