New Zealand is a beautiful country which is built on the shores of the sea. It is divided into two islands and people from different continents like Asia, Europe and America come to New Zealand to enjoy scenic locations and the natural beauty of the landscapes. They plan their holidays in different locations of the country and like to wander and check out the places in short span of time. Backpacker accommodation is the best choice of stay, as it is economical and easily accessible. Backpacker Central Hamilton (BCH) is one of them. Making profit is the main motive of every profit-organization. So, every organization has some strategies to be at the top of the game by increasing their revenues and growth of the business. The attempt here in this report is to know about the generic business strategies of the BCH- What strategies they have been using in the past, what they are using now and what they will use in future to elevate their profit and stabilize business growth. This research explains Porter’s generic business strategies, Competitive advantage. It shows the difference between Backpackers and Backpacker Accommodation. Many people have a biased opinion about the Backpacker and in this research, an attempt is made to understand the operational and executional strategies of backpackers mainly BCH. In this project, the data is collected through a structured questionnaire completed by customers as well as employees of BCH. The data is also collected by interviewing the manager at the premises. Three employees filled the employee questionnaire and twenty-six customers filled the questionnaire. The data is thoroughly analysed. The study findings revealed that BCH is using differentiation strategy to beat their competitors and to heighten their profits. The employee survey demonstrates the changes they made to their organizations, these are favourable for the business. The suggestions and recommendations for business success and prosperity are also mentioned at the end of the report by investigating, evaluating and analysing all the data. These suggestions and recommendations can help the business to increase or maintain a stable profit in the market

Evaluation of Software System Implementation in an SME

    Get PDF
Research on software systems implemented into SMEs is sparse due to there not being enough infrastructure around the correct procedures. To change this lack of information, the researcher proposes to conduct a case study on a small business. Using a mixture of interviews and participant observation, the researcher intends to ascertain whether the most effective implementation methodology was used to implement Xero and WFM into the small business. To clarify further, investigation into why it was done this particular way and the ramifications of that choice, will be conducted. The results from the interviews will be analysed in correlation with planning and preparation, implementation and integration of the new system, training, customer expectations and change management. By undertaking this research, clarity will arise regarding the implementation of how Xero and WFM could be improved, whether in the planning and preparation stage, or the implementation stage itself. More successful ways of training SME staff to use the software are expected to emerge as well as understanding the customers’ expectations and delivering to those expectations, and the SME staff being prepared for the change of software by the SME

A Study of Road Accidents Involving International Visitors: Case Study in New Zealand

    Get PDF
This study is to explore the driving behaviour of overseas drivers and to identify the key causes contributing to the road accidents in New Zealand (NZ) related to demographic and socio-economic characteristics of overseas drivers. A revealed preference (RP) survey of 205 overseas drivers is used to investigate whether overseas drivers’ characteristics affect their ranked preference for attributes related to the risk of driving in NZ. The RP survey and rank-ordered logistics regression models identified the importance of various factors in determining the cause of accidents and providing some insight into issues that should be considered in accident reduction policy development. The results indicate that roundabout system brings confusion to Asian drivers, NZ’s mountainous roads considered the most difficult terrain to overseas drivers, and fatigue after a long flight brings a moderate impact on the driver. Therefore, this study suggests that ‘taylored’ driving safety training programmes would be more effective to educate overseas visitors

Improving Response Rates to an Alumni Survey in East Africa

    Get PDF
Feedback from students and graduates is essential to inform ongoing quality improvement in higher education. However, African universities often face implementation issues in alumni surveys, including technological barriers and difficulties in tracking graduates, particularly those from earlier cohorts and rural alumni. Innovative strategies are needed to locate alumni and obtain a good response rate across widely dispersed, rural and remote areas. This paper reports on strategies used to increase response rates in an East African online alumni survey in a context of limited computer/Internet access. The survey aimed to assess the impact of nursing graduates over a 15 year period (2001–2016). Strategies focused on locating and communicating with graduates and providing solutions to barriers associated with computer/Internet access. Better engagement with alumni was achieved using mobile technologies and social media networks. Facilitating access to online surveys by taking technology to alumni or providing hubs for online access encouraged survey participation. The strategies discussed in this study are particularly relevant for clustered or networked alumni populations (e.g. nurses) in low income and limited resource settings

Smell and sound sculpture with Owen Mayall and Demeter Fragrance Library “In this piece the audience is asked to place their head inside the sculpture in order to block the visual sense, and focus on the sense of hearing and smell. This project endeavours to produce an environment where the unique characteristics of scent perception are harnessed to communicate emotions and ideas. Through the combination of sound and smell the stimuli work to create a sense of relaxation and a vague dreamlike experience of unexpected meaning.
