Experimental dataset on Lactuca sativa yield and water use efficiency: simplified soilless vs. soil-based systems in Colombia
This dataset explains a study conducted in Popayán, a city in Cauca region of southern Colombia, aiming a evaluate the effectiveness of a simplified soilless system for growing lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) compared to traditional soil-based cultivation. The purpose of the research came by an increasing pressure on land and water resources intensifies the need for innovative approaches, especially in regions struggling with unpredictable rainfall patterns, limited arable soil, as well as issues related to low-quality water and food scarcity. Simplified soilless cultivation systems (SSC) have emerged as a viable solution for sustainable fresh food production and climate change conditions. The soilless system "Garrafas PET," was built using locally available materials such as bamboo poles and recycled plastic bottles, making it an accessible and cost-effective solution. Different types of growing substrates were tested, including coconut fiber, peat, carbonized rice husk, and a combination of all three (1:1:1).
The adoption of the SSC system significantly enhanced WUE compare than traditional soil cultivation. In particular, peat demonstrated a significant improvement in efficiency of water use followed by rice hulls, either alone or mixed with peat and coconut fiber which also performed well, while coconut fiber alone was less effective but still improved the use of water than soil-based cultivation. Regarding marketable yield, the results varied based on the type of substrate used. The SSC system with peat achieved similar productivity levels to traditional soil cultivation, showing that soilless methods can achieve or even enhance conventional techniques performance. The combination of rice hulls with other materials also resulted in favorable yields, while coconut fiber alone produced the lowest output.
Overall, this research highlights the potential of simplified soilless cultivation as a sustainable farming solution. By reducing water consumption and adapting to different environmental conditions, SSC systems can contribute to more resilient food production in regions facing water shortages, poor soil quality, and unpredictable weather patterns
What are the correlations between depression and suicide?
Epidemiological studies on depression have a rather recent origin; therefore it is rather difficult to refer to ongoing studies over time. Although therefore this area needs to be studied more, it is already possible to trace a draft of the population at risk, as well as to identify the main causal factors. The most important are social and experiential factors but above all one's lifestyle, and therefore, consequently, also the economic conditions. It is also possible to trace some commonalities with suicide and the factors that cause suicide, since very often the victims of suicide suffered from depression during their lifetime
Aspetti dell’orticoltura e dell’agricoltura urbana a Bologna.
Margareth Cavendish Bell in Campo

Dataset containing the results of a web-programmed questionnaire on flavored oils, virtual food pairing, willingness to try and willingness to buy
This data set contains the data related to a research study on flavored oils virtually paired with culinary preparations; in particular, data concerned an exploratory survey on preferences and willingness to try (WTT) and buy (WTB).
This study evaluates consumer preferences for three olive oils flavored with by-products from the supply chains of tomato, orange, and hemp. Willingness to try and buy these oils was assessed using linear regression models that considered various consumer characteristics (e.g., age, level of food neophobia, attitude toward using by-products in food production). Additionally, a virtual food pairing exercise was conducted by asking respondents to match each oil with different culinary preparations, providing insights into pairing preferences and potential directions for real-world sensory analysis.
This research work is developed within the project SENSOIL, a sub-project of OnFoods (“ON Foods - Research and innovation network on food and nutrition Sustainability, Safety and Security - Working ON Foods”), a project funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) - NextGenerationEU
[Narrations of Law and Legal Ethics in Hollywood movie culture] Lawyers have always been a part in Hollywood movies, and this enables us to underline how the public, in certain historical periods, generally consider law and its practitioners. The paper aims at comparing lawyer models and types, that the various jurisprudential theories of legal ethics debate provide, with models of lawyering sponsored by the Hollywood movies, in order to highlight connections and mutual influence and to analyze how legal ethics and jurisprudential discussion may affect, and be affected by, cinematography as a workable mirror of society
Dante in Germania
DANTE IN GERMANY. The article traces the fundamental importance that Dante’s "Divine Comedy" has acquired for German literature, philosophy, and culture since the 15th century. Particular importance is given to the reception of the "Divine Comedy" in the German-language literature of the exile. A prime example of this process is the unique work of Peter Weiss, who has appropriated Dante's "Commedia" like no other and adapted it in various forms. In his "Dante-Projekt", his drama "Die Ermittlung / The Investigation", set in the Frankfurt Auschwitz trials, is of great relevance
