Assessing growing media in simplified hydroponics in Tunisia: an open access dataset

    No full text
The following dataset was used for the publication Cerasola, V.A., Jmayai, A., Viola, F., Jamai, D., Adamo, F., Costea, C., Pennisi, G., Orsini, F., Michelon, N., Setti, M. and Gianquinto, G. (2025). Simplified hydroponics in Tunisia: assessing the charred straw as growing substrate for lettuce cultivation. Acta Hortic. 1422, 29-36. The dataset includes the agronomic variables monitored at the harvest of a lettuce crop cultivated in a simplified hydroponic system, in a validation experiment where two different growing media were tested (commercial perlite versus carbonized wheat straw). The hydroponic system is a closed-loop system, where plastic bottles are used as pot where plants are transplanted. The bottles are joined in lines, and tilted at the slope of 24%, and filled with the substrate. The system integrated a fed-gravity irrigation system, where the nutrient solution is delivered from an upper tank (at 2 m height) to the first bottles of the lines. Thanks to the gravity, the nutrient solution reaches the lower part of the system from where the water is recovered with a drainage system and recirculated again (for a visual representation of the hydroponic system the reader is invited to read the publication Michelon, N. et al. (2020). Strategies for improved yield and water use efficiency of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) through simplified soilless cultivation under semi-arid climate. Agronomy, 10(9), 1379. https://doi.org/10.3390/agronomy10091379). The data coming from the experimentation are reported in the file attached

Experimental data about Effects of Nanoplastics exposure in mature equine spermatozoa

    No full text
The current global plastic pollution of all ecosystems allows the accumulation of micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) in human and animal tissues. These particles have been associated with negative effects on fertility, primarily through inflammation and oxidative stress in reproductive organs. Given the limited research on how MNPs affect gametes, this study aimed to evaluate MNPs internalization and related effects in mature spermatozoa, using frozen-thawed stallion sperm exposed to various concentrations of 30 nm polystyrene nanoplastics (NP). The datasets include flow cytometry data on sperm viability, intracellular reactive oxygen species levels, mitochondrial membrane potential, mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) of H2DCFDA, and mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) of fluorescent nanoplastics (FNP). Additionally, they include kinetic sperm parameters analyzed by computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA). Semen samples were incubated for 3 hours at 38 ºC with or without 30 nm NP at 10, 50, 100 or 200 µg/mL

Work-Hour Instability, Occupational Mobility and Gender

Although more than 20 per cent of the workforce changes their occupation every year, we still do not fully understand the mechanisms behind the observed mobility. This paper focuses on analysing the relationship between work-hour instability and occupational mobility in the US labour market. I use the longitudinal dimension of the Current Population Survey (CPS) to measure individuals' intra-year work-hour variation and analyse their mobility through a balanced occupation panel. Being in the highest quartile of work-hour variation is associated with a higher mobility rate of 0.33% for men and 0.81% for women compared to an average monthly mobility rate of 1.71%. Analysing the predicted marginal effects across different household compositions suggests that the substantial gender gap can be explained by the intra-household specialisation of men and women. The last part of this study shows that only workers with highly volatile work hours sort themselves into more stable occupations

    Promoting zirconia with carbon: dataset

    No full text
The present dataset contains data related to the preparation of a series of novel hybrid catalysts consisting of zirconia supported over a hydrophobic activated carbon support by means of incipient wetness impregnation, and their use as catalysts for the ketonization of diluted aqueous solutions of acetic acid (AA) to acetone (AC). These novel catalysts were thoroughly characterized by means of several characterization techniques, such as XRD, TEM, N2 porosimetry, Raman spectroscopy and XPS, to assess structure-activity relationships. The data includes all the results of the catalytic tests, as well as the raw data of the materials characterization. The performance of the hybrid catalyst achieved in optimized condition was superior to that of benchmark bulk materials (ZrO2 and TiO2) and literature results

Varcando i confini: Giovanni Battista Beria in Engadina

ECLIPSE. WP1 Task 1.1. Breakable Ru complex for enhanced bead-based ECL immunoassay

    No full text
The present dataset continues a previously deposited dataset (https://doi.org/10.6092/unibo/amsacta/8318) as part of the ECLipse project, focusing on the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) behavior of magnetic microbeads functionalized with a stimuli-responsive derivative of [Ru(bpy)3]2+. The reduction-sensitive disulfide bridge, that links the luminophore to the bead, gets cleaved upon reaction with the neutral TPrA radical, releasing the luminophore in solution and activating the homogeneous mechanism. These microbeads were studied under a microscope on glassy carbon (GC) and Pt substrates at different concentrations of TPrA. Further experiments were conducted on bead-based immunoassays for SARS-CoV-2 detection

A tail of labor supply and a tale of monetary policy

We study the interaction between monetary policy and labor supply decisions at the household level. We uncover evidence of heterogeneous responses and a strong counter-cyclicality of hours worked in the left tail of the income distribution following a monetary policy shock in the U.S. Specifically, while aggregate hours and labor earnings decline after a monetary tightening, individuals at the bottom of the income distribution increase their hours worked. Moreover, this positive labor supply response is quantitatively significant, substantially dampening the decline in aggregate hours worked. We show that the empirical patterns are consistent with a standard one-asset HANK model featuring endogenous labor supply. The model reveals that strong income effects at the bottom of the distribution can account for the observed countercyclical labor responses, highlighting how labor supply adjustments act as an additional margin through which households smooth consumption. Comparing this specification to a model with a homogeneous labor supply, we find that labor supply heterogeneity reduces the aggregate MPC and attenuates the transmission of monetary policy through aggregate demand. As a result, the output cost of disinflation is lower in economies where poorer households can flexibly adjust their labor effort, easing the trade-off faced by the central bank
