Techniques for the Integration of Existing Tools
The purpose of this paper is to explain and demonstrate the advantages of tool integration and the reuse of tools. Several techniques for the integration of existing tools are presented and discussed. These techniques include the use of a monitor, simlated incremental operation, syntax padding, view extraction, and output distribution. The advantages of the use of these methods of tool intregation are illustrated by their use in integrating an existing compiler and on-line debugger. Promoting Partnership: Campus and Community Collaboration Through Cultural Events
Hosting community-inclusive cultural events do more than demonstrate a library’s commitment to diversity; they provide opportunities for forging lasting partnerships with campus and community organizations. This article describes an example of grant-sponsored cultural program that attracted over 600 participants to the library, and outlines the benefits of such programs for academic libraries. Node Re-Usability in Structured Hypertext Systems
When the size of a graph-based hyperdocument exceeds a certain limit, the graph structure gets complicated and causes navigation and document management problems. A simple solution for this problem is the structuring ofthe hyperdocument into several smaller units. In this approach each unit contains nodes that share common properties and their link structures. Srnuller. more manageable networks (called webs) which have their own, less complex graph structures are the result. In this paper we propose a model for hypertext systems which allows hyperclocument structuring using webs. The model demonstrates node re-usability which becomes essential as it is verylikely that the smaller units created will share nodes. The implementation details of a hypertext authoring system, HypAS, based on the proposel model is also provided
Tool for Structural Testing of Rule-based System
Traditional software testing techinque are useful in testing some components of the expert systems, such as the interference engine. However, there is a need for the development of a testing method that tests the structure in a rule-based system. This testing method should be computationally effective, provide a reasonable level of coverage of the rule base, and be independent of the inference engine [KIPER92]. In the article Structural testing of Rule-based Expert Systems by Dr. JAmes D. Kiper, the logical path graph (LPG) method was chosen as a practical testing method for an expert system. However, the logical path graph algorithm developed in that paper requires further investigation by application to large rule bases. This need has resulted in the development of a computer tool called Graptool. The Graptool software, that has been created, was based on the logical path algorithm and was written in the C language. This tool reads the CLIPS rule-based expert system as a text file, and constructs a listing that represents the structure of the rule base

Applying an Operational Formal Method to Safety-Critical Systems
Despite thirty years of study by the academic community, industry has not embraced the systematic usage of formal methods. To address this concern, a formal method is proposed which possesses many of the qualities that practitioners have
listed as lacking from current formal methods: inclusion of both a specification and verification model, a tabular notation that only requires knowledge of first-order logic, support for both composition and decomposition, application throughout the
software life-cycle, and tool support. The presentation includes several applications to safety-critical software systems.

An ANOVA-Based GPS Multipath Detection Algorithm Using Multi-Channel Software Receivers
We present a statistical detection test for GPS multipath based on the one-way ANOVA method. Given an antenna array with a GPS software receiver in tracking mode, the signal from each channel is correlated with a reference signal in blocks of one CA code period. When the relative phase delay for the direct GPS signal is stripped off from each channel, the expected values of the correlates is the same for all of the channels only if no multipath is present. A one-way ANOVA test can then used to determine if multipath is present. An analysis of this method is presented which shows that the parameters affecting its detection performance can be grouped into three classes: the array size, the signal AOAs, and the processed multipath SNR. Receiver operating characteristic curves are given as a function of the processed multipath SNR for fixed array sizes. They show that good detection performance can be achieved under most operating conditions with less than 10 CA code periods of data. It is also shown that the detection performance of this method improves as the multipath time delay decreases. This suggests this method could be a useful tool in aiding multipath mitigation techniques whose ability to detect multipath typically degrades as the multipath time delay decreases

A loop conveyor, an automated storage and retrieval system, robots and a lathe station are configured to exemplify a manufacturing process. This software was developed to allow the user to alter, modify and/or expand on the manufacturing process represented, and to conduct simulation studies relative to it. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of tunable indexing on the structure and information retrieval performance of a clustered document database. The generation
of all cluster structures and calculation of term discrimination values is based upon the Cover Coefficient-Based Clustering Methodology. Information retrieval performance is
measured in terms of precision, recall, and e-measure. The relationship between term generality and term discrimination value is quantified using the Pearson Rank Correlation
Coefficient Test. The effect of tunable indexing on index term distribution and on the number of target clusters is examined
