Get PDFGenerAges examines the history and culture of the 20th century that shaped the lives of Americans age 65 and older today, with a special focus on the generations coming of age in the 1920s (centenarians), ‘40s (the Greatest Generation) and ‘60s (Age of Aquarius). The lengthy work is full of statistics and information regarding what was then the technological revolution of the early 20th century as well as the cultural revolution of the 1960s and early 1970s that ushered in a new era of civil rights and women’s liberation and equality.
While this study emphasizes the enormous amount of technological, social and cultural change over the past century, it also stresses a certain commonality found among generations in their quest for peace and prosperity, and that “each will be on the cutting edge of fashion, technology and modern conveniences; and each will recede into history with relative rapidity, appearing amusingly antiquated in the process.
Right Place, Right Time, Right Care: An Evaluation of Ohio's Nursing Home Diversion and Transition Initiative--Research Brief
Get PDFIn 2010 the Ohio General Assembly asked the Ohio Department of Aging to develop and implement a nursing home diversion and transition initiative. This research brief summarizes the results from an evaluation of that initiative. Results showed that 3800 Ohioans were diverted or transitioned durng the project period and the majority were residing in the community six months later
Engaging with Wikipedia via Article Creation
Get PDFThe dichotomy of Wikipedia: many love it, and many others love to hate it. While students may not entirely understand the process behind Wikipedia, they do know that they can get information fast (and generally of high quality). Rather than just discussing Wikipedia quality, students in a three credit-hour digital literacy course were challenged to create Wikipedia articles on topics pertinent to their university. Students engaged in the entire process from Wiki syntax to proper Wikipedia formatting and editorship. After making their articles live, students let them lay for a few weeks (allowing others to edit), and then reflected on the power of peer review, the difficulty of creating an article, and how both of these contribute to the overall quality of the tool.
