[EN] Social media and healthy eating have become two of the most prominent trends in recent decades. This study examines users' behavior on social media regarding healthy eating in terms of motivation, credibility, consumed content, opinions about the information, sources of information, as well as purchasing behaviors. To achieve this objective, three focus groups were conducted, leading to the conclusion that extrinsic motivations outweigh intrinsic ones in the context of healthy eating consumption. It was also observed that attractiveness and expertise are key variables influencing whether young people trust content on social media. Additionally, TikTok and Instagram emerged as the most frequently used and preferred platforms for accessing digital content. These findings have implications for both public administration, in designing campaigns to combat misinformation, and food companies, in positioning themselves in the market or enhancing their public image

[EN] Olive cake was experimented as ingredient for diets in animal feeding. This kind of utilization appeared reasonable in consideration of the fact that, owing to this enrichment, this material contains interesting amounts of olive oil. The aim of this research was to determine the effects of olive cake and vitamin E (200 mg/d ewe) integrated in the diet of ewes on milk yield composition and coagulating properties. Sixty Comisana lactating ewes (days in milk 125±16), were divided into three homogeneous to the milk yield (800±50 g/d ewe): “Control”, “Olive” and “Olive+E”. “Olive” and “Olive+E” groups received a concentrate with 20% of olive cake. Data were processed by GLM-SAS. Ewes of “Olive” and “Olive+E” groups showed an increase of milk yield (P ≤ 0.01). A decrease of milk somatic cells was showed in ewes of “Olive+E”. Milk pH and clotting time decreased in “Olive+E” (P ≤ 0.01). No differences were reported into three groups on body condition score of ewes. The use of 20% olive cake and vitamin E added into the concentrate determined positive effects on milk yield and quality of lactating ewe

Mechanical and microstructural characterization of non-structural precast concrete made with recycled mixed ceramic aggregates from construction and demolition wastes

[EN] The pressure caused by the construction activities has begun to take its toll on the environment. One option to alleviate the negative impacts is to reuse the construction and demolition wastes as recycled aggregate in the manufacture of non-structural concrete. Therefore, this research compares the recycled kerbstones and paving blocks made with a 50% replacement ratio of pre-saturated recycled mixed ceramic aggregates to the conventional non-structural precast concrete elements. Although some decreases in compressive (−25.47%) and flexural strength (−5.77%) were observed, the splitting tensile strength (0.53%), the strong bond exhibited by the ITZ between the recycled aggregates and the cement paste and the relatively low porosity (12.44% with a small volume of pores greater than 2 μm) showed promising results; thus proving the viability of using recycled kerbstones and paving blocks.SIThe authors would like to thanks the companies Prefabricados de Hormigón Pavimentos Páramo S.L. and TEC-REC: Tecnología y Reciclado S.L., who disinterestedly participated in this study

No full text
[EN] This study’s goals were to determine the health status of a group of heart transplant recipients (HTRs) and their level of physical activity and to compare the health status among them and with a group of healthy sedentary individuals. Fifty-four HTRs and eighteen sedentary individuals (S) were assigned to four groups, according to their level of physical activity (determined with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire); patients with a low, moderate, and high level of physical activity (HTRL, HTRM, and HTRH, respectively) and S participants underwent a basic blood analysis and several tests to assess their cardiovascular, neuromuscular, and functional mobility condition and their quality of life. The S and HTRH were very similar in terms of BP, HR, and blood analysis while HTRM and HTRL differed from both S and HTRH in these parameters. Regarding the cardiovascular, neuromuscular, functional mobility, and quality of life variables assessed in this study, HTRH showed the best results across all of them, followed by S, HTRM, and HTRL. It is suggested that the weekly level of physical activity of HTRs should be high, which might help them to enhance their health and quality of life

Novel Methodology to Assess Salt Movement Between Mortar and Stones from Heritage in Spain

No full text
[EN] The development of sustainable cementitious materials is crucial to reduce the environmental footprint of the construction industry. Alkali-activated materials (AAMs) have emerged as promising environmentally friendly alternatives; however, their compatibility with natural stone in heritage structures remains poorly understood, especially regarding salt migration and related damage to stones. This study presents a novel methodology for assessing salt movement in solid materials between two types of stones—Boñar and Silos—and two types of binders: blended Portland cement (BPC) and an AAM. The samples underwent capillarity and immersion tests to evaluate water absorption, salt transport, and efflorescence behavior. The capillarity of the Silos stone was 0.148 kg·m−2·t−0.5, whereas this was 0.0166 kg·m−2·t−0.5 for the Boñar stone, a ninefold difference. Conductivity mapping and XRD analysis revealed that AAM-based mortars exhibit a significantly higher release of salts, primarily sodium sulfate, which may pose a risk to adjacent porous stones. In contrast, BPC showed lower salt mobility and different salt compositions. These findings highlight the importance of evaluating the compatibility between alternative binders and heritage stones. The use of AAMs may pose significant risks due to their tendency to release soluble salts. Although, in the current experiments, no pore damage or mechanical degradation was observed, additional studies are required to confirm this. A thorough understanding of salt transport mechanisms is therefore essential to ensure that sustainable restoration materials do not inadvertently accelerate the deterioration of structures, a process more problematic when the deterioration affects heritage monuments.SIMinistry of Universities, R.D 1059/2021, of November 30, regulating the direct award of various grants to universities participating in the European Commission’s “European Education and Culture Executive Agency, Project 101004049-EURECA-PRO-EAC-A02-2019 /EAC-A02-2019-1 and European Universities Project: 101124439—EURECA-PRO 2.0—ERASMUS-EDU-2023-EUR-UNIV”.
