Palliative Care, Aboriginal Health and Well-Being, and Cultural Capabilities in Speech-Language Pathology
This chapter explores the intersection of Indigenous Australian perspectives and speech pathology practice in palliative care, acknowledging the profound impact of culture upon end-of-life communication and swallowing. Delving into the cultural context, it examines Indigenous Australian values and nuances that shape communication, emphasising the need for culturally responsive assessments and interventions.
The chapter addresses language and communication challenges, highlighting the diversity of Indigenous languages and the implications for effective communication in palliative care settings. Family and community involvement take centre stage, emphasising the pivotal role of support networks and the importance of cultural capabilities within the speech pathology team.
As part of broader advocacy, the chapter supports community education and highlights the importance of Indigenous-led research and collaborations. The conclusion synthesises key Indigenous perspectives, issuing a clear focus for culturally responsive palliative care speech pathology. The chapter highlights the ongoing commitment to education, professional development, and collaboration to ensure a culturally capable workforce and elevate Indigenous voices in healthcare
Interconnections Between Environmental Awareness and Green Technology Adoption: Empirical Evidence from Informal Business Enterprises
Environmental awareness is widely recognized as a key factor of environmentally friendly behavior, especially as human activities persist in exacerbating global environmental issues. While previous research has largely focused on environmental regulations to promote green technology, such approaches often fall short in developing countries due to weak enforcement mechanisms and the prominence of informal economic activities. This study takes a different approach by exploring how environmental awareness can foster the adoption of green technology in informal manufacturing enterprises, thereby enhancing both environmental and social outcomes. Enterprise-level survey data, collected from a major city in a developing country, serves as the basis for this analysis. The survey captures information related to knowledge attitudes and the behavioral practices of owners or managers with respect to the environment, as well as pollution and its management. Utilizing the collected data, and guided by established theoretical frameworks, the study develops an environmental awareness (EA) index. This index is then applied in probit and logit models to estimate its effect on the likelihood of adopting pollution-reducing technologies. The marginal effect analysis reveals that informal SMEs with a higher environmental awareness are 28.5% more likely to adopt green technologies. This probability increases to 30.1% when demographic- and business-related variables are incorporated into the model. Based on empirical findings, this study recommends targeted investments in awareness building initiatives, alongside long-term educational and training programs for enterprise owners and managers to instill environmental values and practices across operations. Given the financial constraints faced by informal enterprises, this study also recommends both public and private sector support to make this transition feasible and sustainable
Drone Imaging and Sensors for Situational Awareness in Hazardous Environments: A Systematic Review
Situation awareness is essential for ensuring safety in hazardous environments, where timely and accurate information is critical for decision-making. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have emerged as valuable tools in enhancing situation awareness by providing real-time data and monitoring capabilities in high-risk areas. This study explores the integration of advanced technologies, focusing on imaging and sensor technologies such as thermal, spectral, and multispectral cameras, deployed in critical zones. By merging these technologies into UAV platforms, responders gain access to essential real-time information while reducing human exposure to hazardous conditions. This study presents case studies and practical applications, highlighting the effectiveness of these technologies in a range of hazardous situations
Success or failure? Managerial ability and firm emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings
This study investigates the impact of managerial ability on the likelihood of firms emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Drawing on a sample of 1,054 U.S. bankrupt firms, we uncover a counterintuitive dynamic: firms led by high-ability managers are significantly less likely to emerge successfully. This finding persists even after controlling for firm characteristics, governance mechanisms, macroeconomic conditions, regulatory events, and emergence characteristics. Further analyses indicate that the CEO's expertise is crucial in increasing the likelihood of firm emergence, rather than managerial ability alone. We also find that firms retaining incumbent managers with low but ostensibly “non-replaceable” ability consistently fail to restructure effectively. In contrast, introducing new managers with early replacement can mitigate the likelihood of the firm emerging from bankruptcy. Overall, our results highlight the complex and context-dependent influence of managerial ability during financial distress, revealing the success and failure of bankrupt firms in the bankruptcy Chapter 11 recovery process
Environmental Law Codification in China: Toward a Coherent Legal Framework for Ecological Civilization
Abstract Over recent decades, China’s environmental law system has undergone significant development. However, persistent structural deficiencies in the legislative model continue to undermine the coherence and effectiveness of this framework. The lack of a unified legislative structure has resulted in a fragmented, duplica-tive, and reactive environmental legal system, where incremental amendments fall short of addressing systemic shortcomings. A comprehensive restructuring is essen-tial to enhance environmental legislative quality, ensure enforceability, and align with China’s commitment to ecological civilization and high-quality green devel-opment. Developing an Environmental Code in China presents a transformative opportunity to consolidate disparate provisions, eliminate contradictions, and estab-lish a robust, integrated legal foundation for sustainable environmental governance. This chapter looks into the background, major theoretical debates, challenges, and proposed solutions concerning China’s environmental law codification process
Type 2 Diabetes and Lifestyle Discussions With Practice Nurses in Primary Health Care: A Scoping Review of Patient Experiences
Aim: The aim of this study is to explore the global perceptions of people with type 2 diabetes regarding lifestyle communication in practice nurse consultations within primary health care settings. Design: A scoping review of the peer-reviewed published literature was conducted to identify and examine the characteristics of the experiences of people living with type 2 diabetes during a practice nurse consultation, where lifestyle management is discussed. The PRISMA-ScR checklist guided the review, and CASP guidelines were used to appraise the quality of the included studies. Methods: CINAHL, Medline, PsycINFO and Scopus were searched for papers published between January 2010 and May 2025. Studies were included if they described primary research regarding lifestyle discussion experiences that people living with type 2 diabetes have with practice nurses in the primary care setting. Results: From the 409 papers identified, 10 met the inclusion criteria. Key themes included the importance of unrushed consultations, the supportive yet sometimes unclear role of practice nurses, challenges in managing diabetes, the need for personalised lifestyle advice, clear explanations of health markers and varied motivations for lifestyle changes.
Conclusion: While practice nurses are trusted and valued, significant gaps exist in meeting the needs of people with type 2 diabetes. Comprehensive lifestyle management discussions, detailed dietary information and clear explanations of diabetic-specific serology are lacking. Enhancing training, increasing consultation time, involving family members and exploring eHealth solutions are crucial. Further research on brief behaviour change interventions is needed to support informed decisions and improve care quality

Incorporating the Right to a Healthy Environment (RTHE) into China's Eco-Environmental Code: International Experience, National Context, and Legislative Recommendations
The right to a healthy environment (RTHE) has emerged as a foundational principle in international human rights and environmental law, recognized by over 85% of UN Member States. Although China has yet to formally adopt RTHE in its constitutional or statutory framework, significant progress has been made through its “Ecological Civilization” agenda and evolving environmental legislation. This chapter examines the global development of RTHE, including its substantive and procedural dimensions, and analyzes comparative constitutional, regional, and treaty-based practices. It then critically assesses the current status of environmental rights in China—across constitutional, legislative, and policy levels—and explores theoretical debates surrounding their nature and scope. Drawing on international experience and China’s legal context, this chapter proposes a hybrid model for incorporating RTHE into China’s proposed Eco-environmental Code. It advocates for a unified, multi-layered legislative approach to strengthen environmental rights protection while aligning with China’s developmental and governance priorities
