Sierra Leone aquaculture assessment with special emphasis on Tonkolili and Bombali districts
This assessment set out to investigate why fish farming has spread in Tonkolili District yet been poorly adopted in neighboring Bombali District. The purpose was to analyze what was working in Tonkolili but not in Bombali and then extrapolate this beyond Tonkolili. The current study aims to consolidate the most recent FAO study and map out pond distribution in Tonkolili, the most popular aquaculture development district in Sierra Leone, while also trying to make sense of this distribution. It also tries to update existing GIS models for aquaculture site suitability, particularly Tonkolili, with a view to identifying the opportunities and challenges of developing aquaculture in the country
Effects of probiotic (Pediococcus acidilactici) on growth and survival of kutum (Rutilus kutum) fingerlings
In the present study effects of different levels of probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici, on growth performance and survival rate of Rutilus kutum fingerlings were investigated. Kutum fingerlings with a mean weight of 1±0.235 g were reared for 8 weeks in 500-l fiberglass tanks (15 fish per tank) with 4 diet treatments (3 replicates for each). Treatments included 1×10^9, 2:1×10^9, 3×10^9 CFU kg^-1 dry food and a control without probiotic. At the end of the study, specific growth rate (SGR) and survival rate (SR) were significantly higher in treatments supplemented with probiotic compared to the control (p<0.05), while the fish fed with probiotics showed lowest food conversion ratio (FCR) (p<0.05). The results indicated that the use of 3× 109 CFU kg^-1 dry food probiotics improved growth parameters and survival rate in R. kutum fingerlings

An investigation of escapement status of aquatic animals from different parts of trawl nets by pockets in the coastal waters of Chabahar
The trawl fishing is used in the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman to catch different kinds of aquatic animals by small and large trawler. One of the most important subjects is the rate and process of aquatic escapement during fishing and standardization of the nets. This research was designed to investigate fish escapement from different parts of the trawl. Sampling was carried out with four small pockets attached in different parts of the net. After six hauling operations, aquatic animals from all of the pockets were identified and measuring. Compare between pockets showed that T. lepturus with mean length of 72.5 cm had the highest value and S. insidiator with 5.2 cm length had the lowest one. In addition, S. tumbil with mean weight of 226 g had highest level while P. semisulcatus with the value of 1.7 g had lowest mean weight. Study of pockets showed highest escapements (64.52%) which was happened in the pocket close to cod end. Comparison between four pockets showed significant difference on amounts of aquatic escapement and the most escapements happened in the pockets close to cod end
Effect of black cumin oil (Nigella sativa) on the growth performance, body composition and fatty acid profile of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)
In this study, rainbow trout were fed for a total of 144 days with different feed mixes containing 0.00%, 0.10%, 0.40%, 0.70%, 1.00% and 1.30% black cumin oil. The effect of black cumin oil on growth performance, feed content and fatty acid composition of rainbow trout was researched. The starting weight of fish in the experimental group was approximately 60 g, which increased to 215.21±4.12g, 217.32±3.14g, 235.12±2.9g, 240.21±6.5g, 260.14±4.7g, and 258.89±1.6g, respectively and the differences in growth between the groups were observed to be statistically significant (p<0.05). Black cumin oil decreased the feed conversion rate of the fish. The addition of black cumin oil in the fish feed increased feed consumption and the daily feed consumed per fish for each group was as follows: 0.93g, 0.93g, 0.97g, 1.00g, 1.02g and 1.02g, respectively. At the end of the experiment the economic conversion rates of the fish ($ Kg-1) were between 1.58 and 1.67, while the economic benefit index was between 0.60 and 0.72. The study showed that protein efficiency rates and specific growth rates of the experimental groups had increased. The addition of black cumin oil to the feed increased the proportions of raw protein, oil and raw cinder in the trout and decreased the proportion of moisture, while also increasing the amounts of linoleic, oleic and stearic acids. In conclusion, and the addition of 1.00% black cumin oil in feeds increases growth performance in fish and decreases production costs
Genetic analysis of sand whiting Sillago sihama from north Persian Gulf based on cytochrome oxidase C subunit I sequences
Silaginidae family fish from Perciforms, are appropriate candidates for shallow water and coastal aquaculture. At least three species of this family represents in the Persian Gulf. Genetic analysis of Sand whiting Sillago sihama , the most common species of family performed using COI gene. During the present study 10 samples were collected from Bushehr and Hormozgan provinces coastal waters. DNA extracted by modified CTAB method. Polymerase chain reactions were performed using universal primers - FISHF1 and FISHR1-. Sequencing results showed a 627 bp amplified fragment. Performing BLAST supported high identity to Sillago sihama species; hence morphometric identification confirms molecular barcoding. Genetic distance of 0.02 was calculated between samples of two areas based on Kimura 2- parameter using Mega software. Constructed phylogenetic tree using neighbor joining method whereas the Acanthopagrus latus sequences was used as an outgroup revealed no differentiation between two stations samples. In conclusion based on the results of the present study, the gene flow was high among studied samples and no significant differentiation was observed between Bushehr and Hormozgan samples. In conclusion no discrete populations differentiated based on the results of the present study

Le sous-secteur de la pêche continentale est une composante essentielle de l’activité halieutique et revêt une importance capitale pour l’économie des régions continentales (Source importante de protéine et de revenues). La Pêche continentale est pratiquée aussi bien au niveau des principaux fleuves qu’au niveau des mares et autres plans d’eau aménagés. Elle est une activité artisanale qui cherche à s’améliorer de jour en jour avec l’aide de l’Etat à travers des aménagements d’infrastructure et autres donations et subvention d’équipements.
La Production de la continentale varie d’une région à une autre du fait de la configuration hydrographique, des écosystèmes et du professionnalisme des acteurs
