Impact of coupled input data source-resolution and aggregation on contributions of high-yielding traits to simulated wheat yield
Surgical outcome of the borderline hypoplastic left ventricle: impact of the left ventricle rehabilitation strategy.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the surgical outcome of borderline hypoplastic left ventricle before and after the induction of the left ventricle rehabilitation strategy.
METHODS: A retrospective review investigated patients with borderline hypoplastic left ventricle who underwent surgical intervention between 2012 and 2022. The patient cohort was stratified into two groups based on the initiation of left ventricle rehabilitation: an early-era group (E group, 2012-2017) and a late-era group (L group, 2018-2022). Left ventricle rehabilitation was defined as palliation combined with other procedures aimed at promoting left ventricular growth such as restriction of atrial septal defect, relief of inflow/outflow obstructive lesions, and resection of endocardial fibroelastosis.
RESULTS: A total of 58 patients were included. Primary diagnosis included 12 hypoplastic left heart syndromes, 11 critical aortic valve stenosis, and others. A total of 9 patients underwent left ventricle rehabilitation, 8 of whom underwent restriction of atrial septal defect. As for clinical outcomes, 9 of 23 patients achieved biventricular repair in the E group, whereas in the L group, 27 of 35 patients achieved biventricular repair (39% vs. 77%, p = 0.004). Mortality did not differ statistically between the two groups (log-rank test p = 0.182). As for the changes after left ventricle rehabilitation, left ventricular growth was observed in 8 of 9 patients. The left ventricular end-diastolic volume index (from 11.4 to 30.1 ml/m2, p = 0.017) and left ventricular apex-to-right ventricular apex ratio (from 86 to 106 %, p = 0.014) significantly increased after left ventricle rehabilitation.
CONCLUSIONS: The introduction of the left ventricle rehabilitation strategy resulted in an increased proportion of patients achieving biventricular repair without a concomitant increase in mortality. Left ventricle rehabilitation was associated with enhanced left ventricular growth and the formation of a well-defined left ventricle apex. Our study underscores the significance of left ventricle rehabilitation strategies facilitating successful biventricular repair. The data suggest establishing restrictive atrial communication may be a key factor in promoting left ventricular growth

Energy-Efficient Molecular Dynamics Simulations: Implementing Hardware-Agnostic Energy Measurement and Evaluating Runtime-Energy Tradeoffs
The cost of energy is a substantial part of the overall costs of simulations in high-performance computing (HPC). Reducing energy consumption leads to reduced costs and correlates to lower greenhouse emissions. With climate change and increasing costs for energy as pressing problems right now, many HPC centers and companies strongly emphasize reducing energy consumption. Those energy optimizations are carried out at different levels, like switching to a sustainable energy source for computing and minimizing heat loss. This study focuses on node-level energy optimization by selecting the most energy-efficient algorithm. Achieving this requires integrating a portable energy measurement method into the molecular dynamics simulation framework. Therefore, we introduce the software library ”PMT: Power measurement toolkit” and how it can be used in the node-level auto-tuned particle simulation library AutoPas to ensure an accurate way of measuring energy consumption on different hardware platforms. Additionally, we will show that in most cases, a reduced runtime comes hand in hand with a reduction in energy consumption. Finally, we present new energy metrics that can be used to compare performance across different hardware and highlight a case study between AMD and INTEL-based clusters
RNF43-Mutationen sind treibende Mechanismen der Pankreaspathologie und potenzielle Ziele für die T-Zell-Therapie
The aim of this study is to determine the contribution of RNF43 mutations to pancreatic cancer development and their potential as therapeutic targets using in vitro and in vivo models. Loss of RNF43 function enhanced the tumorigenic potential of pancreatic cancer cells, supporting a tumor suppressor function for RNF43 in the pancreas. Mutations in RNF43 led to ADM lesions under inflammatory conditions and represent an interesting target for immunotherapy.Ziel dieser Studie ist, den Beitrag von RNF43-Mutationen zur Entwicklung von Pankreaskrebs und ihr Potenzial als therapeutische Ziele anhand von In-vitro- und In-vivo-Modellen zu bestimmen. Der Verlust von RNF43 verstärkte das tumorigene Potenzial von Pankreaskrebszellen, was für eine Tumorsuppressorfunktion von RNF43 im Pankreas spricht. Mutationen in RNF43 führten zu ADM-Läsionen unter entzündlichen Bedingungen und stellen ein interessantes Ziel für die Immuntherapie dar
Osnabrücker Steinwerke
Als „Steinwerke“ werden in der westfälischen Stadt Osnabrück bruchsteinerne Hinterhäuser bezeichnet, die als älteste Teile der städtischen Wohnbauten bis ins 13. Jh. zurückreichen und Spiegel der Bau- und Wohnkultur der hochmittelalterlichen Stadt sind. Die Hinterhäuser bildeten zusammen mit einem, der Straße zugewandten niederdeutschen Dielenhaus einen zweiteiligen Hauskomplex. Singulär im deutschen Profanbau wurden die Osnabrücker Steinwerke im Dachgeschoss mit einem steinernen Tonnengewölbe überdeckt, wodurch eine vollständig geschlossene, feuersichere Hülle entstand.In the Westphalian city of Osnabrück, “Steinwerke” refers to quarry stone rear houses, which are the oldest parts of the city’s residential buildings and date back to the 13th century, reflecting the building and residential culture of the high medieval city. The back houses formed a two-part house complex together with a North German “Dielenhaus” (a house with a high ground floor hall) facing the street. The Osnabrück “Steinwerke” were, singularly in German secular architecture, covered in the attic with al stone barrel vault, creating a completely closed, fireproof shell

The first essay analyzes buyout value creation and PE investor behavior in economic cycles. The second essay examines persistence in value creation components and how persistent effects relate to each other.
