Light-scattering Studies on Gum Catechu in Aqueous and Hydrochloric Acid Solutions
The molecular weight of the catochuic said hes been observed to he 4.8 X 106 after taking into account all necessary corrections. The molecular length is about 327 mµ in aqueous solution, varying to 196 mµ. in 0.06N-HCI. The gradual decreese in length of the molecules in higher concentrations of HCI has been ascribed to the suppression of the acidic dissociation in presume of similarly charged ions
