A novel way to use cross-validation to measure connectivity by machine learning allows epilepsy surgery outcome prediction
The rate of success of epilepsy surgery, ensuring seizure-freedom, is limited by the lack of epileptogenicity biomarkers. Previous evidence supports the critical role of functional connectivity during seizure generation to characterize the epileptogenic network (EN). However, EN dynamics is highly variable across patients, hindering the development of diagnostic biomarkers. Without relying on specific connectivity variables, we focused on a general hypothesis that the EN undergoes the greatest magnitude of connectivity change during seizure generation, compared to other brain networks. To test this hypothesis, we developed a novel method for quantifying connectivity change between network states and applied it to identify surgical resection areas.
A network state was represented by random snapshots of connectivity within a defined time interval of an intracranial EEG recording. A binary classifier was applied to classify two network states. The classifier generalization performance estimated by cross-validation was employed as a continuous measure of connectivity change. The algorithm generated a network by iteratively adding nodes until the connectivity change magnitude decreased. The resulting network was compared to the surgical resection, and the overlap score was used to predict post-surgical outcomes. The framework was evaluated in a consecutive cohort of 21 patients with a post-surgical follow-up of minimum 3 years.
The best overlap between connectivity change networks and resections was obtained at the transition from pre-seizure to seizure (surgical outcome prediction ROC-AUC=90.3 %). However, all patients except one were correctly classified when considering the most informative time intervals. Time intervals proportional to seizure length were more informative than the almost universally used fixed intervals.
This study demonstrates that connectivity can be successfully classified with a machine learning analysis and provide information for distinguishing a separate epileptogenic functional network. In summary, the connectivity change analysis could accurately identify epileptogenic networks validated by surgery outcome classification. Connectivity change magnitude at seizure transition could potentially serve as an EN biomarker. Design of urban transit services using autonomous modular buses
This paper presents a deterministic analytical framework for modelling the operation of urban bus lines using autonomous modular buses (AMBs). These AMBs consist of modular pods that can couple and uncouple from each other and allow passengers to transfer between them while they are in motion. We present a strategy where AMBs do not make stops along their route. Instead, individual pods pick up passengers from a stop and connect to the AMB, while others detach to facilitate alighting at the next stop. Sensitivity analyses are conducted to compare cost savings and performance metrics with regard to conventional bus operation, identifying favourable conditions for potential implementation, and forecasting a significant reduction in user travel times. This novel transit service can yield up to nearly 20% in operator costs and user travel time, making it a potentially optimal choice under conditions of high demand and long user trip distance.The elaboration of this paper was made under the AMBERES project, PID2020-118641RB-I00, and also supported by the project RED2024-154236-E, both funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, MCIN/EI/10.13039/501100011033. El paisaje urbano histórico de Santiago de Cali, estrategias de recuperación y criterios de intervención
Aquest treball pretén, a partir de l'estudi del centre històric de Cali, fer una proposta per millorar integralment els edificis que conformen el seu entorn urbà. El centre fundacional de
Santiago de Cali presenta un deteriorament cultural i físic a causa del mal maneig de les polítiques públiques a més de l'estructuració deficient de l'ús del sòl que incentiva el
desplaçament de l'habitatge, generant com a conseqüència l'abandó progressiu dels habitants tradicionals i incrementant el dèficit de densitat poblacional. S'aconsegueix percebre que aquesta es veu agreujada per una ocupació dispersa, amb condicions d'habitabilitat pobres, expressades en territoris subutilitzats, espai públic amb manca d'apropiació i també, una manca d'interès pel patrimoni que influeix directament en el seu abandonament i deteriorament.
La metodologia abasta diferents estudis com: espacial, social, cultural, històric, econòmic i ambiental, aquests permeten analitzar les influències que al llarg del temps van tenir
en la qualitat de l'arquitectura del centre històric. A través d'un enfocament holístic, es té com a finalitat la interconnexió entre les façanes i el seu entorn, emfatitzant la importància de la seva preservació per mantenir l'essència històrica i estètica que pugui ser replicable sobre tot el sector.
Aquest estudi aborda l'anàlisi de les façanes des d'una perspectiva integral, considerant no només la composició individual, sinó la integració en conjunts arquitectònics coneguts com a fronts tradicionals.El presente trabajo pretende, a partir del estudio del centro histórico de Cali, realizar una propuesta para mejoramiento integral de los edificios que conforman su entorno urbano. centro fundacional de Santiago de Cali presenta un deterioro cultural y físico debido al mal manejo de las políticas públicas además de la estructuración deficiente del uso del suelo que incentiva el desplazamiento de la vivienda, generando como consecuencia el abandono progresivo de los habitantes tradicionales e incrementando el déficit de densidad poblacional.
Se logra percibir que esta se ve agravada por una ocupación dispersa, con pobres condiciones de habitabilidad, expresadas en territorios subutilizados, espacio público con falta de
apropiación y también, una falta de interés por el patrimonio que influye directamente en su abandono y deterioro.
La metodología abarca diferentes estudios como: lo espacial, social, cultural, histórico, económico y ambiental, estos permiten analizar las influencias que a lo largo del tiempo
tuvieron en la calidad de la arquitectura del centro histórico. A través de un enfoque holístico, se tiene como finalidad, la interconexión entre las fachadas y su entorno, enfatizando la importancia de su preservación para mantener la esencia histórica y estética que pueda ser replicable sobre todo el sector.

arquitectónicos conocidos como frentes tradicionales.The present work aims, based on the study of the historic center of Cali, to make a proposal for the comprehensive improvement of the buildings that make up its urban
environment. The founding center of Santiago de Cali presents a cultural and physical deterioration due to the poor management of public policies in addition to the deficient
structuring of land use that encourages the displacement of housing, generating as a consequence the progressive abandonment of traditional inhabitants and increasing the deficit
of population density. It is possible to perceive that this is aggravated by a dispersed occupation, with poor living conditions, expressed in underused territories, public space with a
lack of appropriation and also, a lack of interest in heritage that directly influences its abandonment and deterioration.
The methodology covers different studies such as: spatial, social, cultural, historical, economic and environmental, these allow to analyze the influences that over time had on the
quality of the architecture of the historic center. Through a holistic approach, the aim is to interconnect the facades and their surroundings, emphasizing the importance of their
preservation to maintain the historical and aesthetic essence that can be replicated throughout the sector.
This study addresses the analysis of the facades from a comprehensive perspective, considering not only their individual composition, but also their integration into architectural
ensembles known as traditional fronts
Integration of the FastIC front-end electronics into the Picosec MicroMegas detector
The Picosec MicroMegas collaboration aims to develop gaseous fast-timing detectors; experimentally, intrinsic time resolutions from around 50 ps to better than 20 ps are obtained, depending on the exact detector configuration. Parts of developments focus on exploring various options of fast-timing multi-channel front-end electronics, to meet the data processing demands of experimental applications. One option is the FastIC, which was developed for reading out positive and negative input polarity sensors with intrinsic amplification. In this paper, the first results from reading out the gaseous Picosec MicroMegas detector with the FastIC are presented. In laboratory studies, a basic description of the data processing chain was performed using a function generator. The results from test beam measurements are used to characterise the timing performance and the charge processing of the combination of FastIC and Picosec MicroMegas, as well as to demonstrate the possibility of a multi-channel detector readout. Although the timing-at-threshold level of the FastIC introduces a time walk of around 1.5 ns, time resolutions of around 50 ps have been achieved.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Agentic AI applied to Support Agent Assistants
En los últimos años, el rápido avance de la inteligencia artificial (IA) y el procesamiento del lenguaje natural (PLN) ha propiciado la aparición de chatbots y asistentes digitales en diversos sectores. Además, un área que se ha beneficiado especialmente de estas innovaciones es customer success, un enfoque estratégico centrado en ayudar a los clientes a lograr los resultados deseados al utilizar un producto o servicio. Sin embargo, esta estrategia es compleja, ya que los agentes de soporte van más allá del soporte tradicional al interactuar proactivamente con los usuarios, anticiparse a sus necesidades e impulsar la satisfacción y la retención a largo plazo. Por lo tanto, para facilitar la asistencia de los agentes de soporte, esta tesis aplica la vanguardia de la IA. La IA agéntica o Agentic AI en inglés se refiere a sistemas de inteligencia artificial diseñados con un comportamiento autónomo y orientado a objetivos, lo que les permite percibir, razonar, decidir y actuar en entornos dinámicos. Así mismo, a diferencia de los modelos tradicionales que procesan las entradas pasivamente, los sistemas de IA agéntica operan con cierto grado de independencia, resolviendo problemas complejos de toma de decisiones, interactuando con otros agentes y adaptando sus estrategias en tiempo real. El objetivo de esta tesis es diseñar y desarrollar un sistema inteligente que orquesta agentes más pequeños y con tareas específicas para lograr el objetivo establecido. El objetivo de este sistema es facilitar la vida diaria de los agentes de customer support, proporcionando respuestas automatizadas, relevantes y contextualizadas, mejorando la eficiencia operativa, reduciendo la carga de trabajo y ofreciendo un servicio más rápido y eficaz a los clientes. La tesis se desarrolló bajo la supervisión de la empresa Entrust, donde realizo prácticas en colaboración con la Facultad de Informática de Barcelona. La empresa cuenta con varios productos que requieren asistencia, proporcionada por el departamento de customer success. Finalmente, con este proyecto, buscamos demostrar el valor de la IA para ayudar a los clientes y a los agentes de soporte mediante un chatbot empresarial.In recent years, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP) has led to the emergence of chatbots and digital assistants in various sectors. Moreover, one area that has particularly benefited from these innovations is customer success, a strategic approach focused on helping customers achieve their desired outcomes while using a product or service. However, this strategy is complex in ways that support agents go beyond traditional support by proactively engaging users, anticipating their needs, and driving long-term satisfaction and retention. Therefore, To assist support agent assistance, this thesis applies the leading-edge of AI. Agentic AI refers to artificial intelligence systems designed with autonomous, goal-directed behavior, enabling them to perceive, reason, decide, and act in dynamic environments. Unlike traditional models that passively process inputs, Agentic AI systems operate with a degree of independence, by solving complex decision-making problems, interacting with other agents and adapting their strategies in real time responses. The objective of this thesis is to design and develop an intelligent system that orchestrates smaller task-specific agents to achieve the goal set. The purpose of this system is to assist on the daily life of customer support agents by providing automated, relevant and contextualized responses improving the operational efficiency, reducing the workload and offering a faster and better service to the clients. The thesis has been developed under the supervision of Entrust company, where I find myself in my internship in collaboration with Facultat Informàtica de Barcelona. The company has several product that needs assistant which is proportionate by the customer success department. Finally, with this project, we aim to demonstrate value in AI to assist customers and support agents as a company chatbot
