Splendor solis : tratado de Alquimia : Preservation Lab Treatment Report

    No full text
This is a modern high-quality facsimile of the title Splendor Solis: Tratado de Alquimia. This volume features highly decorative illustrations of alchemical symbolism throughout. It is a full leather binding with gold tooling decoration on the boards. The text block is composed of gatherings sewn through the fold. The edges of the text block are decorated with gold. The volume is housed in a decorative clamshell enclosure without a drop-spine. The enclosure is covered in a poor quality laminated with foam which gives it a cushioned quality. The enclosure mimics the look of a book with similar decoration on the front and back to the actual volume. It has false-raised bands along the spine, as well as the title stamped in gold. The enclosure opens at the upper cover, pivoting along the outer joint, and features a metal clasp similar to a jewelry box clasp. On the inside of the enclosure, a yellow ribbon is inserted into the lower board pastedown to aid in removing the book from the enclosure. The curator brought this volume to the Preservation Lab for three high quality surrogates of three selected plates for an upcoming exhibition: pages 9, 17 and the plate adjacent to p.22. No treatment was requested at this time. The volume and its accompanying enclosure is housed in a corrugated clamshell made by the Lab. The volume has been previously housed in a polyester film jacket.https://search.libraries.uc.edu/permalink/01OHIOLINK_UC/1q0qqq4/alma99102490132970851
