    No full text
Full sheep skin leather binding with the text block sewn on two recessed cords. The binding is in poor condition with the leather suffering from red rot. The leather is delaminating along the edges of the boards. In addition, the bottom cord is broken, causing the upper board to be almost detached. The head cap is damaged with some loss of leather with the end band exposed. The text block is in good condition with the primary support suffering from foxing. This volume came to the Lab for housing only.View Catalog Record: http://uclid.uc.edu/record=b357929

Photographische Einzelaufnahmen antiker Sculpturen nach Auswahl und mit Text von Paul Arndt [Series 2] : Preservation Lab Treatment Report

This is a large collection of German silver gelatin photographs of ancient sculptures in a multi‐part series. Each series roughly consists of 300 photographs. The photographs are numerically labeled during the exposure process. These images are important because they may document sculptures that were destroyed during WWII and no longer exist. This is the second series from a collection of 16 series. The first two series have been rehoused into cloth covered clamshells while the rest of the series are stored in a temporary enclosure. Series 3‐16 are held together between acidic book boards with brown cloth tapes threaded throughout. An original title page, likely from a prior housing that is lost, is pasted to the upper temporary book board.View Catalog Record: http://uclid.uc.edu/record=b158325

Summa Theologica [Volume 3] : Preservation Lab Treatment Report

This is volume three of a four volume set of incunabula from the Archives and Rare Books Library. The binding is a Gothic binding with wooden boards. This volume, as well as volume four, has suffered some sort of deterioration of the alum tawed skin in certain areas. The deterioration has changed the texture of the skin on most of the binding; making it feel more like a split skin or a suede. Also, as a result, there is a greater lack of definition of the design detail in these areas. This volume most closely resembles volume four from the collection. The binding also has two catch plate clasps. The upper and lower covers have embossed decoration in floral motifs, which match that of volume four. The text block appears to be sewn on three supports, likely split thongs judging by the spine and the other volumes in this collection. There are decorative endbands which likely have either rolled alum tawed skin or parchment cores, based on the other volumes in the set. The text block consists of a light beige laid paper and black printing ink with red manuscript ink accents. No treatment will be carried out at this time. The volumes came to the Lab for photographic documentation in the form of Reflectance Transformation Image. The volume could benefit from stabilization of the endcaps, especially the headcap, and consolidation of the lower board where it has suffered damage along the top edge.View Catalog Record: http://uclid.uc.edu/record=b152680

This is a limp vellum binding. Sewn on four recessed cord with v‐notches for sewing stations. Endbands are sewn on two alum tawed supports with pink (?) and yellow or white (?) thread. The back of the limp vellum cover contains handwritten black ink inscriptions. Overall, the binding is in fair condition but is in need of an enclosure and minor treatment to prevent pages from becoming lost, and to repair a paper loss in the back of the textblock.View Catalog Record: http://uclid.uc.edu/record=b158137

This is a collection of elevent prints that belongs to the Classics Library. There are two sizes of prints; size smaller prints measuring 33.5 cm wide by 54.7 cm tall, and five larger prints measuring 53.8 cm wide by 59 cm tall. All the prints are folded. The smaller prints are folded in half, horizontally, while the larger prints are folded twice, first horizontally and then vertically. The prints are housed in a stiff board porfolio with ties on the fore edge. The porfolio does not appear to be original to the prints as the original cover has been trimmed down and adhered to the front of the portfolio. The prints arrived to the Lab in overall fair condition. Without appropriate treatment and rehousing, outside of the accompanying portfolio, the condition of the prints will likely worsen with use.View Catalog Record: http://uclid.uc.edu/record=b151270
