Au travers, principalement, de l’étude d’une nouvelle de Sam Apple publiée en 2015 et d’un roman graphique publié par Anya Ulinich en 2014, on s’intéressera à la façon dont les successeurs et disciples de l’auteur s’emploient à le mettre en scène et à le réinventer dans leur fiction, suivant un processus qui tient tout à la fois de l’hommage respectueux et de l’irrévérence parodique. La démarche, par-delà toute anxiété de l’influence, procède d’une réflexion ironique sur les rapports entre fiction et métafiction ainsi que sur les ambiguïtés et les paradoxes inhérents à toute représentation de soi-même et d’autrui.
[This essay is about the Rothian legacy . Through, mainly, the study of a short story by Sam Apple published in 2015 and a graphic novel published by Anya Ulinich in 2014, we will be interested in the way in which the successors and disciples of the author are employ to stage it and reinvent it in their fiction, following a process that is both respectful homage and parodic irreverence. The approach, beyond any anxiety of influence, proceeds from an ironic reflection on the relationship between fiction and metafiction as well as on the ambiguities and paradoxes inherent in any representation of oneself and others.

Get PDF“Hope, Hunger, and Spiritual Liberation in Joyce’s Dubliners” challenges the consensus that Dubliners is best understood as an expression of paralysis or hopelessness. Seen through Ernst Bloch’s critical theory, hope emerges as a forward-looking process in Joyce’s stories, one wary of apotheosis and tied to historical conditions such as hunger. What emerges is a new way of regarding the political operation of Joyce’s texts as adaptive, anticipatory, and unfolding. While Joyce never underestimates the material and political resistances to hope posed by the poverty and hunger that his characters suffer under colonialism and capitalism—indeed, his texts invite readers to scrutinize these conditions—this essay shows that Dubliners, while not directed toward a specific political goal, is fundamentally open to what Bloch calls “real possibility,” or to social and political futures that are possible given prevailing and maturing material conditions but which cannot necessarily be named or known in advance

No full textThe Carnegie Commission on Educational Television published a 1967 report with recommendations that became the foundation for American Public Television policy. Commission researchers visited ninety-two existing educational television stations and seven systems of public television abroad to inform the document. The Commissioners attempted to create an entertaining and educational alternative to commercial broadcasting in the United States in a moment of legislative opportunity during President Johnson’s Great Society program. This essay explores the process of creating that system, simultaneously reliant on and distant from comparative media research. This tension may stem from a kind of American exceptionalism that has arguably haunted public television since its inception. Through textual analyses of archival material, as well as the Carnegie Commission report on educational television, the article traces lost lessons from public television systems abroad, as well as ambivalent rhetoric concerning diversity
On the Equivalence Between Weak BMO and the Space of Derivatives of the Zygmund Class

In particular, we will show that this space is the dual space of the special atom space, whose dual space was already known to be the space of derivative of functions (in the sense of distribution) belonging to the Zygmund class of functions. We show, in particular, that this proves that the Hardy space H1 strictly contains the special atom space
