Entry Strategies of Taiwan Sports Brand into European Market -The Case of JNICE
Badminton is the second most participated sport worldwide, with approximately 220 million individuals engaged in this high-intensity physical competition. The largest segment of this market is badminton rackets, with a global market value of about 580 million USD in 2020. In addition, participants in badminton often continue playing for more than 10 years, demonstrating its potential as a consumer market. Notably, Asia and Europe are the regions where badminton is most prevalent. Given this, the Taiwanese brand "JNICE" is entering the badminton market in Asia and Europe. As such, this study will explore how "JNICE" leverages Taiwanese manufacturing and an approachable pricing strategy to penetrate the European market.
This study aims to explore the strategies for the Taiwanese sports brand JNICE to enter the European market. Research methods include collecting relevant data on the JNICE brand, market analysis, consumer behavior investigation in the European market, and competitive analysis with European sports brands. The research results show that JNICE needs to focus on the following aspects to successfully enter the European market.
JNICE needs to deeply understand the cultural characteristics of the European market and design products in conjunction with consumer needs. Secondly, establish a unique brand image and story, emphasizing the brand's Taiwanese characteristics and innovative elements to enhance brand awareness. Furthermore, choose appropriate sales channels, including online e-commerce platforms and physical retail stores, and promote the brand using influencers and athlete endorsements.
JNICE should collaborate with local sports events and community organizations to foster interaction between the brand and consumers. Lastly, improve product quality and service levels to enhance customer loyalty, securing a place in the fiercely competitive European market.
This study provides specific strategic recommendations for the Taiwanese sports brand JNICE to enter the European market, contributing to the brand's success in the international market. Future research can further explore the market characteristics of different European countries to more accurately formulate brand expansion strategies
Factors Behind Why Citizens Stand Against the Abolition of the Death Penalty in Taiwan
Despite the fact that the public has long been against the abolition of the death penalty, the capital crime policy is still gradually turning the Republic of China into an abolitionist state. Although several studies were conducted in order to understand the reasons behind the public\ue2s anti-abolition stance, most of them emphasize only on factors such as deterrence, retribution, crime-related experiences, and sociodemographic differences, while other factors discussed and assumed to be related to anti-abolition attitude by foreign studies, e.g., rehabilitation and institutional trust, are rarely examined. Plus, most regression models were created to test the effect of a limited number of variables, a more thorough model that compares most of the major factors has not yet been developed. Furthermore, several Taiwanese scholars had made the argue that the alternatives to the death penalty should be seriously considered, yet the alternatives are still rarely discussed.
In this thesis, factors including crime-related experiences, punitiveness, deterrence, retribution, rehabilitation, incapacitation, human rights and humanity standard, wrongful convictions, dispositional attribution, judicial and correctional costs, and institutional trust are simultaneously examined within one binary logistic regression model. Also, the model is applied to four different anti-abolition attitudes, including anti-abolition when no alternative is given, anti-abolition when the alternative is LWOP, anti-abolition when the alternative is death sentence with reprieve, and anti-abolition when the alternative is de facto abolition (a person can be sentenced to death, but there will be no execution).
The result shows that when no alternative is offered, indicators that are found to be significant includes relatively conservative human rights and humanity standard, deterrence, retribution, and incapacitation. Relatively conservative human rights and humanity standard serves as the factor with the most impact. When the alternative is LWOP, indicators including deterrence, retribution and distrust of rehabilitation are found to be significant, and distrust of rehabilitation has more impact than the others. When the alternative is death sentence with reprieve, indicators found to be significant includes distrust of rehabilitation, negative crime-related experience, dispositional attribution, and the impression of death penalty costs not fewer than life imprisonment. When the alternative is de facto abolition, the indicators are relatively conservative human rights and humanity standard, deterrence, dispositional attribution, the impression of death penalty costs not fewer than life imprisonment, and lower institutional trust
Numerical investigation of the transient dynamics of photorefractive soliton under varying biased electric field
The photorefractive effect was discovered by Ashkin in the 1960s and 1970s.The study of the evolution of a single light beam was not conducted until the 1990s, when Segev proposed a model theory assuming that internal carriers follow rate equations is steady and can be reduced to a single equation through approximation. Therefore, related simulations were extensively explored, but most of the simulations assumed that the light beam does not change with time, which is not feasible in transient situation. Although some reference did not include the approximation premise, the required simulation time was too long. This paper considers the slow reaction characteristic of the photorefractive effect, assuming that the response speed of the light field is much faster than that of the built-in space charge field.First is the spatial distribution of the light field is calculated, and then the temporal change of the built-in electric field is calculated under what light intensity.This method can simulate the evolution of the light beam under different way of applied biases.This thesis focuses on low-frequency cases because there have been few simulations and experiments on low-frequency cases in the past.At the end of the paper, the algorithm similar to the variation method is introduced because the effective Lagrangian of the photorefractive effect is difficult to derive.Crank-Nickson method is empolyed to solve the temporal evolution part .Because the algorithm is based on a particular solution ansatz, the spatial or temporal evolution will be distorted when calculating more complicated cases
The effect of ESG on financial performance and credit ratings
This study explores the relationship between corporate ESG performance and financial performance and credit ratings (ROA, ROE, Tobin'sQ and credit ratings, etc.) from 2015 to 2021, and further explores whether the high-tech electronics industry has better financial performance and credit ratings due to better ESG performance.
The empirical results show that the better the ESG performance, the better the financial performance and credit rating have reached a significant level, among which the electronics industry is significantly better than the non-electronics industry in ROA, Tobin's Q and credit rating, and the ROE is not at a significant level, it is speculated that the possible reason is that, the debt ratio of the electronics industry is lower than that of the non-electronics industry on average, so the equity multiplier is less used to improve ROE, but the electronics industry can indeed achieve a significant level of better financial performance and credit rating due to better ESG performance. It means that electronics industries show better ESG performance does have better financial performance and credit ratings
Development of Facial Asymmetry System and Its Application in Alzheimer's Disease.
The focus of this paper is to compare facial asymmetry between individuals with Alzheimer's disease and healthy individuals.
After MediaPipe generate 68 landmarks, using the procrust error and facial tilt angles, age distribution, and CDR scale, participants' data is selected for classification and age prediction tasks. The classification task involves 237 healthy individuals and 237 patients, while the age prediction task includes 111 healthy individuals and 222 patients.
MediaPipe's 2D landmarks (468 landmarks) are used as input to train the TransPose model, which generated the predicted 2D landmark. Depth values are interpolated from MediaPipe's 3D coordinates and used landmarks to generated the procrust error, distance, and angle features for classification and age prediction.
In the TransPose classification dataset, a significant proportion of procrustes error, distance, and angle features have larger values in patients compared to healthy controls (76.67%, 38.18%, and 39.19% respectively), while a small proportion of healthy controls have larger values compared to patients (0%, 2.71%, and 0.70% respectively). Similarly, in the TransPose age prediction dataset, a significant proportion of patients have larger values than healthy controls (80.00%, 42.12%, and 30.51%), while a small proportion of healthy controls have larger values than patients (0%, 0.49%, and 0.29%). These findings strongly support the hypothesis of higher facial asymmetry in patients.

A Study on Cultivating a Chief Human Resource Officer
Since the famous American economist T.W. Schultz proposed the "Human Capital" theory in the early 1960s, along with subsequent empirical studies by other scholars, countries had begun to recognize the importance of human resources in economic development. In Taiwan, with the vigorous economic growth, companies are increasingly emphasizing the relationship between human capital and overall organizational performance, leading to a growing importance of human resource management and the role of CHRO (Chief human resource officer). An article in the Harvard Business Review in December 2014 quoted Ellie Filler's words, emphasizing that CHROs ' influence in organizations has surpassed their traditional administrative support role and become crucial in driving reforms and implementing strategies (Anonymous, 2014). In recent years, rapid changes in the business environment, especially the impact of the pandemic, have further highlighted the importance of CHROs (Yu, 2021). However, finding exceptional CHROs is not an easy task. Therefore, this study chose CHROs as the research subjects to explore their career development paths and identify the factors that contributed to their success.
The researcher, who has served as a senior HR executive in a major company in southern Taiwan, has developed in the field of human resources for many years and is currently engaged in HR consulting work. This study investigates the career development paths of CHROs based on the researcher's own experience and the practical experiences of other CHROs in the business sector. The research results not only provide a basis for cultivating CHROs and other top-level managers for companies but also serve as a reference for those who aspire to excel in the field of human resources.
The data for this study were collected through interviews with the researcher and eight experienced or current CHROs, selected through purposive sampling. To explore the career paths of these interviewees and the internal and external drivers and obstacles in their development, this study adopts six dimensions: internal motivation, cultivation systems, skill development, cultivation environment, career path and career development obstacles. According to the research findings, cultivating exceptional CHROs requires a comprehensive consideration of the six dimensions mentioned above. Cultivation systems, skill development, and cultivation environment are external factors, while internal motivation, career path, and career development obstacles are internal factors. Thus, achieving a balance and integrating between internal and external factors is crucial.
Based on the interview results, the researcher found that the development of human resource competence and capabilities of the eight interviewees was significantly influenced by crucial support from mentors, which contributed to their current achievements. Besides the assistance from mentors, continuous learning was identified as a major factor in shaping these CHROs into outstanding talents. In contrast to the past emphasis on individual efforts, this study highlights the pivotal role of interactions between individuals and their environment in the process of becoming CHROs and top-level managers. This signifies the importance of individuals having access to a cultivation system and conductive environment, as well as fostering positive interpersonal relationships to strengthen their internal drive. Subsequently, they can utilize this internal drive to sustain their career development
Influence of Referral Policy Attitudes and Information System Application on Family Physician Referral Effectiveness: A Case Study of a Medical Center's Integrated Care Program.
This study aims to explore the acceptance and recognition of the current referral system and electronic referral information platform among family physicians. The opinions of primary care physicians collaborating with a medical center in the southern region were collected through a structured questionnaire survey. The survey analyzed the views of family physicians on the referral system, their level of acceptance of current measures, and their acceptance of the electronic referral information platform. Additionally, the study investigated how individual traits and professional status of family physicians influence their considerations and effectiveness regarding referrals.
The survey was conducted among primary care physicians who had a referral partnership with the medical center in the southern region, specifically in the areas of Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Tainan, and they were asked to complete the questionnaire through mail or online. A total of 300 questionnaires were distributed, and 117 valid responses were received, resulting in a response rate of 39%. The questionnaire data were analyzed using SPSS/24.0 statistical software to ensure the anonymity and privacy of the participants. Among the respondents, 41.0% were contracted family physicians with the medical center in the southern region, and 78.6% were male. Furthermore, 59.0% of the respondents operated their own medical practice.
The results of this study indicate that, after controlling for other variables, family physicians' attitudes towards the referral policy and the application of the referral information system do not significantly affect the referral volume in their clinics. However, it is worth noting that the current direction of promoting the referral policy and the design principle of sharing medical resources in the referral information system have been widely accepted and recognized by family physicians. Furthermore, family physicians who have joined the medical center's integrated care program through contracts show significantly improved referral rates to the medical center, proactive tracking rates after referrals, and patient return rates compared to physicians who have not joined such contracts. This suggests that strengthening the cooperation between medical institutions and enhancing inter-institutional trust have a significant impact on promoting referrals. The findings of this study provide insights into improving the effectiveness of referrals and the future development of the referral platform. Subsequent researchers can focus on exploring other potential factors that may influence the effectiveness of referrals, such as physician communication skills, patient acceptance of referrals, health insurance payment policies, and more, to conduct a more comprehensive study on the impact and benefits of these factors
From Design to Social Design: Competitions, Practices and Boundaries of Social Design
The study focuses on the Social Design category of the Young Pin Design Award. Drawing on discussions in the field of Science and Technology Studies (STS) regarding network construction and professional boundaries, this paper analyzes the establishment of the Social Design category within the Young Pin Design Award. It explores how this category demarcates itself from general design, examines the process of social design practice within the design field, and investigates how designers connect heterogeneous elements, build design networks, create social design works, and participate in competitions.
Firstly, regarding the boundary-setting in the competition, this study finds that the presented social design in the competition is limited due to its exclusive focus on design students. Thus, the showcased designs only represent a fraction of social design. The criterion for evaluating social design works in the competition vary based on the composition of the judging panel, reflecting different interpretations of social design. Like the indeterminate characteristics of the design field, the standards for social design in the competition are not explicitly defined by the organizers and judges. Instead, these standards are demonstrated through the selected award-winning works, making the competition a platform for judges to vie and showcase their respective definitions of social design.
Secondly, the paper analyzes the networks constructed by social design works in practice. These networks, characterized by three features\ue2design-centricity, departure from conventional design attempts, and active response to the competition\ue2echo the understandings of social design in the context of the Young Pin Design Award and the broader design field. These networks showcase how design objects inherently embody design perspectives, depict the process of educators and students understanding and attempting social design creations, and demonstrate how active responses to the competition can achieve multiple educational, research, and enrollment-related goals.
In conclusion, the understanding and definition of social design within the competition result from negotiations and boundary-setting among diverse actors such as participants, judges, and organizers. The social design competition establishes a buffer between the design and social design domains, employing loose selection rules and judges with varying interpretations of social design to maintain space for innovative social design within the design field. Participants, by understanding award-winning works and translating them into their own submissions, continuously contribute to the demarcation of social design. Within the context of design education, educators and students also generate various types of social design networks through existing resources to respond to the new changes social design brings to the design field, showcasing the diverse possibilities for the practical implementation of social design
Trait-environment Interactions on Tree Recruitment in a Subtropical Rain Forest
As the largest carbon stock in terrestrial ecosystems, forests provide essential ecosystem functions. However, as environment change forest structure and composition change as well. Hence, it\ue2s crucial to understand population demography of tree in different environment to help us find up the impact of changing environment on forest dynamics. Previous studies used species diversity or biomass to predict forest structure and composition, but the uncertainty of model predictions varied due to differences in species composition, environment conditions, and land use history. Environmental changes alter plant demographic rates. In addition, different species show various responses to these changes, which might be explained by plant functional traits. Therefore, quantifying the interactions between plant functional traits and environment is essential for accurate predictions of plant community dynamics through time.
To quantify the interactions between plant traits and different environmental variables, I utilized tree recruitment data from multiple censuses of the Fushan Forest Dynamics Plot, along with the environmental variables and functional trait data, to construct the joint species distribution model (JSDM). Functional traits include leaf traits, maximum height, wood density, and seed mass, while environmental variables include leaf area index (LAI), soil nutrients, and topographical factors.
Recruitment in the subtropical rain forest was dependent on their life-history strategy, and the trait-environmental interactions were consistent across census intervals. As understory LAI increase, there is a gradual decrease in the recruitment of species with small and thick leaves, and high wood density while there was a gradual increase in the recruitment of species with large and thin leaves, and low wood density. As convexity increase, there is a decrease in the recruitment of species with small and thick leaves, while there is an increase in the recruitment of species with large and thin leaves.
This study demonstrates how the recruitment of subtropical trees was influenced by understory light, soil nutrients, and topographic factors. Different species show various responses to understory light and topographic factors, which can be explained by their leaf functional traits and wood density. Recently, several studies revealed similar trait-environmental interactions in tropical and temperate forests. These findings contribute to our deeper understanding of the mechanisms through which environmental change impacts forest dynamics
Component analysis and activity of cultured seahorse Hippocampus kuda extracts
Seahorse, Hippocampus spp., has been widely used as a traditional Chinese medicine for a long time. In Compendium of Materia Medica (Bencao Gangmu), seahorse was reported to have several effects, including promoting blood circulation, sexual malfunction, and even anti-inflammatory activity. Many pharmacological studies indicated that the extracts of hippocampus can not only enhance hematopoietic function but also has anti-tumor, anti-aging, and anti-fatigue properties. In addition, previous studies indicated that the dry body of the hippocampus contains steroids, peptides, essential amino acids, fatty acids, and trace elements.\ue3Usually, people are used to macerate the seahorses in the boiled water or wine for drinking.\ue3
In the thesis, we tried to make the extracts of the culturable seahorses, Hippocampus kuda, from biotech company and wild seahorses from Traditional Chinese Medicine store by water and methanol, individually. We isolated N-(2\ue2\ub2-aminoethyl)-cholamide, cholesterol, cholesterol palmitate, uracil, uridine, benzoic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, indole-3-carboxylic acid, L-phenylalanine, L-valine, and an unknown peptide from seahorse extract. Among the ingredients of seahorses, the methanol extract of seahorses contains anti-inflammatory activity, and seahorse polypeptides have also been found to have the activity of regulating immunity.
