Next Time Prediction of Interactions between New Users and Items using Meta-learning on Dynamic Network
Recommendation systems play a crucial role in various real-world scenarios, providing personalized suggestions to users. However, the cold-start problem remains a challenge for both traditional recommender systems and sequential recommendations. When new users or items join the system, accurate recommendations are hindered by the lack of prior interactions. To address this problem, meta-learning techniques have been explored to conquer it. One notable framework, metaDyGNN, leverages Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning and dynamic graph structures to mitigate the cold-start problem. However, accurately predicting the timing of interactions for new users remains a challenge. The HINTS model, developed for predicting academic paper citations, offers insights into timing prediction. In this paper, we aim to optimize the timing of new user-item interactions by integrating the strengths of metaDyGNN and HINTS. We propose a heuristic pipeline that utilizes metaDyGNN as an encoder and HINTS as a decoder. We evaluate our model on benchmark datasets for sequential recommendations and link prediction, demonstrating its superior performance in recommendation accuracy and overcoming the cold-start problem. We also highlight its ability to predict the next intervals using dynamic graph modeling. Through comprehensive evaluations, our proposed model showcases its efficacy in handling sequential recommendations and link prediction, contributing to the advancement of recommendation systems
Design of FMCW Vital Sign Radar Using Frequency-Locked Loop
With the advancement of semiconductor technology, radar systems have been shrinking in size, leading to the expansion of radar applications. Beyond traditional military uses, radar technology has found widespread applications in fields such as automotive, gesture recognition, healthcare monitoring, and disaster relief. Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar, which combines the advantages of continuous wave and pulse radar, can simultaneously measure distance, velocity, and vibration frequency. It features a simple hardware architecture and low cost, overcoming the limitations of traditional continuous wave radar in distance detection. However, the distance resolution and accuracy of FMCW radar are constrained by the linearity of the Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO). This limitation poses a significant challenge.
To address this issue, this study proposes the use of an active frequency-locked loop technique to enhance the linearity of the Voltage-Controlled Oscillator, thereby improving the performance of FMCW radar. The active frequency-locked loop compensates by comparing the frequency difference between the oscillator's output and a delayed signal. The loop consists primarily of a Voltage-Controlled Oscillator, a frequency discriminator, and a loop filter. To ensure the proper operation of the frequency discriminator, this study employs a two-stage PI-type low-pass filter for the loop filter, which is different from traditional passive frequency-locked loops. This method eliminates the need for delay lines and maintains the frequency discriminator in an orthogonal state automatically.
This thesis explores the potential of applying FMCW radar to physiological sensing. It introduces the fundamental principles of FMCW radar and provides a detailed derivation of the active frequency-locked loop. Through experiments, the thesis successfully detects human respiration, heartbeat, and distance using FMCW radar, validating the substantial improvement brought by the active frequency-locked loop in distance detection
YWHAZ Overexpression Promotes Aggressive Phenotypes and Immune Editing in Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer is the most common cancer in urine system with high relapse rate and drug resistance. YWHAZ amplification/overexpression is one of the key genetic events to promote chemo-/radio-resistance in bladder cancer through down-regulating caspase-mediated apoptosis. However, the regulatory roles of YWHAZ in tumor microenvironment (TME) remodeling and immune responses are largely unknown. For this end, an orthotopic bladder cancer model was established in C57BL/6J immune competent mice by using MB49 cells, a cancer cell line derived from C57BL mouse bladder epithelial cells transformed by chemical carcinogen DMBA. YWHAZ-overexpressing cell clones were generated in MB49 cells. Significantly reduced overall survival was found in mice injected with the YWHAZ-expressing cell clones. Anatomy and histology studies revealed swelling bladders filled with cancer cells. In addition, YWHAZ cell clones can easily invade the neighboring tissues through promoting aginogenesis and vascular leakage. Immune cell profiling in tumor lesions by flow cytometry indicated more monocytic-myeloid derived suppressor cell (M-MDSC) in GFP-control than YWHAZ-tumors. In addition, more tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) were found in YWHAZ-tumors than GFP control. Those data suggest down-regulation of innate immune system by YWHAZ during cancer development. Functional in vitro study revealed increased HIF-1 in YWHAZ-overexpressing cells with a better cell proliferation rate than GFP control cells under hypoxia condition. Our results thus indicate that YWHAZ overexpression enable cancer cells to invade deeper tissues and to escape immune surveillance through activation of HIF-1-mediated angiogenesis and modulation of immune cell profiles
A Study of Tseng Kuo-fan\ue2s Scholarly Foundations and His Practice of Statecraft
This thesis aims to explore Tseng Kuo-fan \ue2s practice of statecraft based on his disciplinary scholarship. Tseng stands out as a distinguish scholar- official in the era of crumbling Chinese empire, and his scholarly life is still under discovery. He was born into a prominent family and received traditional education that led him to be committed to statecraft studies in his early years. Originally, he focused on evidential scholarship, but soon turned to Neo-Confucianism when he moved to Beijing and engaged in dialogues with local scholars. While exploring Neo-Confucianism, Tseng also delicate to evidential scholarship, and embrace different other Chinese thoughts that forms his rich scholarly foundations and loyalty of the state. Experiencing a series of brutal battles, along with the resurgence of ritual traditions in the late-Qin period, which led to a transformation of his thoughts, Tseng shifted his focus from Neo-Confucianism to ritual studies. This shift led him to contemplate normative thinking in response to the contemporary context and, ultimately, world peace.
His statecraft is founded not only upon his adherence to Neo-Confucianism but also upon the accumulation of legal principles and orientations developed over thousands of years. When confronted with the challenges of governance, Tseng could devise viable and flexible solutions for dilemmas. For instance, he demonstrated that even with inadequate military power, but his moral convictions could assist him in overcoming and combating enemies during the Taiping Rebellion. Upon attaining power, his prudent personality contributes significantly to his triumph. Tseng displays a conservative disposition towards wielding power, committing himself to its responsible use and fostering collaboration. He engages with authority judiciously, maintaining a careful distance from its core to safeguard both himself and his family. Besides, his practice of ritual studies is embodied in different aspects such as, upbringing family, local governance, and diplomacy. The overall goal of this undertaking is thus combined Tseng\ue2s practice of statecraft together with his personal background in order to draw a vivid graphic of Tseng Kuo-fan during the era of crisis
Hunting and Masculinity in a Bunun Tribe: the case of Li Taoyuan in Taoyuan District of Kaohsiung City
This study aims to explore four aspects surrounding the theme of Bunun Tribe\ue2s hunting culture: how do Bunun men display masculinity in hunting culture; how is hunting culture practiced in daily life; how do contemporary elder hunters and young hunters view the hunting culture; and how does the hunting behavior affect the gender relationship of Bunun. In the era where one needs to hunt for a living, hunting was the men\ue2s job, and boys were taught to be hunters from an early age. Cultural taboos are strictly observed; women are considered a taboo in hunting and were not allowed to participate. However, with the changing times, in order to survive, many women have also participated in hunting activities. Additionally, contemporary Bunun boys are not forced to learn hunting skills, and instead are expected to study and acquire a stable career. Furthermore, as hunting has been criminalized and stigmatized, it ceased to be overt and candid, and the excellent "sharing" culture in hunting culture has gradually disappeared. Although the practice of hunting culture has changed due to differences in age, education, and religion, everyone in the tribe still wishes to preserve the wisdom of Bunun\ue2s hunting culture, including the beliefs, economic behaviors, and sharing culture, which are all important values that the tribe wishes to pass on to the next generation. Young hunters believe that if the hunting culture is not passed on, the Bunun culture will not be complete. Hence, in order to preserve the culture, the young Bunun men also tacitly allow women to participate in hunting, in order to continue the Bunun hunting culture rather than purely for economic reasons
Research on the Establishment and Development Strategy of Public Welfare App Platform: A Case Study of the Digital Tool ''Love for Public Welfare App''
With the emphasis on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, SDGs have become a significant global issue. In line with this development, universities in Taiwan have also introduced courses and credits related to sustainable development, incorporating the concept of sustainability to cultivate students' awareness of contributing to society. As our country strives to achieve the goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, not only by enacting climate change adaptation laws to align with global trends, but also by finding paths to sustainable existence amid various threats, urgent matters need resolution. Corporate entities are facing new industry challenges and social responsibilities. Government strategies for energy transition, industrial transformation, lifestyle shifts, and societal changes have become crucial foundations for driving sustainable development. In this context, public engagement and contributions are essential for the sustainability of public welfare. Establishing a platform for public welfare is a crucial step towards achieving sustainable development goals and societal rejuvenation.
In daily life, everyone has the capacity to participate in public welfare initiatives using their own resources and abilities, advancing society towards sustainable development objectives. As a social entrepreneur leading a social enterprise, the researcher constantly contemplates the maximum potential for personal contributions to society while pursuing the enterprise's social mission and sustainability.
However, after years of dedication to public welfare, the researcher has come to realize the limitations of individual or single-entity efforts. To truly make a significant impact on society, systematic approaches or mechanisms are required. These approaches should enable efficient allocation and precise deployment of resources to address various societal needs, thereby bringing about fundamental societal change and providing substantial assistance to the overall society and marginalized populations. How can the concept of public welfare sustainability be integrated, diverse interests harmonized, and digital technology harnessed to effectively propel the development of public welfare endeavors?
Hence, considering the researcher's expertise in information technology and the pressing demands of social welfare, the idea of developing strategies for a public welfare platform emerged. Through analysis and experimentation of various strategies, the goal is to establish a sustainable cycle mechanism and stronghold (referred to as the "Love for Welfare App" in this study) that provides tangible feedback and value creation for all stakeholders. This is to ensure that the platform can fulfill the dual responsibilities of sustainable operation and mission accomplishment, setting an example for information professionals who seek to give back to society and entrepreneurs who prioritize corporate social responsibility.
The aim of this research is to interconnect public welfare and sustainable development, propelling society towards a brighter sustainable future. The research methodology involves literature analysis and business strategy research, constructing a public welfare cycle platform that offers substantial assistance to all stakeholders. Taiwan could become a source of cultivating habits of kindness and improving social norms.
Regarding the necessity of building the "Love for Welfare App," the following analyses led to the conclusion of its necessity:
(1) The platform excels over others in terms of functionality, interface, resource mobilization, and digital security.
(2) From the perspective of corporate ESG, CSR, and SDG demands, the platform supports societal issues and integrates public welfare contributions, assisting public welfare enterprises in enhancing sustainability and expansion.
(3) The platform team possesses strong digital development and problem-solving capabilities, providing opportunities for public welfare enterprises to leverage digital technology for societal impact and improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
(4) The public welfare platform fosters positive interpersonal communication and creates a positive social influence, establishing a cycle of positivity between individuals and groups, and virtual and real environments, facilitating the potential for harmonious societal change.
(5) The platform incorporates a mechanism for regulating public welfare resources, alleviating distribution inequalities for small and medium-sized public welfare units and vulnerable groups that face fundraising challenges. It provides opportunities for various societal issues to gain exposure and promotes the overall health of Taiwan's public welfare sector, creating a more friendly and fair environment for public welfare resources. While addressing challenges faced by social welfare institutions nationwide, it also aligns with the vision of making Taiwan the country with the highest rate of widespread altruism
