Aging in Autism: Changes in the Hippocampal System and Verbal/ Visual Memory
No full textabstract: The aim of this study was to explore cross-sectional and longitudinal aging differences in immediate and delayed visual and verbal memory abilities in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) compared with neurotypicals (NTs). We measured hippocampal size, fornix fractional anisotropy (FA), and hippocampal and fornix freewater to understand how aging impacts memory structures. Longitudinal findings highlight vulnerabilities in immediate verbal memory and hippocampal volume, while cross-sectional findings indicate fornix freewater may increase at a faster rate in adults with ASD. Future research will examine cognitive and structural sex differences and will study how cognitive measures correlate with structural measures. (abstract
An Analysis of Healthcare Capital Equipment Planning and Healthcare Software Implementation
No full textabstract: Healthcare facilities are essential for any community, and they must stay up-to-date with the latest equipment and technology. They provide necessary resources for keeping populations healthy and safe. In order to provide healthcare services, these healthcare facilities must be adequately equipped with appropriate physical capital as well as software to meet the demands of their patients. Healthcare capital equipment planning involves building up a facility with all it’s equipment and is a part of the healthcare supply chain. Attainia is a healthcare capital equipment planning software used to assist equipment planners in organizing the procurement of equipment for their projects. Attainia has a large amount of data about the capital equipment supply chain through the Attainia equipment catalog. Analysis of this catalog data reveals different patterns in the spending patterns of capital equipment planners as well as trends in the supplier offerings. Since Attainia itself is a software, Attainia’s users have experience with implementing and integrating software into healthcare IT solutions. Their experiences give some insight into the complex nature of software implementations at healthcare facilities. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected healthcare facilities all over the world. Impacting the supply chain and hitting hospitals’ finances, COVID-19 has drastically changed many parts of the healthcare system. This paper will examine some of these ongoing effects from COVID-19 along with analysis on capital equipment planning, supply chain, and healthcare software implementation. (abstract

The effect of corpus callosum agenesis on the communication between cerebral hemispheres
No full textabstract: Agenesis of the corpus callosum is the lack of the development of the corpus callosum. This condition can lead to impairments in language processing, epilepsy, and emotion and social functioning, but many individuals with this condition do not show any of these impairments. The present study investigated the connectivity of language and sensorimotor networks within an individual with agenesis of the corpus callosum using resting-state fMRI. The individual’s results were compared to those of neurotypical control subjects. It was hypothesized that the overall interhemispheric functional connectivity would be less than that of a control group in bilateral language networks, but the intrahemispheric connectivity, particularly within the sensorimotor network, would show greater functional connectivity. The results revealed significantly weaker functional connectivity in the individual with agenesis of the corpus callosum within the right ventral stream compared to the control group. There were no other significant inter or intrahemispheric differences in the functional connectivity of the language and sensorimotor networks. These findings lead us to conclude that the right hemisphere’s ventral stream perhaps relies upon connections with the left hemisphere’s language networks to maintain its typical functionality. The results of this study support the idea that, in the case of corpus callosum agenesis, the right language network may contribute differently to language processes than in neurotypical controls. Adherence to Fitness Goals Through an Online versus In-Person Community
No full textabstract: As technological advancement increases and becomes more accessible to everyone around the world, many communities and support groups have begun to offer online options for their programs, whether it be a fitness program, online therapy group, or doctor’s appointment. With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting every country around the world, online and virtual communities have become more necessary than ever. Using personal experience from an online fitness community formed as a response to social isolation called“Barrett Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies,� research was conducted to determine if online communities had the same effectiveness as in-person communities in reaching and maintaining individual health goals. Peer-reviewed scientific articles and research papers from many countries around the world were analyzed for demonstration and quantification of the efficacy of other online communities compared to in- person groups. In addition, the benefits and limitations of online communities were identified. Using all of the research and data collected, a novel fitness program was designed for implementation with an online synchronous group (OSG) and an online asynchronous option serving as a control to observe any differential adherence of participants to fitness goals. The proposed OSG consists of meetings and workouts through Zoom and is more interactive, even virtually. The control group had no interaction with others and completed the workouts alone. While this program was not distributed to the public and tested as part of this project, it was designed to be an optimized pilot program to test the impact of remote community engagement on goal attainment. It is predicted that the OSG would demonstrate improvement over control in better reaching goals and increased satisfaction with results. Scientific literature from a variety of disciplines discussed here informs this prediction. (abstract

No full textabstract: This project consists of 2 electronic/instrumental musical albums, each with 4 songs, aimed at becoming a source of solo therapy for those affected by mental illnesses. The calm album contains calm and relaxing music to combat anxiety and the HAPPY album contains happy and uplifting music to combat depression. While the musical elements stabilize the listener’s mental state, their own internal dialogue and meditation work to heal the listener’s mental illness. (abstract
