Evaluation of mechanical properties of FDM parts reinforced with interlayer metal structures
Soil microbiome study of portulaca oleracea under different agricultural practises
[ENG] This doctoral dissertation has been presented in the form of thesis by publication. The combination of intensive agriculture and the effects of climate change has accelerated soil degradation, reducing its productive capacity. To reverse this trend, it is crucial to adopt sustainable agricultural systems, and to evaluate the effects that these practices have on the soil, the soil microbiome is considered a key indicator of its quality, as it participates in biogeochemical processes and responds rapidly to environmental changes. This thesis aims to study the cultivation of purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.), a wild edible species that is resistant to high temperatures and low precipitation and has high nutritional value, under sustainable agricultural systems. Using as the main bioindicator of soil quality the in-depth study of microbial communities. To achieve this, four scientific studies have been conducted: The first publication consists of a literature review on the agronomic potential of purslane under different agricultural practices and systems, highlighting its value as a crop, particularly in vulnerable regions where the use of fertilisers is limited. The second publication analyses two purslane genotypes to determine their productivity and their effect on soil microbiome composition. Divergences were observed based on their origin, which justifies the need to select the most suitable genotype according to soil characteristics and agricultural applications. In the third publication, different levels of both inorganic and organic fertilisation on the growth of purslane and its impact on the soil microbiome were studied, and it was demonstrated that treatments with inorganic fertilisation led to a loss of taxonomic and functional microbial diversity. In the fourth publication, a study was conducted on the growth of purslane and its effects on the microbiome of its rhizosphere in combination with legumes, both in rotation (peas) and intercropping (cowpea), as well as the combination of both. The increase in purslane growth was similar in all cases compared to its monoculture; however, only crop rotation induced significant changes in the microbiome, with an increase in enzymatic activity, as well as in bacterial groups associated with nitrogen fixation and organic matter mineralisation. From this study, we can conclude that purslane could be a promising crop for implementation under sustainable agricultural systems, contributing to the maintenance and improvement of the soil microbiome, thus becoming a viable alternative for implementation in regions affected by soil degradation, such as the Mediterranean environment. Physiological Response in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) During Social Robot Interaction
In a world where social interaction presents challenges for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), robots are stepping in as allies in emotional learning. This study examined how affective interactions with a humanoid robot elicited physiological responses in children with ASD, using electrodermal activity (EDA) and heart rate variability (HRV) as key indicators of emotional arousal. The objectives were to identify emotionally salient moments during human–robot interaction, assess whether certain individual characteristics — such as age or ASD severity — modulate autonomic responses, and evaluate the usefulness of wearable devices for real-time monitoring. Thirteen children participated in structured sessions involving a range of social, cognitive, and motor tasks alongside the robot Pepper. The results showed that the hugging phase (HS2) often generated greater autonomic reactivity in children, especially among younger children and those with higher levels of restlessness or a higher level of ASD. Children with level 2 ASD displayed higher sympathetic activation compared to level 1 participants, who showed more HRV stability. Age also played a role, as younger children demonstrated lower autonomic regulation. These findings highlight the relevance of physiological monitoring in detecting emotional dysregulation and tailoring robot-assisted therapy. Future developments will explore adaptive systems capable of adjusting interventions in real time to better support each child’s unique needs. This project was funded in part by grant PID2020- 115220RB-C22 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/ 501100011033, and in part by grants DTS19/00175 and PDC2022-133952-100 funded by the Spanish "Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades" and by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No. 899287 (NeuraViPeR), by the European Commission MSCA-SE EPISTEAM, as well as the "Premio Tecnologías Accesibles de Indra y Universia Fundación". TRUST Lab [Dataset]
Key Characteristics:
Single-Class Session Policy: The dataset is built on a design where each capture session contains exclusively benign traffic or a single attack family. This prevents temporal overlap and ensures that every bi-flow has an unambiguous label.
Modern Traffic and APIs: The benign traffic simulates enterprise-grade services (HTTP/S, DNS, SSH, MySQL) and includes modern API traffic (REST, GraphQL, SOAP), which is critical for representing contemporary edge environments.
Diverse Threat Coverage: It incorporates 15 distinct attack families, including volumetric attacks (DDoS/DoS), reconnaissance (Portscan), web and API exploits, brute force, DNS abuse, MITM, NIDS evasion, and persistence vectors like C2/beaconing and exfiltration.
CICFlowMeter Integration: The raw traffic was processed using CICFlowMeter (version 4.0) to generate bidirectional flows (bi-flows). It provides a standardized schema of 80 statistical features per flow, allowing for lightweight detection without payload inspection.
Structure and Scale: The dataset comprises approximately 4.6 million bi-flows distributed across 16 independent single-class CSV files. This modular structure allows researchers to construct custom distributions and prevents temporal leakage during model training.
Realistic Imbalance: The data reflects a realistic traffic distribution where benign activity dominates, with a ratio of approximately 1.3:1 between benign and malicious flows.Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) for IoT and edge environments require datasets with unambiguous labels. Existing corpora often mix benign and malicious traffic within the same capture window, producing ambiguous flow labels that distort model evaluation. This work introduces the TRUST Lab Dataset, a flow-based traffic corpus designed under a single-class session policy: each capture contains exclusively benign traffic or a single attack family, preventing temporal overlap and ensuring label integrity at the bi-flow level. The dataset was generated in an operational testbed reproducing enterprise-grade services (HTTP/S, DNS, email, SSH, SNMP, NTP, MySQL) and modern APIs (REST, GraphQL, SOAP), combined with 15 attack families spanning DDoS/DoS, port scanning, brute force, web/API exploits, DNS abuses, MITM, NIDS evasion, tunneling/exfiltration, C2/beaconing, TLS/SSL anomalies, buffer overflow, and slowloris. Traffic was processed with CICFlowMeter into 16 single-class CSV files totaling ~4.6million bi-flows with 80 features per flow. Comprehensive statistical analyses (distributions, correlation, ANOVA, PCA) confirm discriminative signal without payload inspection. A binary meta-classifier achieves ROC-AUC 0.9676 and recall 0.95, validating TRUST Lab's utility for lightweight edge-oriented IDS evaluation. This research is part of the project TRUST Lab, R&D&I Laboratory in Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Secure Communications, financed by European Union NextGeneration-EU, the Recovery Plan, Transformation and Resilience, through INCIBE
Numerical simulation of stokes flow by means of the software julia

Influence of growing media on yield and quality of rocket plant
[ENG] This Final Degree Project evaluates the effect of different substrate combinations on the yield and nutritional quality of rocket (Diplotaxis tenuifolia) in a soilless greenhouse cultivation system. Three substrates were compared: coconut fiber (FC 100%), coconut fiber with 10% organic amendment of animal origin (FC + Natupost, 90/10% v/v), and a mix of coconut fiber with agro-industrial compost (FC + Compost, 50/50% v/v). The objective was to analyze their influence on key agronomic variables, including biomass, leaf area, ionic content, and root parameters, across two successive harvests. The results showed that the FC + Natupost treatment promoted significantly greater vegetative development, reflected in higher yield, dry weight, leaf area, and shoot/root ratio. Moreover, this substrate favored the accumulation of essential nutrients (potassium, calcium, and sulphates) in plant tissues without critically increasing sodium, nitrate and chloride levels. In contrast, the FC 100% substrate showed limitations in nutrient availability, while the mixture with agro-industrial compost reduced performance in some physiological parameters. The analysis of both harvests revealed significant improvements in the second crop in variables such as yield, number of leaves, plant height, dry weight of plant organs (leaves, stems, and roots), and leaf area. It is important to note that the organic amendment used represented only 10% of the total substrate volume in the most effective treatment, with coconut fiber remaining the primary component. Therefore, this cannot be considered a replacement by an alternative substrate, but rather a targeted enhancement of the conventional one. In conclusion, the study suggests that small additions of organic amendments, especially those of animal origin, enhance the yield and nutrient profile of rocket plants in a soilless culture system.Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería AgronómicaUniversidad Politécnica de Cartagen

Vegetation type modulates spatial-temporal variations in soil conditions in technically restored and spontaneously colonized metalliferous mine tailings
Mine tailings are open-air waste deposits enriched in metal(loid)s derived from ore processing. Their restoration may proceed through capping and afforestation, which isolate the tailings from the outset, or through spontaneous plant colonization, a slower process whose study provides a model for evaluating the feasibility of direct plant establishment on these materials. Although both pathways can improve soil quality and reduce metal(loid) mobility, the role of vegetation type in modulating these processes remains insufficiently understood. We assessed the effects of shrubs and trees on the physico-chemical, chemical and biological properties of upper soil layers in two metalliferous tailings in semiarid southeastern Spain: one technically restored and one naturally colonized for several decades. Over one year, we monitored soil microclimate, nutrient pools, total and water-soluble metal(loid)s, microbial attributes and ecotoxicity under shrub and tree patches. Tree soils were consistently cooler and wetter during the warm season, with temperature differences of 3–7 °C and moisture differences of 1–4 %. In the colonized tailing, trees markedly improved soil structure and biological functioning relative to shrubs, with higher aggregate stability (50 vs. 34 %), total organic carbon (12 vs. 5 g kg−1), microbial respiration (up to 0.9 g m−2 h−1 CO2) and dehydrogenase activity (0.8 vs. 0.4 μg INTF kg−1 h−1). Despite very high total metal(loid) concentrations (Pb 2150–5400 mg kg−1; Zn 1700–3300 mg kg−1), water-soluble fractions remained comparatively low (100–900 μg kg−1) and increased mainly when dissolved organic carbon peaked under trees. The present study is part of the R&D&I project PID2020-118941RA-I00, funded by Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades / Agencia Estatal de Investigación / 10.13039/501100011033 (project WARMET).
