Wbrew stereotypom.
„Time Travel”. Trendy te często stanowią dla seniorów pierwszy kontakt z aplikacją, a zarazem stwarzają przestrzeń do międzypokoleniowej współpracy skoncentrowanej wokół współczesnych mediów audiowizualnych.
Synthesis and biological activity evaluation of derivatives of natural origin compounds: ivermectin and monensin
Wydział ChemiiCelem rozprawy doktorskiej była synteza oraz analiza spektroskopowa i spektrometryczna pochodnych iwermektyny i monenzyny – naturalnych związków o szerokim spektrum aktywności biologicznej. Otrzymane analogi przebadano pod kątem aktywności przeciwnowotworowej i przeciwpasożytniczej (testy in vitro). Otrzymano m.in. biokoniugaty celujące w mitochondria komórek nowotworowych oraz nowe analogi makrocykliczne. Wybrane pochodne wykazały znacząco wyższą aktywność biologiczną niż związki wyjściowe – np. amidy iwermektyny działały około 230 razy silniej przeciwko pasożytom śpiączki afrykańskiej, a uretan O-fenylowy monenzyny okazał się około 8-krotnie bardziej aktywny w zwalczaniu pasożytów wywołujących malarię niż związek wyjściowy, osiągając wartość parametru IC50 niższą niż 1 nM.
The aim of this doctoral dissertation was the synthesis and spectroscopic/spectrometric analysis of derivatives of ivermectin and monensin – natural compounds with a broad spectrum of biological activity. The obtained analogs were evaluated for their anticancer and antiparasitic activity (in vitro tests), enabling the assessment of structure–activity relationships. In light of WHO forecasts regarding the rising incidence of cancer and increasing drug resistance among parasites, this research addresses the urgent global need for new bioactive agents. The work focused on chemical modifications at position C13 of ivermectin and at positions C1 and C26 of monensin. Among the synthesized compounds were bioconjugates targeitng the mitochondria of cancer cells, as well as novel macrocyclic analogs. Selected derivatives exhibited significantly higher biological activity than the parent compounds – for example, certain ivermectin amides demonstrated approximately 230-fold greater efficacy against parasites responsible for African trypanosomiasis, while the O-phenyl urethane of monensin was about 8 times more active against malaria-causing parasites, achieving an IC50 value below 1 nM. These findings confirm that rational modification of known compounds can lead to the discovery of new, highly active drug candidates.Badania dotyczące chemicznej modyfikacji iwermektyny mające na celu otrzymanie nowych pochodnych wykazujących aktywność przeciwnowotworową oraz przeciwpasożytniczą finansowane były przez Ministerstwo Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego w ramach projektu Diamentowy Grant (nr 0159/DIA/2020/49).
Badania dotyczące chemicznej modyfikacji monenzyny mające na celu otrzymanie koniugatów celujących w mitochondria komórek nowotworowych finansowane były przez Narodowe Centrum Nauki w ramach grantu OPUS 21 (nr 2021/41/B/ST4/00088).
Badania dotyczące chemicznej modyfikacji iwermektyny oraz monenzyny realizowane były częściowo w ramach programu Inicjatywa Doskonałości – Uczelnia Badawcza
The Education of a Child up to Seven Years of Age. The Polish Perspective
The Education of a Child up to Seven Years of Age.
The book aims to present the historical and social contexts of education of children up to the age of seven in the face of the most important factors shaping the Polish tradition in this field. The authors assume that the changing historical, social, geographical, political and economic reality, understood in the broad sense, determines changes in thinking about education, influencing educational ideologies and education goals formulated at the national level.
The monograph reflects on three main problems: the child as a subject of Polish education (including ways in which the child achieves independence, and the importance of teacher support in relation to the challenges of the modern world); the education of the child in the Polish nursery school (including the scope of the term ‘early childhood education’, and the results of focus studies conducted with nursery school caregivers from the Wielkopolska region); education in the Polish kindergarten (including an analysis of the binding Polish core curriculum for kindergarten education or changes in the meaning, role, tasks of kindergartens in Poland).
The Education of a Child up to Seven Years of Age. The Polish Perspective is the first study in English to analyse the formation of the Polish tradition of educating a child up to the age of seven
Harmonized Alignment in Ethical Leadership: Synthesizing Maimonides’ Rational Allegiance and Dessler’s Giving Paradigm
This article offers a comparative analysis of leadership paradigms articulated by Maimonides and Rabbi Eliyahu Dessler, emphasizing their enduring relevance to contemporary ethical and organizational leadership. Maimonides’ Dual Allegiance model integrates intellectual rigor, ethical autonomy, and social responsibility into a rational, duty-bound framework. In contrast, Rabbi Dessler’s Giving Paradigm, as presented in Strive for Truth, centers on relational ethics, moral intentionality, and the transformative power of altruistic giving. Despite their differing emphases – cognitive clarity versus emotional insight – both approaches converge in promoting a multidimensional, ethically grounded vision of leadership. This study introduces Harmonized Alignment, a synthesis that balances intellect, empathy, and moral action, grounded in classical Jewish thought. The model offers practical guidance for leaders navigating ethical dilemmas and striving to foster sustainable, value-driven organizational cultures in complex modern environments
The Subject in the Face of the Lifeworld: A Phenomenological Reading of Àlex Susanna’s Landscape with Figures (2019)
The aim of the article is to analyse the process of subject formation in the diary Paisatge amb figures written by the Catalan author Àlex Susanna. The first part of the article provides a brief overview of Àlex Susanna’s autobiographical writing and examines the characteristic of the diary writing in context of Catalan literary studies. Moreover, it explores the posture of narrator in Paisatge amb figures, which is based on the distinction theorized by Małgorzata Czermińska. The phenomenological approach to the diary, which constitutes the second part of analysis, demonstrated that the process of formation of the subject takes place in relation to the lifeworld (Lebenswelt). This perspective allows for the identification of crucial elements in the construction of the subject: the relation with art, nature and the experience of time
Deduction of the Concept of ‘Vitality’ in Hegel’s Philosophy
In Hegel’s philosophy, the dialectic of life is based on the expedient course of the concept. This contribution sets itself the task of conducting a hermeneutical and historical-critical reconstruction of the foundation of Hegel’s speculative-dialectical method. The aim is to reveal the philosophical genesis of the concept of ‘vitality’ and its interrelation with spirit. In such a perspective, the idea of the emergence of living matter, which is opposed to the processes of decomposition in the universe, is proposed. The hypothesis here offers a treatment of negative entropy (negentropy) in terms of Hegel’s speculative-dialectical methodology and the spiritual force of the concept that resists the decay of matter. Within such a philosophical conceptualisation arises the concept of vitality, which clarifies the relation between the form of consciousness that a subject can achieve and the energy it will expend to build and structure such a form of consciousness. Of interest is the result that the infinite growth of vitality simultaneously achieves absolute spiritualisation
The Paradox of Subjective Self-Knowledge in the Context of Hermeneutical Epistemic Injustice
This article addresses the problem of epistemic injustice as conceptualized by Miranda Fricker, focusing specifically on its hermeneutical dimension. The author reconstructs the notion of hermeneutical injustice, illustrating how marginalized social groups lack access to adequate conceptual resources necessary for understanding and articulating their experiences. The analysis is then deepened through the lens of subjective self-knowledge, revealing a paradox: such self-knowledge appears to be both a precondition for and an outcome of overcoming hermeneutical injustice. The article concludes with a reflection on the epistemic burden placed on marginalized groups and raises the question of whether the process of resolving epistemic injustice can itself be epistemically just
The Life of/in Nature. From Hegel to British Idealism and Its Twentieth-Century Afterlives
This essay traces the philosophical development of the concept of organic life and nature from Hegel’s Philosophy of Nature through British Idealism to the twentieth-century thought of Alfred North Whitehead and Hans Jonas. It highlights how Hegel’s idea of the organism as a self-producing, purposive unity influenced later thinkers, directly or indirectly, shaping views of nature as inherently processual, relational, and teleological. By uncovering the Hegelian echoes in British Idealism and beyond, the essay argues for the continuing relevance of speculative conceptions of life and nature. This reconstruction offers new insights into contemporary philosophical biology and environmental ethics, suggesting that the categories of organism, purposiveness, and selfhood remain vital for rethinking the place of life within nature today
Subjective getting to the core of war. “War. An anthology of war reportage” by Wojciech Jagielski
Znalazły się tu teksty m.in. Można postawić tezę, że czytelnik, postawiony w sytuacji piętrowego subiektywizmu nadawców, zyskuje ogląd w jakiejś mierze zobiektywizowany, a to punkt wyjścia do podmiotowej oceny zjawisk i zagadnień.
Two years ago Wojciech Jagielski, a reporter, war correspondent, author of many reporter books telling about conflicts in the Caucasus, Afghanistan or Africa published an anthology of texts about war entitled: War. An anthology of war reportage. It is a record of one hundred years of conflicts and wars – from the October Revolution to the present day – told by eyewitnesses. Jagielski selected texts by war correspondents of the highest caliber. There are texts by Ernest Hemingway, Ryszard Kapuscinski, Winston Churchill, Anna Politkovskaya, Gabriel García Marquez and Oriana Fallaci, among others. The protagonists selected by the reporter capture armed conflicts in a very subjective way, and their voices create a very diverse picture of the “panorama of thoughts” about armed conflicts. On this kaleidoscope of impressions and reflections, the author of the selection superimposes – by the very choice – his point of observation. In addition, he still annotates the statements of the cited authors with his own thoughts and personal memories of wars. Through this very personal selection of texts, the reader will learn, on the one hand, what war is for Jagielski’s characters, but also what thoughts, ideas in telling about wars are crucial for the reporter. It can be argued that, placed in a situation of bunk subjectivity of the broad-casters, the reader gains a view that is to some extent objectified, and this is the starting point for a subjective evaluation of phenomena and issues
Aerial Digital Archaeology and Data Ethics through the Lens of Actor-Network Theory
Actor-network theory emphasizes the importance of technology in archaeological research, particularly in aerial digital archaeology. It deconstructs objective narratives by revealing the complexity of knowledge production, including the archaeologist’s expertise, excavation tools, technology, and the researcher’s cultural background. Data are a dynamic output of the network, influenced by factors like tools, environment, and survey timing. The researcher’s cultural context also plays a role, as Western archaeologists may have different approaches and interpretations from those of researchers from developing countries. The theory also highlights the power dynamics of the network, with those controlling it – through technology, funding, and interpretation – wielding greater influence. This raises ethical concerns, especially in cases of “parachute science”, where foreign researchers conduct research in developing countries. A strong ethical framework is therefore needed to address these issues, and to promote collaboration and knowledge transfer. Actor-network theory encourages a more collaborative, ethically sound approach to understanding the past, especially when using aerial digital archaeology. This article systematically argues for such an approach
