"It didn't work and it's a loss for everyone": analysis of the factors that affect the breakdowns of foster care processes in the Autonomous Community of Navarre
The aim of this research is to analyze the factors that influence the interruption of the foster care process. An exhaustive documentary analysis has been carried out and a qualitative methodology has been used based on semi-structured interviews with foster families in which there has been an unplanned interruption of the foster care process. The research shows how the current configuration of the foster care system favors the existence of obstacles to the inadequate development and implementation of the measure. The results reflect the presence of a series of breakdown factors related to: 1) the foster child, his/her age and previous experiences; 2) the foster family, the existence of previous children and their education; and 3) the professional intervention, the intensity of the follow-up, the support offered and the supervision carried out. Based on the study, a proposal for structural improvement in the foster care procedure is made according to the different phases of the process in order to prevent and/or mitigate possible interruptions in the process
Design of a washroom product oriented to people with disabilities
This project is focused on the design of a shower platform specifically to address the challenges faced by people with physical disabilities. The product is expected to enable users to perform daily tasks independently, safely and comfortably. Several alternatives have been studied taking into account the main needs of people with disabilities. The selected product has been designed by using SolidWorks. It consists of a motorised linear system using a rack and pinion mechanism that gives movement to an adapted and comfortable seat, IoT has also been integrated to facilitate the protocol in case of emergency. In addition, some key components have been studied by simulating a real scene to verify their correct design and functioning. Furthermore, the rack and pinion system has been analysed to bending stress and deterioration failure and an interactive website has been done in order to make those analysis more efficiently. A detailed budget has been made to approximate the price of the product, making it accessible to a wider range of consumers.
Effects of an individualised exercise program in hospitalised older adults with cancer: a randomised clinical trial
We aimed to examine the effects of an individualised multicomponent exercise program on functional outcomes in hospitalised older patients with cancer. Patients aged ¿ 65 were recruited upon admission to a Medical Oncology Department and randomly allocated to receive a multicomponent exercise training program twice daily for five days or standard hospital care. The primary outcome measure was the change in functional status using the Short Physical Performance Battery. This study allocated 30 patients in the Control group and 28 in the intervention group. The mean age was 74.4 years. The intervention group (n = 14) showed significant improvements vs the Control group (n = 20) in the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) (between-group difference, 1.92; 95% CI = 0.80,3.07), knee extension strength (between-group difference 7.72; 95% CI = 1.83,13.8), as well as a significant reduction in fatigue (between-group difference —26.5; 95% CI = —38.6,—13.9). This individualised exercise program appears to have contributed to improving functional abilities and reducing fatigue in hospitalised older cancer patients.Open Access funding provided by Universidad Pública de Navarra. National populism and religion: the case of Fratelli d'Italia and VOX
Religion has become increasingly important in the discourse and ideology of the 'fourth wave' of the populist radical right which began in 2000 in Europe. To achieve its normalization in the political contest, these formations have shifted from openly racist positions to other arguments that, like religion, can be used to present their proposals in terms that are, at least apparently, democratic. This paper analyzes how Fratelli d'Italia and Vox appeal to religion in their efforts to construct national identity and differentiate from the "Other". To develop our research, we have carried out a qualitative analysis of the programs, founding documents, speeches, parliamentary interventions, interviews, and key messages of the leaders of both parties from their foundation until the European elections of June 2024. Despite the differences, the emergence of religion in a broad sense, as a form of a sacralization of politics, can be observed in both parties. In both cases, there is also a "politicization" of religion, which emerges as a secularized Christianity. Both parties appeal to a "Christian secularity", which, in their opinion, must be defended against Islam. This research was funded by the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). Sanciones internacionales.
Mapping acrylamide content in potato chips using near-infrared hyperspectral imaging and chemometrics
This study investigated the potential of near-infrared hyperspectral imaging (NIR-HSI) for the prediction of
acrylamide content in potato chips. A total of 300 tubers from two potato varieties (Agria and Jaerla) grown in
two seasons and processed under the same frying conditions were analysed. Partial Least Square Regression
(PLSR) and Support Vector Machine Regression (SVMR), combined with a logarithmic transformation of the
acrylamide levels, were applied to develop predictive models. The most optimal outcomes for PLSR yielded R2
p:
0.85, RMSEP: 201 μg/kg and RPD: 2.53, while for SVMR yielded R2
p: 0.80, RMSEP: 229 μg/kg and RPD: 2.22.
Furthermore, the selection of significant wavelengths enabled an 87.95 % reduction in variables without
affecting the model’s accuracy. Finally, spatial mapping of acrylamide content was conducted on all chips in the
external validation set. This method provides both quantification and visualization capabilities, thus enhancing
quality control for acrylamide identification in processed potatoes. This work was supported by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (MICIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033), Spain, project: PID2019-109790RR-C22 and the predoctoral grant (PRE2020-094533) associated to it
The growing exposure of minors to social media by their parents has been called sharenting. The main objective of this work is to analyse when parents engage in unlawful interference with the rights of the minor’s personality and, therefore, whether or not they are liable for damages caused. In addition to this central point, the right to personal image, privacy and family life and protection of personal data will be studied individually; and also, it will be clarified how the capacity and the best interests of the child limit the exercise of parental authority by the parents. In addition, the adequacy or insufficiency of existing regulation to address sharenting and ensure the privacy of the child will be assessed.Máster Universitario en Acceso a la Abogacía y a la Procura por la Universidad Pública de NavarraAbokatutzarako eta Prokuradoretzarako Sarbideko Unibertsitate Masterra Nafarroako Unibertsitate Publikoa
Achievements and failures of feminism in the Spanish Transition: women’s crimes, decriminalized but not amnestied
Women’s rights movements had a decisive influence on the criminal reforms carried out in the Spanish Transition regarding the then so-called ‘women’s crimes’, i.e. the crimes of adultery and cohabitation, abortion, contraception, rape and abduction, and abandonment of the home. The mobilizations promoted by feminism largely achieved their objectives, as most of the criminal legislation on the subject was modified. However, feminism did not succeed in exerting sufficient political pressure to ensure the inclusion of the women convicted for these crimes in the 1977 Amnesty Law. This law was not repealed, so those convictions remain in force
Talking to write: insights into the oral interactions of young EFL writers repeating a collaborative task
Writing and speaking, being considered the productive skills, have been traditionally
studied in isolation in second language acquisition research. However, these two skills
are interwoven in collaborative writing (CW) tasks. In CW, the process of writing a
text, which had been traditionally considered a solitary task (Lázaro-Ibarrola, 2023;
Storch, 2005), is carried out in collaboration, with two or more learners talking to each
other to decide what to write and how to write it. Thus, CW tasks enable the very
desirable integration of skills, in this case of writing and speaking, for teaching and
research purposes (Hirvela & Belcher, 2016; Lázaro-Ibarrola, 2023).This study was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, National Research Agency and European Regional Development Fund-AEI/FEDER/EU [FFI2016-74950-P]
