Electrochemical Sensing of Gallic Acid in Beverages Using a 3D Bio-Nanocomposite Based on Carbon Nanotubes/Spongin-Atacamite

    No full text
Gallic acid (GA) is one of the most important polyphenols, being widely used in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries due to its biological effects such as antioxidant, antibacterial, anticancer, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective properties. Hence, simple, fast, and sensitive determination of GA is of particular importance. Considering the fact that GA is an electroactive compound, electrochemical sensors offer great potential for GA quantitation due to their fast response time, high sensitivity, and ease of use. A simple, fast, and sensitive GA sensor was fabricated on the basis of a high-performance bio-nanocomposite using spongin as a natural 3D polymer, atacamite, and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The developed sensor showed an excellent response toward GA oxidation with remarkable electrochemical features due to the synergistic effects of 3D porous spongin and MWCNTs, which provide a large surface area and enhance the electrocatalytic activity of atacamite. At optimal conditions by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), a good linear relationship was obtained between peak currents and GA concentrations in a wild linear range of 500 nM to 1 mM. Subsequently, the proposed sensor was used to detect GA in red wine as well as in green and black tea, confirming its great potential as a reliable alternative to conventional methods for GA determination

Two polymorphs of the title compound, C20H23N3O2, have been isolated. Polymorph (I) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n and polymorph (II) in the tetragonal space group I41/a. The main difference between the two polymorphs on the molecular level is the orientation of the n-propyl group. This group is antiperiplanar in (I) and synclinal in (II). The core of the molecule consists of two carbamoyl units bound to an enamine unit. The most prominent features are intramolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds in both polymorphs. Both polymorphs form dimers with graph set R22(12) via intermolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Adjacent dimers of (I) are connected via a weak C—H⋯O interaction, resulting in a chain parallel to the crystallographic a-axis. The dimers of (II) are connected by weak C—H⋯π interactions, forming intermolecular chains along the c-axis direction

On the influence of quenched randomness on the large-scale behavior in drift-diffusion equations and variational interface models

    No full text
In this thesis we study the influence of quenched randomness on the large-scale behavior in three mathematical models. First, we study a drift-diffusion process with a random drift that is assumed to be divergence-free. Moreover, we consider two variational interface models. Motivated by recent progress on the two-dimensional Random Field Ising Model, we study a perimeter functional perturbed by an external random field. Moreover, we analyze the limiting behavior of heterogeneous Allen-Cahn functionals with random coefficients. Chapter 2 is concerned with the large-time behavior of the aforementioned drift-diffusion process, which we study in the critical situation of a white noise-type drift in two space dimensions. Upon taking thermal averages, we show that the resulting process displays intermittent behavior. More specifically, we study the thermally averaged Jacobian matrix with respect to the starting point, which we like to understand as a measure of sensitivity for the dependence on the initial data. We show that normalized second moments of this process are not equi-integrable. The result is obtained through the analysis of an approximation that implements the idea of a scale-by-scale homogenization technique. This approximation shows intermittent behavior, which can be monitored through its second and fourth moment. In a weak form, this intermittency is transferred to the original process. Next, we consider the first interface model in Chapter 3, where we study the influence of a small-amplitude random field on an isotropic perimeter functional. Again, we consider a critical setting with a white noise-type field in two space dimensions. In the presence of an ultra-violet regularization, we establish a large-scale regularity theory for local minimizers. More specifically, we show that the averaged normal of any minimizing surface admits a well-controlled modulus of continuity. This shows that typically minimizing surfaces are flat on exponentially large length scales when the amplitude of the noise vanishes. Lastly, in Chapter 4, we consider an Allen-Cahn model for diffuse interfaces of width epsilon with microscopic heterogeneities on some length scale delta. We distinguish two regimes. In what we call the homogenization regime, we establish a criterion on the relation between the scales epsilon and delta that ensures that in the joint limit epsilon, delta to zero the homogenization limit delta to zero happens before the sharp-interface limit epsilon to zero. In the so-called rare events regime, we show the sharpness of the previously mentioned criterion in case of an one-dimensional random checkerboard by determining the extremal behavior and the transition layer towards the homogenization regime

Bilanzierung des Klimaschutzpotenzials von Abfallvermeidung durch regionale Wiederverwendungs-Plattformen am Beispiel der „Zündstoffe Materialvermittlung Dresden“

    No full text
Firstly, the basics of how waste prevention is legally regulated and influenced, what role it plays and can play in the circular economy, which actors are significantly involved in and responsible for waste prevention through reuse, what opportunities and challenges arise for the actors involved and what possibilities exist to make waste prevention measurable. The methodology chosen for balancing the material flows and climate impact was then presented and the results presented, analysed and discussed. The reuse platforms considered in this paper are local actors in society that have emerged from a grassroots movement and whose actions promote an improvement in the circular economy in their area of activity. They do this by directly brokering or storing redundant products or materials from various stakeholders and acting as intermediaries when new users are found. This prevents products from being disposed of prematurely, extends their life cycle and avoids the purchase of new products by the users of used products. The research conducted as part of this work has shown that quite different methods are used in the scientific literature to assess the climate protection potential of such activities. Often, the end-of-life phase and the emissions that reuse platforms cause during their activities are not included in the assessment of the products. These are two gaps that this study attempts to close by applying a holistic methodology. The Global Warming Potential in 100 years (GWP100) in kg CO2e was chosen as the unit for visualising the climate protection potential. This holistic methodology is illustrated by the case study of the reuse organisation Zündstoffe Materialvermittlung Dresden (ZUMADD), which was conducted as part of the Dresden City of the Future project (2019–2022). The results of the analysis show that 6,213 kg of residual material was accepted over the course of the two-year case study (survey period 01. October 2019–30. September 2021), of which 3,132 kg was passed on to stakeholders. The rest remained in the material storage. The 'wood' category accounted for 46 % (1,453 kg) of the material brokered. Based on the methodology developed, it was calculated that 13,310 kg of CO2e emissions could be avoided through these activities. At the same time, ZUMADD's activities caused 251 kg of CO2e emissions, resulting in a total climate protection potential of 13,059 kg of CO2e. The results show that it is possible to promote climate protection at a local level through waste prevention. Even if the savings potential is low compared to other greenhouse gas emitters from other sectors, the positive effect of activities that take place outside of municipal waste management is nevertheless emphasised. Economies of scale of the previously ideally motivated activities of the reuse platforms through improved networking with and promotion by public waste management organisations are highly likely.:Danksagung II Zusammenfassung III Abstract V Inhaltsverzeichnis VII Abbildungsverzeichnis IX Tabellenverzeichnis XI Abkürzungsverzeichnis XII 1. Entkopplung von Graphen auf SiC(0001) durch Interkalation

    No full text
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5 2.2 Graphen . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9 2.3 Epitaktisches Wachstum von Graphen auf SiC . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 14 2.4 Interkalation von Graphen auf SiC . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 17 3 Experimentelle Methoden 21 3.1 Photoelektronenspektroskopie . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 21 3.1.1 Grundlegende Aspekte . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 21 3.1.2 Bestimmung der Schichtdicke mittel XPS . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 29 3.1.3 Instrumentelle Details . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 34 3.2 Beugung niederenergetischer Elektronen . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 35 3.2.1 Grundlegende Aspekte . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 35 3.2.2 Instrumentelle Details . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 37 3.3 Probenpäparation . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 39 4 Beschreibung einer Pufferschicht 41 4.1 XPS an Pufferschichtproben . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 41 4.2 LEED an Pufferschichtproben . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 43 5 Entkopplung einer Pufferschicht mit Schwefel 45 5.1 Schwefelinterkalation mit Pyrit . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 46 5.2 Teilinterkalation von Pufferschichtproben mit Schwefel . . . . . . . . . . 52 5.3 Anlassen einer teilinterkalierten Probe im UHV . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 56 5.4 Zusammenfassung . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 59 6 Entkopplung einer Pufferschicht durch Seleninterkalation 61 6.1 Seleninterkalation mit Zinndiselenid . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 61 6.2 Teilinterkalation einer Pufferschicht mit Selen . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 67 6.3 Anlassen einer teilinterkalierten Probe im UHV . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 71 6.4 Zusammenfassung . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 80 7 Entkopplung einer Pufferschicht durch Bismutinterkalation 83 7.1 Zwei-Schritte-Verfahren in Argonatmosphäre . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 83 7.2 Reduktion des Bismutoxids durch Anlassen im UHV . . . . . . . . . . . . 95 7.3 Interkalation mit Bismut durch Anlassen im UHV . . . . . . . . . . . . . 101 7.4 Strukturelle Transformation der interkalierten Bi-Lage . . . . . . . . . . 110 7.5 Übergang von der α- zur β-Phase . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 124 7.6 Zusammenfassung . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 126 8 Zusammenfassung und Ausblick 129 A Anhang zur Schwefelinterkalation 133 B Anhang zur Seleninterkalation 137 C Anhang zur Bismutinterkalation 141 Literaturverzeichnis 151 Abkürzungsverzeichnis 163 Danksagung 165 Selbstständigkeitserklärung 167 Vollständige Publikationsliste 169 Konferenzbeiträge 171Graphene, a single layer of carbon atoms, was the first of its kind to provide a starting point for research into two-dimensional materials. Epitaxial growth of graphene on SiC is a method for growing scalable and high quality films. The electronic properties of graphene are of particular interest. The intercalation of different materials, i.e. the transport of certain atoms to the graphene/SiC interface, is a way to manipulate the electronic properties of a graphene layer and also to create otherwise unstable structures of the intercalant. This work involves the development of methods to intercalate the elements sulfur, selenium or bismuth and the characterisation of the resulting layer systems using various surface sensitive measurement techniques. The successful intercalation of the specific species is demonstrated and the effect of the intercalant on the graphene layer is investigated by photoelectron spectroscopy. Furthermore, the structural arrangement of the intercalated atoms is studied by electron diffraction experiments. The intercalation of sulfur takes place in a two-zone furnace and results in a hole-doped graphene layer. Partially intercalated samples show residual, non-intercalated sulfur on the sample surface, which appears to be in a transition state prior to intercalation. Subsequent annealing of these samples in ultra-high vacuum at higher temperatures transports these sulfur atoms to the interface on the substrate, resulting in complete intercalation of the sample. The two-zone furnace is also used for selenium intercalation and hole doping of the graphene is observed. Similar to sulfur intercalation, partially intercalated samples show selenium remaining on the sample surface. However, subsequent annealing of these samples in vacuum does not increase the degree of intercalation, as the non-intercalated selenium atoms desorb from the sample surface at these temperatures. Finally, bismuth intercalation experiments are demonstrated. Bismuth is first evaporated on top of the sample. Subsequent annealing in an argon atmosphere at atmospheric pressure results in the intercalation of metallic and oxidised bismuth. Otherwise, if the intercalation process is carried out by annealing in vacuum, only metallic bismuth appears at the graphene/SiC interface. Depending on the amount of intercalated bismuth, these atoms are arranged in a (1 × 1)- or (√3 × √3)-periodicity. The former produces an electron-doped graphene layer, while the latter produces hole-doped graphene. The results demonstrate the different influence of the intercalant on graphene. Furthermore, they pave the way to intercalate more than one element and create, e.g., transition metal dichalcogenides (such as MoS2, WSe2, ...) or materials such as Bi2Se3 at the graphene/SiC-interface.:1 Einleitung 1 2 Grundlagen 5 2.1 Siliziumkarbid . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5 2.2 Graphen . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9 2.3 Epitaktisches Wachstum von Graphen auf SiC . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 14 2.4 Interkalation von Graphen auf SiC . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 17 3 Experimentelle Methoden 21 3.1 Photoelektronenspektroskopie . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 21 3.1.1 Grundlegende Aspekte . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 21 3.1.2 Bestimmung der Schichtdicke mittel XPS . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 29 3.1.3 Instrumentelle Details . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 34 3.2 Beugung niederenergetischer Elektronen . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 35 3.2.1 Grundlegende Aspekte . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 35 3.2.2 Instrumentelle Details . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 37 3.3 Probenpäparation . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 39 4 Beschreibung einer Pufferschicht 41 4.1 XPS an Pufferschichtproben . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 41 4.2 LEED an Pufferschichtproben . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 43 5 Entkopplung einer Pufferschicht mit Schwefel 45 5.1 Schwefelinterkalation mit Pyrit . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 46 5.2 Teilinterkalation von Pufferschichtproben mit Schwefel . . . . . . . . . . 52 5.3 Anlassen einer teilinterkalierten Probe im UHV . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 56 5.4 Zusammenfassung . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 59 6 Entkopplung einer Pufferschicht durch Seleninterkalation 61 6.1 Seleninterkalation mit Zinndiselenid . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 61 6.2 Teilinterkalation einer Pufferschicht mit Selen . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 67 6.3 Anlassen einer teilinterkalierten Probe im UHV . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 71 6.4 Zusammenfassung . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 80 7 Entkopplung einer Pufferschicht durch Bismutinterkalation 83 7.1 Zwei-Schritte-Verfahren in Argonatmosphäre . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 83 7.2 Reduktion des Bismutoxids durch Anlassen im UHV . . . . . . . . . . . . 95 7.3 Interkalation mit Bismut durch Anlassen im UHV . . . . . . . . . . . . . 101 7.4 Strukturelle Transformation der interkalierten Bi-Lage . . . . . . . . . . 110 7.5 Übergang von der α- zur β-Phase . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 124 7.6 Zusammenfassung . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 126 8 Zusammenfassung und Ausblick 129 A Anhang zur Schwefelinterkalation 133 B Anhang zur Seleninterkalation 137 C Anhang zur Bismutinterkalation 141 Literaturverzeichnis 151 Abkürzungsverzeichnis 163 Danksagung 165 Selbstständigkeitserklärung 167 Vollständige Publikationsliste 169 Konferenzbeiträge 17
