One book and two authors. Who wrote the historia de la República Oriental del Uruguay?

    No full text
Abstract: The purpose of this article is to question the authorship of one of the fundamental books by nationalist historian Juan E. Pivel Devoto, titled *Historia de la República Oriental del Uruguay* (1945), supposedly written in collaboration with his wife, Alcira Ranieri. Throughout the essay, the concept of authorship is problematized through a qualitative study. To achieve this, a draft written by Ranieri in 1943 is used as a basis, and a comparison is made with the various publications by the Uruguayan historian, both before and after the mentioned work

The 'Princess Effect' in the Armed Forces: analysis of media visibility with Google Trends

Princess Leonor has garnered significant media interest since her birth. Her popularity has been driven by both traditional and digital media, especially upon reaching adulthood, that coincides with the beginning of her military training. News about the princess is abundant and diverse, covering almost all her official and unofficial engagements. In particular, her current military training is especially appealing from a media perspective, not only due to its institutional significance as the future Queen of Spain and supreme commander of the Armed Forces but also because of the novel image of a military princess. This study examines whether the media relevance of Princess Leonor’s incorporation into the army influences the visibility of an institution as traditional as the Spanish Armed Forces. The methodology is based on data analysis using the Google Trends tool from January 2023 to July 2024. The results show a positive correlation between search trends for the term ‘Princess Leonor’ and those related to the Armed Forces. In other words, when interest in the princess rises, searches for military-related terms also increase. This correlation is particularly significant during her military training period. Thus, the initial hypothesis is confirmed through the so-called ‘Princess Effect’, which we define as the visibility gained by the Armed Forces due to the media impact generated by Princess Leonor’s military training on her path to becoming Captain General of the Armed Forces.

Cytoskeleton proteins, the structural basis of T-lymphocyte and TEC restructure during rapid thymus regeneration

    No full text
Thymus regeneration is the main way for humans to combat immune degeneration and immunosenescence. The interesting cycle of thymus degeneration and regeneration achieves the renewal of adaptive immunity, which is crucial for reconstructing cellular immunity. Rapid thymic regeneration is the main renewal mode after various acute stress-induced thymic involutions, such as radiation, immunosuppressants, and starvation. The cytoskeleton is a key regulator of immune response by affecting the structure and function of immune cells. Our team has conducted years of research on rapid thymic regeneration and found that some types of cytoskeletal proteins, such as F-actin/G-actin, the Thymosin β family, ERM (Ezrin/Radixin/ Moesin), and WAVE2, play a critical role in the spatial development of thymic epithelial cells (TECs), and finally regulate the regeneration of the thymus by modulating the skeleton of TECs and T lymphocytes. Here, we summarize the current understanding of cytoskeleton proteins and cell restructure of TECs or T lymphocytes and its relationship with the regeneration of the thymus

Analysis of teacher training plans in Spanish public universities. What is meant by quality?

    No full text
With the implementation of the European Higher Education Area, Spanish universities have developed structured and organized training plans to promote professional improvement and the enrichment of teaching-learning processes. This issue is also affected bythe Organic Law 2/2023, of 22 March, on the University System (LOSU). Based on the previous ideas, this study aims to identify the proposed perspective by Spanish public universities and what is meant by quality university teaching within the framework oftheir training plans. To this end, a descriptive study of the training plans of seventeen Spanish universities was carried out, identifying the presence-absence of structural elements through the statistics calculation, specially, frequencies and averages. Subsequently, a content analysis of these elements was carried out in five of these universities. The obtained results show a lack of contextualisation of the plans; a deficient needs specific analysis; an absence of impact assessment and of the trainingplan itself; as well as a training offer with modalities which, in general, are aligned with a sum of generic courses. In conclusion, it is highlighted that the quality of teachers' functions is linked to efficiency and improvement, but the meaning of thequality term and the steps towards how to get this goal are not delimited

From the pibe to the myth: cinematic narratives on Diego Armando Maradona.

    No full text
Abstract: This article analyzes the cultural construction of the myth of Diego Armando Maradona through his cinematic representation. Starting from the relationship between football and national identity in Latin America, and particularly in Argentina, it explores how this sport became a device of social cohesion, a symbolic space of upward mobility, and a central element in the configuration of argentinidad. The figure of the pibe de potrero, embodied in Maradona, synthesizes these dimensions, to which a marked heroic-religious projection is added. The film corpus examined consists of five feature films: Maradona, Un gamin en or (Jean-Christophe Rosé, 2006), El camino de San Diego (Carlos Sorín, 2006), Maradona, la mano de Dios (Marco Risi, 2007), Maradona by Kusturica (Emir Kusturica, 2008) and Fue la mano de Dios (Paolo Sorrentino, 2021). The comparative analysis shows how cinema, through narrative and audiovisual resources, reinforces, reinterprets, or sacralizes the figure of Maradona in the collective imagination

Given its potential for personalized healthcare and education, single case designs(SCDs) (1-4) – in which the same cases are measured repeatedly on the same outcome(s) ofinterest – has enjoyed increasing interest over time. In a publication in Volume 3 of thisjournal (5), three key statistical methods for SCDs are compared and contrasted:randomization tests (4), the Bayesian percentage of all non-overlapping data or PAND-B (5),and a time series regression (TSR) method (5). Although PAND-B is the only of thesemethods that allows for the incorporation of knowledge from theory or previous researchand does not require frequently violated assumptions that invalidate TSR (5), recent work(6) demonstrates that PAND-B does not fully account for order information in ordinal orquantitative outcomes (e.g., ‘3’ is not only different from ‘1’ or ‘2’; ‘3’ is also higher than ‘2’,and ‘2’ is higher than ‘1’) and returns invalid estimates when the two conditions comparedhave unequal sample sizes. To address these shortcomings while retaining the benefits ofbeing useful for all levels of measurement including nominal (e.g., different shoe colors orqualitatively different emotions that cannot undisputedly be categorized on a dimensionlike ‘better’ or ‘worse’) and incorporating knowledge from theory or previous research, ageneralized relative effect (GRE) statistic was developed (6), which is based on Brunner-Munzel’s relative effect (RE) statistic (7). Although the GRE introductory paper provides astep-by-step tutorial for how to obtain GRE point and interval estimates with basic R (8)code and interpret the outcomes, that paper focuses on two larger samples of participants. Therefore, the remainder of this paper uses the data from the aforementioned publicationin Volume 3 of this journal (5) to provide an example of GRE in a single context

    No full text
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of structured physiotherapy program in reducing pain intensity (PI), and in improving functional disability (FD), and functional mobility (FM) in individuals with chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNSLBP). This was a prospective cohort study with an interventional design encompassing 47 outpatients with CNSLBP aged 18-64 (48.0±12.6), comprising 15 males and 38 females. A six-week structured physical therapy program included a two-week (5x/ week) supervised physiotherapy regimen, followed by a four-week home exercise programme (HBE) encompassing stretching, endurance, strengthening and aerobic exercises. PI, FD, and FM were assessed using a numerical rating scale (NRS), the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and a 30-second sit-to-stand test (30STS) respectively. NRS scores showed a significant decrease from baseline (5.93±2.95) to six weeks (2.68±1.68) after physiotherapy intervention (p<0.05). ODI scores significantly decreased from 16.36±5.70 to 7.39±5.02 (p<0.05) indicating an improvement in FD. The 30STS test reviled a significant enhancement following the two-week physiotherapy intervention (t=3.225, p=0.002). Our study showed a significant reduction in PI and an improvement in FD and FM after a two-week physiotherapy intervention. In addition, the four-week HBE program contributes to continuous improvement in PI and FD, highlighting its effectiveness in supporting and increasing the profits of the supervised phase

Rethinking Old Age and Masculinity: Impact on the Re-Spatialization of Life and Research during the COVID-19 Period in Spain

    No full text
The COVID-19 pandemic and experiencing confinement resignified spaces of life and research. This experience did not affect men and women or the youth and older people in the same way. In recent years, the pandemic’s exacerbation of gender inequality and its harmful effect on the elderly have been extensively studied. However, few studies have focused on how it has impacted older men specifically, and even fewer have looked into the variations in the way they perceive their masculinity and inhabit (gendered) spaces. This paper aims to analyses that impact and those variations, as well as the research limitations that came to light in the investigation process of this study, which was also affected by restrictions imposed during the pandemic. We managed to conduct interviews and focus groups with men over 60 years old from different social backgrounds and sexual orientation to study their thoughts and beliefs about masculinity and ageing by taking into account how the re-spatialization of the participant’s lives and of the research during the pandemic transformed both the (self-)perception of masculinity and of ageing, as well as the process and results of our investigation
