    No full text
A user-optimized information provision for order pickers systems using smart glasses is often discussed in the current research discussion as well as at exhibitions and conferences. Whether an augmented reality-based order picking system is suitable for use in the field of food retail logistics is examined by an utility analysis. The 1:1 comparison between Pick-by-Vioce and Pick-by-Vision shows a higher benefit of Pick-by-Vision picking system

Open Science and Public Sector Information – Reconsidering the exemption for educational and research establishments under the Directive on re-use of public sector information

    No full text
The article discusses the possibilities of including public research and educational establishments within the scope of the Directive regulating the re-use of public sector information (2003/98/EC – ‘PSI Directive’). It subsequently evaluates the legal consequences of such an inclusion. Focusing on scientific information, the analysis connects the long-standing debates about open access and open educa-tion to open government data. Their common driving force is the call for a wide-spread dissemination of publicly funded information. However, the regulatory standard set out by the PSI Directive is characterized by considerable legal uncer-tainty. Therefore, it is difficult to derive robust assumptions that can form the ba-sis for predicting the effects of extending the PSI Directive’s scope to research in-formation. A potential revision of the PSI Directive should reduce this uncertain-ty. Moreover, PSI regulation must account for the specific incentives linked to the creation and dissemination of research results. This seems of primary importance for public-private research collaborations because there is a potential risk that a full application of the PSI Directive might unduly affect incentives for such col-laborations

Adaptive line feeding – a new planning approach for line feeding processes in changeable production systems

    No full text
Due to the increasing importance of individualised production processes, assembly processes are subject of rapid change. The German automotive industry, for instance, perceived variations in volume of about 50 percent between 1991 and 2007. In order to cope with such challenges, production systems require adequate changeability. Changeability characterises the ability of a system to anticipate internal as well as external changes, to take preventive measures and to react to unforeseen or random events, respectively. To guarantee the required changeability of a production system as well of its corresponding logistics subsystems it appears necessary to regularly evaluate required change measures. For this purpose, the Chair of Production Organisation and Logistics developed an approach for adaptive line feeding which is geared to adjust line feeding processes based on perceived or anticipated changes within production systems

At the Institute of Machine Elements and Technical Logistics research is being carried out on grippers for logistics and picking systems. This year (2018), MTL took part in LogiMAT as an exhibitor. Among other things, the gripper construction kit was exhibited with exemplary configured grippers. To illustrate the performance of the grippers, a demonstrator was built. This is an interactive booth where fair visitors can freely position the objects to be gripped on the designated area. The objects to be gripped are recorded and measured by a camera system. Depending on the geometric shape of the detected objects and the gripper attached to the robot arm, if necessary, an automatic gripper change is carried out before the objects are gripped in sequence and deposited in a storage container. This text describes the structure and operation of the demonstrator

Vibration model to describe the dynamic behaviour of lattice boom mobile cranes and loader cranes

According to the valid European standards the stress calculation of lattice boom mobile cranes and loader cranes follows quasi-static calculations. Several research projects have shown, that the dynamic behaviour of cranes is described only approximately by the current standards of calculation. The dynamic effects can be characterized more accurately with a newly developed vibration model. This paper assesses the applicability of the vibration model for the process ‘slewing’ for a representative choice of cranes with various set-ups and different boom positions. ibration model to describe the dynamic behaviour of lattice boom mobile cranes and loader crane

For factory planning projects the layout capturing and layout processing process need a huge amount of effort, because they are typically done by hand. These processes could be accelerated and optimized by using a drone and automated analysis algorithms. Furthermore, this article shows a way to raise the digitization level for industrial processes. The key aspect lies on the usage of a drone in indoor environment and the processing of three-dimensional point cloud models for factory planning processes
