No full textEin neuer Ansatz für den innerbetrieblichen Warentransport in Form eines schienengebundenen Hochge-schwindigkeitsfördersystems wird präsentiert. Zur Reduzierung der Schienenkosten wurde eine Schiene aus handelsüblichen Walzstahlträgern entworfen, was jedoch signifikante Schwankungen der Spurweite über den Streckenverlauf zur Folge hat. Die konstruktive Umsetzung eines adaptiven Fahrwerks zum Ausgleich dieser Schwankungen wird in diesem Beitrag vorgestellt.A novel approach for the internal transport of goods in form of a rail-bound high speed conveyor system is presented. For cost reduction, a rail made of commercially available rolled steel girders was developed, however, this causes significant deviations in track gauge over the length of the route. The constructive implementation of an adaptive running gear to compensate these fluctuations is presented in this paper
Responsible Information Sharing Converging boundaries between private and public in privacy and copyright law
No full textCopyright Law and Privacy Law both grant individuals exclusive control over the dissemination of expression or personal information, respectively. A number of criteria emerged in the ‘new public’ jurisprudence of the CJEU based on Article 3 Directive 2001/29/EC (InfoSoc Directive), that determine how right holders can retain control over copyright-protected works after their first publication. The Court established that the scope of a public in copyright law depends, among other factors, on the subjective intention of the person who exposes a work to an audience. The case law suggests that several ‘publics’ coexist, and that the exposure of works to one of these ‘publics’, does not automatically justify exposure to other public spheres. The exposure of these works to other ‘publics’, still remains under the control of the right holder. The paper suggests that the notion of a “new public” can be instrumental in better understanding the delimitation of public and private space in EU privacy law. The authors propose a concept of privacy as controlled public exposure, modelled on the notion of a “new public” under Article 3 of the Information Society Directive, and inspired by recent jurisprudence of the ECtHR on Article 8 ECHR, which protects the right to respect for private life. This, the authors argue, leads to an expansion of private spheres in public life
In-Class Formative Assessment in an Introductory Calculus Class
No full textWe report on the usage of an audience response system ("clickers") in an introductory math course, both in terms of practical usage and in terms of answer distributions, test-theoretical properties and clustering of questions. We give examples of the questions ("items") that we used and their associated properties. We found the system to deliver meaningful and reliable results regarding the conceptual learning of the students, and we found these benefits to be robust independent of the particulars of the instructional setting. Finally we found that peer instruction can make clicker usage even more meaningful, as the discrimination of questions increases after discussions between learners
Bulk material calibration for the calculation of thermo-mechanical loads in packed-bed thermal energy storages
No full textUm für die DEM-Simulation das Schüttgutverhalten richtig abbilden zu können, ist eine Kalibrierung der Schüttgutparameter notwendig. Als Kalibrier-Methode kommt der Draw-Down-Versuch zur Anwendung, der den Wert für die Haft- und Rollreibung der Partikel liefert. Rutsch- und Rollversuche liefern die weiteren Materialkennwerte. Um die Spannungen in der Schüttung und zwischen Schüttung und Behälterwand ermitteln zu können, wird der E-Modul der Schüttung benötigt. Zu dessen exakter Bestimmung wurde ein Druckversuch mit Schüttgut in einem Behälter durchgeführt und mit einer DEM-Simulation verglichen. Das vorliegende Paper beschreibt einen vollständigen Prozess zur Ermittlung sämtlicher Parameter, die für die Spannungsberechnung erforderlich sind.In order to be able to represent the bulk material behaviour correctly for the DEM simulation, a calibration of the bulk material parameters is necessary. The draw down test is used as the calibration method, which provides the value for the static and rolling friction of the particles. Slip and roll tests provided the other material parameters. In order to determine the stresses in the bulk material and between bulk material and container wall, the young’s modulus of the bulk material is required. For its exact determination a pressure test with bulk material in a container was performed which was compared with a DEM simulation. This paper describes a complete process for determining all parameters required for stress calculation
The Quality of Law: How the European Court of Human Rights gradually became a European Constitutional Court for privacy cases
No full textUntil very recently, the European Court of Human Rights was willing to assess whether Member States’ executive branch had operated on a legal basis, whether national courts had struck a fair balance when adjudicating cases, and whether Member States had a positive obligation to ensure adequate protection of citizens’ human rights. One thing it did not, assess however, and that was scrutinising laws and policies as such, assessing whether Member States’ legislative branch had respected the principles of the rule of law and the minimum requirements of good law-making. That is, until recently. Propelled by cases revolving around mass surveillance activities, in just a couple small number of years, the Court has undergone a revolutionary transformation and now formally assesses the quality of Member States’ laws and even advises Member States’ legislative branch on how to amend its legal system in order to be Convention-compliant. Doing so, it has gradually turned into a European Constitutional Court, in particular for privacy cases

No full textVorgestellt wird ein ultraleichter, hochbelastbarer, flexibel einsatzfähiger Boden in einer Sandwich-verbundbauweise mit einem integrierten Zugankersys-tem unter Anwendung nachwachsender Rohstoffe. Je nach zukünftiger Belastung werden die Decklagen des Sandwichverbundes durch innenliegende Zuganker definiert unter Druck vorgespannt, wodurch eine Steifigkeitserhöhung erzielt wird. Somit können Spannweiten von bis zu drei Meter erreicht werden. Durch diesen Aufbau können - bezogen auf das Eigengewicht - verhältnismäßig große Lasten aufgenommen werden. Durch den infachen Aufbau sind die Einsatzgebiete vielseitig. So kann der Boden für eine Flexibilitätssteigerung in Unternehmen beitragen, sodass z. B. durch eine Art Gerüst eine zweite geschlossene Ebene zur Erweiterung von begehbaren Lagerflächen realisiert werden kann.A light, heavy-duty, flexibly usable shelf is presented in a sandwich composite construction using renewable raw materials. Integrated is a tie rod system. Depending on the future load, the top layers of the sandwich composite are prestressed by pressure via the internal tie rods, which increases the stiffness. Spans of up to three meters can be achieved. With this structure, rel-atively large loads can be absorbed in relation to the dead weight. The areas of application are versatile due to the simple structure. So the shelf can contribute to increasing flexibility in companies, so that e. g. a kind of scaffolding can be used to create a second level to expand accessible storage areas

Die Integration des International Data Spaces (IDS) in DE4L ist durch die Herausforderungen diverser Datenerzeugungsgeschwindigkeiten in Internet der Dinge Anwendungen und der Heterogenität von IDS-Konsumenten beeinflusst. Um beide Herausforderun-gen in einem bestehenden IDS-Konnektor für Sensordaten zu berücksichtigen, erweitert dieser Beitrag diesen IDS-Konnektor um die Verwendung von Nachrichtenverteilern und Anwendungscontainern. Ergänzt um diese beiden Konzepte kann eine prototypische Erweiterung des IDS-Konnektors auf beide Herausforderun-gen adaptiv reagieren.The DE4L platform is designed to enable data-centric business models for CEP service providers. The integration of the International Data Space (IDS) in DE4L is influenced by the challenges of various data generation speeds in Internet of things applications and the heterogeneity of IDS consumers. To address both challenges in an existing IDS connector for sensor data, this article extends this IDS connector to include the use of message distributors and application con-tainers. Complemented by these two concepts, a prototypical extension of the IDS connector can respond adaptively to both challenge
