Combined Factor VII and X Deficiency
Factor VII deficiency and factor X deficiency and very rare disorders individually. Combined Factor VII and X is a rare congenital blood disorder with very few cases reported in the literature. We report a case of 7 years old male child who presented to us as a diagnosed case of factor 7 deficiency with recurrent epistaxis
Teleosemantics and Productivity
There has been much discussion of so-called teleosemantic approaches to the naturalisation of content. Such discussion, though, has been largely confined to simple, innate mental states with contents such as There is a fly here. Even assuming we can solve the issues that crop up at this stage, an account of the content of human mental states will not get too far without an account of productivity: the ability to entertain indefinitely many thoughts. \ud
The best-known teleosemantic theory, Millikan’s biosemantics, offers an account of productivity in thought. This paper raises a basic worry about this account: that the use of mapping functions in the theory is unacceptable from a naturalistic point of view
Antioxidant activity of aqueous extract of Monascus fermented Indian variety of rice in high cholesterol diet fed-Streptozotocin diabetic rats, an in vivo study
The present study was designed to investigate antioxidant activity of aqueous extract of Monascus fermented Indian variety of rice in high cholesterol diet fed- streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats. The Indian variety rice IR-532-E-576 was fermented with Monascus purpureus for 10 days and sterilized. High cholesterol fed-STZ-induced diabetic rats received aqueous extract of Monascus fermented Indian variety of rice at the concentration of 1.2 g / Kg of bw and 2.4 g / Kg bw daily for 30 days. The oxidative parameters like lipid peroxidation (LPO), reduced glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase activities were assessed.High cholesterol diet and STZ increased the level of LPO and reduced the level of SOD, GSH and catalase, where as on administration of aqueous extract of Monascus fermented Indian variety of rice reduced the level of LPO to almost normal and increased the levels of GSH, SOD and catalase dose dependently. The present study concluded that consumption of Monascus fermented rice can be good dietary supplement for diabetes and hyperlipidemia
Study of Histamine Forming Bacteria in Commercial fish samples of Kalyan city
Histamine food poisoning is found to be associated with consumption of scombroid fish containing unusually high levels of histamine. Fish belonging to non-scombroid group may also cause histamine poisoning. In this study, histamine forming bacteria in the commercial fish samples of local markets of Kalyan region were investigated. Among 54 isolates 24 were found to be prominent histamine producers. A simple and rapid colorimetric method for the quantification of histamine in fish was used. Histamine level in fresh mackerel samples was found to be around 20 mg/100 g, which was much above the defect action level (5 mg/100 g) given by FDA indicating potential risk for histamine poisoning. The study suggest that practice of more hygienic and sanitary conditions during handling and processing of fish are required to minimize the contamination of such histamine producing bacteri
Assessment of janani suraksha yojana (JSY) –in jabalpur, madhya pradesh: knowledge, attitude and utilization pattern of beneficiaries: a descriptive study
Aims & objectives: Janani-Suraksha-Yojana (JSY) scheme was launched in India in 2005 with the objective of reducing maternal mortality by promoting institutional deliveries. The main objectives of our study were, to assess the social profile, knowledge, attitude and utilization pattern of JSY beneficiaries. Setting & design: it was a descriptive study. Materials & methods: In the present study was conducted in N.S.C.B. Medical College, Jabalpur (M.P. - India) during 2006 -07 with a sample size of 300 beneficiaries. Statistical analysis: Percentages. Results & conclusion: 77.66% belonged to below poverty line (BPL) category. 67 % of the respondents arranged their own / hired vehicle for transportation for delivery. Only 17.33 % were motivated by ANM /Dai/ ASHA/ AWW for institutional delivery. Decision of expenditure depends upon husband in one third of cases. (Majority of beneficiary mothers were in favour of cash payment (94.33%). The arrangement of vehicle for transport is still a major issue of concern. In many cases the husbands decides the purpose for which money is to be used
The combinational effect of cardiac and biochemical markers in diabetic patients with cardiovascular disease
Background: Clinicopathological correlations, as well as several angiographic studies, suggest that diabetic patients have more extensive atherosclerotic disease, affecting the coronary arteries in particular. We sought to examine the combinational effect of cardiac and biochemical markers in diabetic patients with cardiovascular disease.\ud
Method: The study population constituted 50 healthy subjects, 50 cardiovascular subjects with diabetes and 50 cardiovascular subjects without diabetes. The population was subjected to biochemical and cardiac marker analysis and the results were verified.\ud
Results and discussion: Studies suggest that glycated hemoglobin values in the abnormal range can identify persons at increased risk for coronary heart disease, stroke, and death before the diagnosis of diabetes, indicating that glycated hemoglobin is a useful marker of cardiovascular risk and death from any cause.\u
Cholecystitis & An Enzyme Study
Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder that develops in short time usually when gallstone obstructs the cystic duct. Patients over the passage of time land to chronic cholecystitis. They have an abnormal liver function test with clinical features suggestive of gall bladder disease. Therefore, systematic step by step reviews of various investigations are important in diagnosis of gall bladder disease. The first step includes clinical evaluation of the patient followed by estimation of enzyme markers.. The seriousness of disease can be estimated from combined information of clinical examination & specialized biochemical tests. Specialized enzymatic markers are helpful for proper follow-up as delay can be devastating. It can form a platform for malignant & cirrhotic changes of liver: Present study has been undertaken to avoid dreads by simple clinical enzyme study. Serum levels of 5’NT/ALP/AST/ALT/Bilirubin were estimated in sixty cases of clinically diagnosed cholecystitis against forty normal individuals. Purpose was to single out a parameter which is most significant & may help as an endoscope to \ud
Surgeon for timely intervention. The study delineates5’NT to be superior to ALP due to its specificity &. Sensitivity. While elevated AST & ALT levels signify extent of hepatic cell damage, 5”NT specifically signifies the bile duct obstruction or cholestasis as well as hepatic cell damage. \u
Modulation of DMBA- induced biochemical and histopathological changes by Syzygium cumini seed extract during skin carcinogenesis
Aim & Method: The current study was designed to elucidate the protective effect of Syzygium cumini seed extract (SCE) on skin carcinogenesis induced by a single topical application of 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (100 μg/100 μl of acetone) and 2 weeks later promoted by repeated application of croton oil (1% in acetone/three times a week) till the end of the experiment (16 weeks). Result: Oral administration of SCE at a dose of 125 mg/kg b.wt./day for 15 days at the peri-initiational stage (i.e., 7 days before & 7 days after DMBA application) and for 14 weeks at the promotional stage (i.e., from the time of croton oil application), revealed a significant reduction in lipid peroxidation (p<0.05-0.001) along with an elevation in the activities of enzymatic antioxidants (superoxide dismutase, p<0.05-0.001 & catalase, p<0.05-0.001), non-enzymatic antioxidant (reduced glutathione, p<0.05-0.01 & vitamin-C, p<0.01-0.001) and total proteins levels (p<0.01-0.001) when compared to the carcinogen treated control animals. Histopathological study revealed that dyskeratosis of the epidermis, deposition of keratinous pearl and epidermal hyperplasia in skin tumors of DMBA treated control and the same were found to be of lesser degree in both the SCE treated experimental animals. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that SCE ameliorate the DMBA/croton oil induced adverse biochemical and histopathological alterations during skin carcinogenesis in mice
Happiness: Between What We Want and What We Need
The paper presents a very simple toy model that is simulated to experience some aspects related to what is it people want and need when related to the social happiness. By outlining some short discussions related to the distinguishing of what we call “want” and “need”, we see how both micro-social aspects may emerge the happiness as well as the urge to innovate and affinity to the collective creativity and social progress
Intelligent Self-Repairable Web Wrappers
The amount of information available on the Web grows at an incredible high rate. Systems and procedures devised to extract these data from Web sources already exist, and different approaches and techniques have been investigated during the last years. On the one hand, reliable solutions should provide robust algorithms of Web data mining which could automatically face possible malfunctioning or failures. On the other, in literature there is a lack of solutions about the maintenance of these systems. Procedures that extract Web data may be strictly interconnected with the structure of the data source itself; thus, malfunctioning or acquisition of corrupted data could be caused, for example, by structural modifications of data sources brought by their owners. Nowadays, verification of data integrity and maintenance are mostly manually managed, in order to ensure that these systems work correctly and reliably. In this paper we propose a novel approach to create procedures able to extract data from Web sources -- the so called Web wrappers -- which can face possible malfunctioning caused by modifications of the structure of the data source, and can automatically repair themselves.\u
