Two-timescales optimization of content placement and delivery in satellite-terrestrial Edge computing networks
In this paper, we establish a two-timescale framework for the joint optimization for the content placement and content delivery problem in satellite-terrestrial edge computing networks (STECN). Our goal is to optimize content placement to improve network performance while ensuring diverse quality of service (QoS) for content delivery. We decouple the problem into two timescales to balance real-time responsiveness and long-term efficiency. Specifically, considering frequent content placement incurs huge traffic cost, we optimize the content placement in order to reduce resource expenses in large timescales. The optimization problem is formulated as an integer linear programming (ILP) problem to improve both traffic efficiency and cache resource utilization. We leverage a heuristic atom search optimization (ASO) approach to address the problem, which yields an optimal strategy with low computational complexity. In small timescales, we model content delivery as a Markov decision process (MDP) to minimize content delivery delays at small timescales while maintaining smooth network traffic. A deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework is used for policy learning to dynamically adapt to varying network conditions. By considering the correlation between the small and large timescale optimization, we propose a hierarchical solution to jointly address both issues. Finally, extensive simulations confirm the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed scheme

Class
This chapter analyses the place of class in O’Casey’s thinking and focuses in particular on a relatively unknown O’Casey script from 1919, The Harvest Festival, which revolves around a charismatic worker-hero who dies when a strike becomes violent. The chapter also examines the rewritten version of that play, Red Roses for Me (1943), in order to explore how O’Casey’s aestheticizing of class confrontation was developed and refined. The chapter shows how O’Casey wanted class analysis to replace ideologies like religion and nationalism, which he believed to be misdirections of humanity’s important longings
Shift current in two-dimensional Janus transition-metal Dichalcogenides: The role of excitons
We study the shift current in two two-dimensional (2D) Janus transition metal dichalcogenides: molybdenum diselenide (MoSSe) and tungsten diselenide (WSSe). The shift current is evaluated using a real-time approach, in which the coupling with an external field is described in terms of a dynamical Berry phase. This approach incorporates electron-hole interactions and quasiparticle band structure renormalization through an effective Hamiltonian derived from many-body perturbation theory. We find that the shift current is strongly enhanced in correspondence of C excitons. An analysis in terms of the electron-hole pairs reveals that electron and hole are localized on different atoms, and thus following an optical excitation, the center of the electron charge is shifted thus giving rise to a significant photocurrent. These results highlight the role played by excitons in the shift-current response of Janus TMDs and demonstrate that these materials are promising building blocks for future photovoltaic devices
Mnemonic structure and style in Irish proverbs
The monograph “Mnemonic Structure and Style in Irish Proverbs” by Marcas Mac Coinnigh examines why Irish proverbs endure, arguing that their longevity rests primarily on patterned linguistic form rather than on wisdom alone. It analyses the three major twentieth‑century dialect collections, distinguishing core proverbs from related subforms such as proverbial expressions, comparisons, Wellerisms, enumerative proverbs and questions. The study highlights how syntax, metaphor, personification, alliteration and rhyme interact to create a mnemonic architecture that supports recognition and transmission. In its final part, it explores the social role of proverbs through blasons populaires, showing how regional, often humorous stereotypes reflect cultural identity and literacy
