The Coffee Machine Factor: Unraveling the Significance of Knowledge Transfer in a Modern Engineering Organization

    Get PDF
This thesis explores knowledge sharing between younger and older employees in a Norwegian engineering organisation facing an aging workforce. Using a sequential mixed-methods approach, it investigates preferences to knowledge transfer. Interviews reveal that senior employees possess valuable tacit knowledge, while younger employees prefer informal tools. Survey results confirm these trends and highlight issues like time constraints and inadequate formal systems. Key findings suggest younger employees favor digital methods, while older employees lean towards formal documentation and mentorship. The thesis recommends strategies such as formal mentorship programs, improved digital knowledge systems, continuous learning promotion, and better documentation practices to enhance knowledge transfer and bridge the generational gap.Masteroppgave i administrasjon og organisasjonsvitenskapAORG350MASV-AOR

The Diptera of Panama. II. A first benchmark for the family Chironomidae

    Get PDF
The Chironomidae (Insecta: Diptera) are among a number of aquatic invertebrate groups which have received scant attention in Panama. This paper brings together information from the published literature, personal comments by colleagues, and current research to produce a first benchmark of knowledge about this dipteran family. To date, we have discovered 57 named species in 31 genera distributed among five chironomid subfamilies. In addition, 22 unassociated genera/subgenera (without identified species) are listed. The majority of the taxa recorded belong to the subfamily Chironominae (40 named species in 17 genera, plus 11 unassociated genera/subgenera). Of the 79 total number of species and unassociated taxa of the genus or subgenus rank presented in this paper, 43 are new country records for Panama.publishedVersio

Assessing the decline of snow cover and snowbeds in Finse from 1984 to 2024

    Get PDF
This study provides evidence that the vulnerable snowbed nature type in Norway is currently declining in extent. Snow cover dynamics are critical for the snowbed nature type and is sensitive to climate change. This study investigates a decline in snow cover and snowbeds in the Finse, Norway over the past 40 years. Supervised classification of satellite imagery from the past 40 years was used to quantify the changes in snow cover. An attempt to directly map snowbed areas involved supervised classifications trained on ground truth data from fieldwork conducted in the summer of 2024 at Finse. Results show a significant decline in persistent snow cover at Finse over the past forty years, with an average relative decrease of 38.4% across the months June to September. Local trends in July snow cover are showing decreases greater than or equal to 76% across the years 1984 to 2022. These findings strongly indicating a decrease in snowbed areas, and the trends underscore the vulnerability of snowbed ecosystems and highlight the need for ongoing monitoring and conservation of them.Masteroppgave i biologiBIO399MAMN-HAVSJMAMN-BI

Capturing and keeping students’ attention is a constant challenge in education, especially in foreign language classes where sustained focus is essential for learning. This master’s thesis examines which factors Norwegian high school students believe are critical for capturing, maintaining, or losing their attention in Spanish language classes. The study followed a qualitative design, conducting semi-structured group interviews with 16 Spanish II (second-year) students to explore their firsthand classroom experiences. The results highlight that having a clear purpose for each learning activity is the most influential factor in capturing and maintaining students’ attention. When each activity’s goal is clearly understood, students find more meaning in their work and engage more actively. Alongside this central factor, other positive elements were identified: the use of active and interactive teaching methods, variety in activities, a positive classroom atmosphere fostered by an enthusiastic teacher, and a balanced use of Spanish and Norwegian to support understanding. Conversely, the study identified several conditions that caused students to lose attention. These include monotony, such as reading activities with no interaction, unclear instructions or poorly defined activity goals, and overusing Spanish without adapting it to the students’ level. Such practices cause students to disengage, especially during long lessons or toward the end of the day. This study provides valuable insights for teaching Spanish as a foreign language at the high school level, especially for Spanish II classes. It offers concrete guidance on which approaches to prioritize and which to avoid in order to keep students engaged and attentive in class.

    Get PDF
The purpose of this thesis is to examine if classical texts, in the form of poetry, can be experienced as meaningful for students in lower secondary school, and if it can serve as a starting point for working with life skills. In this context, I was interested in exploring how different methods could contribute to incorporating the interdisciplinary topic of Health and life skills, and how students perceive the competence aim of "exploring and reflecting on the lives of young people" (Kunnskapsdepartementet, 2020), by working with poems written by the Norwegian poet and author Olav H. Hauge. Furthermore, I wanted to examine how they can express themselves about life skills, identity, and empathy through working with this. To find answers, I conducted interviews with five students in two rounds, both before and after working with the poems. The theoretical framework in my thesis is led by Wolfgang Iser and Louise Rosenblatt. Appleyard's theory of the development of the reader is also relevant to my study, especially in relation to young readers. Additionally, Martha C. Nussbaum will play a central role in my thesis, as her thoughts on literature and its impact on the reader align well with the concept of life skills as outlined in the curriculum. In this context, I would also like to mention Lars Laird Iversen and his book "Lykkeforskning" (2023), as it provides interesting and relevant theory for my work on life skills. The results of this study show that the youths have no problem finding meaning in lyrical texts from a different time than their own, and that these texts can be a good starting point for work on life skills as outlined in the curriculum. The collected material shows that the informants, through various didactic methods, each in their own way, master the exploration and reflection on life skills in their work with Olav H. Hauge's poems. Meanwhile, however, several of them find the concepts of Health and life skills in the curriculum, somewhat challenging to understand, and most of them struggle to see the connection to the Norwegian subject until they start working with texts. The material also shows that the students benefit from comparing the poems and their themes with other texts they have worked with in the Norwegian topic. These texts are often more complex and digital contemporary texts. I also address this comparative aspect in the discussion section, where I also question the choice of texts in the Norwegian subject.Erfaringsbasert masteroppgave i undervisning med fordypning i norskNORMAU650VID-MAUNO

Looking Antinous in The Eye: Approaching Antinous with material agency and the psychoanalytic gaze

    Get PDF
This master’s thesis explores how Greco-Roman images of Antinous acts and gazes in interactions with actors, with the perspectives of material agency and psychoanalysis. While they are different theoretical perspectives, they intersect through the idea that material objects can also gaze. Antinous died young in 130 CE, and was deified after his death and then honoured with statues, monuments and sanctuaries. By using Bruno Latour’s actor-network theory, the thesis explores Antinous’ network in antiquity through the interactions between the images of Antinous and other actors, such as religious devotees, associations to other deities, Emperor Hadrian, and early Christian writers. Jacques Lacan’s theory of the gaze is central to our exploration of the mutual gaze between Antinous and other actors, which is affected by Antinous’ sculpted eyes and his body language. Antinous is also an actor as a dream image, something which is explored through Hadrian’s dream described by Cassius Dio, Antinous’ assimilation with the god Asclepius, and different interpretations of dreams. Antinous continues to act in the modern age; for many he has become a symbol of sexuality, particularly in neo-pagan religion, and is gazed at with a desire for the unattainable past.Kunsthistorie mastergradsoppgaveKUN350MAHF-KU
