    Farm Investments of Life Insurance Companies

    Excerpts: Life insurance companies have long been an important source of farm-real-estate mortgage funds. These companies currently hold a record proportion – about 25 percent – of the total farm-real-estate mortgage debt. This report deals primarily with farm-real-estate mortgage experience and related items for life insurance companies since the beginning of 1945, with some comparisons to estimated totals for all farm real estate lenders. State and regional data and comparisons are generally confined to the years 1952 and 1953. Data pertaining to such items as principal repayments, refunded mortgages, new loans made, foreclosures, and delinquencies, although based on samples of companies that hold a major part of the total farm-real-estate debt of all life insurance companies, may be insufficient to represent all companies. But data compiled from these samples should serve adequately as general indicators of changes in importance of the various items

    Evaluation of the physiological effect of Saccharomyces boulardii a candidate for the manufacture of probiotics isolated from Garcina mangostana fruit pericarps

    This study aimed to isolate the Saccharomyces boulardii strain from Garcinia mangostana fruit from Kinshasa; to determine its thermoresistance; and finally, to determine its antagonistic effect towards Lactobacillus vaginalis and Staphylococcus aureus to determine its suitability for use as a probiotic. The results of this study show that Sacharomyces boulardii isolated from Garcinia mangostana fruit from Kinshasa is tolerant at 44°C and resistant only at 60 and 75°C. Sacharomyces boulardii isolated from Garcinia mangostana fruit in Kinshasa has no antagonistic effect on Lactobaccilus vaginalis and Staphylococcus aureus, so it lives in perfect synergy. Saccharomyces boulardii isolated from the fruit of Garcinia mangostana in Kinshasa could be a good candidate that may well contribute to the restoration of vaginal microbiota than other marketed strains. We therefore suggest that further studies on other probiotic selection criteria be carried out on the isolated strain, with a view to the scientific validation of our results

    Land and Income Mobility in Two North Indian Villages: A Note

    This paper examines household-level mobility in land ownership and incomes over a 17-year period (2006–2023) in two villages of Uttar Pradesh—Mahatwar in Ballia district and Harevli in Bijnor district—based on panel data from the Foundation for Agrarian Studies’ Project on Agrarian Relations in India. Results show that mobility in land ownership was low in both villages, reflecting persistent agrarian inequality: about three-fourths of households remained in the same landholding class. However, some landless Scheduled Caste households acquired small plots through non-agricultural earnings and remittances, while a few large landowners experienced downward mobility due to division or sale of land. Income mobility, by contrast, was higher, driven by diversification into non-farm employment and migration. The findings reveal a widening disconnect between land-based and income-based mobility, highlighting that while income growth has improved living standards, land concentration and caste-linked disadvantage remain enduring features of rural Uttar Pradesh

    European Trading Arrangements in Fruits and Vegetables

    The European Union (EU) participates in regional and preferential trading arrangements more than any other country or region. Over 70 percent of EU fruit and vegetable imports are from countries benefiting from preferential treatment for some portion of that trade. The most valuable preferences are accorded the 42 least developed countries, while 77 former colonies of EU countries also receive important preferences. The EU’s many preferential agreements create a mosaic of tariffs, quotas, and other import restrictions that vary considerably among products and among preferred partners which makes analysis impossibly complex. These agreements are an integral part of the management of EU imports by the Common Agricultural Policy. Exports from countries without preferences, including the United States, are at a disadvantage in EU market

    Research and Analysis on Anti-corrosion of Mountain Photovoltaic Brackets

    With the increasing global demand for renewable energy, solar photovoltaic power generation technology has been widely applied in China and even globally. Especially in mountainous areas, complex terrain resources are cleverly utilized in the construction of photovoltaic power stations, but this also brings severe challenges to the anti-corrosion of photovoltaic brackets. This paper focuses on the anti-corrosion technology of mountain photovoltaic brackets, and deeply explores the influence of natural factors such as mountain climate, sandstorms, and precipitation on the corrosion of photovoltaic brackets. The research results show that the key to improving anti-corrosion performance lies in the selection of bracket materials and optimization of coating processes. After comparing various anti-corrosion treatment methods such as hot-dip galvanizing, spray aluminum coating, and new anti-corrosion materials, it is found that nano coating technology exhibits excellent protective effects in corrosive environments. This study is of great significance for promoting the sustainable development of photovoltaic power generation, providing solid theoretical support and practical guidance for the anti-corrosion design of mountain photovoltaic power stations

    Koumine is an indole alkaloid monomer extracted from the Chinese herb Gelsemium elegans, which has a variety of pharmacological effects. This paper provides a comprehensive summary of the pharmacological effects and molecular mechanisms of koumine, with a particular emphasis on its mechanisms of action in the context of anticancer, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anxiolytic properties. The aim is to provide a theoretical foundation for further research and the application of koumine in clinical practice

    Discussion about Tourism Development of Agricultural Cultural Heritage in Xiajin County of Shandong Province

    [Objectives] To discuss the protection and utilization of agricultural cultural heritage in Xiajin County in the context of deep integration of culture and tourism. With the advancement of the process of revitalizing villages through culture and tourism, agricultural cultural heritage has gradually attracted wide attention from all walks of life. This paper is intended to provide new ideas and strategies for the development of local cultural tourism through in-depth analysis of agricultural cultural heritage resources in Xiajin County. [Methods] Using the method of literature research, this paper systematically sorted out the historical background, current situation and value of agricultural cultural heritage in Xiajin County. Besides, the agricultural cultural heritage resources in Xiajin County were comprehensively evaluated using the 3-3-6 evaluation method. On this basis, combined with the theory of industrial convergence and sustainable development, it came up with some specific suggestions on the tourism development of agricultural cultural heritage in Xiajin County. [Results] Through the in-depth evaluation of agricultural cultural heritage resources in Xiajin County, it is found that it has rich historical and cultural heritage and unique tourism value. However, there are still some problems in protection and utilization. In view of the problems, it recommended to attach importance to the inheritance of Xiajin agricultural cultural heritage, develop characteristic heritage tourism and improve relevant supporting facilities. [Conclusions] Deeply excavating the essence of agricultural cultural heritage in Xiajin County and organically combining it with modern tourism is an important way to realize the sustainable development of local cultural tourism. The recommendations are expected to provide reference for the development of agricultural heritage tourism in Xiajin County and other regions, and help to promote the deep integration of culture and tourism, and promote rural revitalization and cultural inheritance

    Analysis of Microbial Community Structure and Diversity in Crop Rhizosphere Soil Based on Illumina NovaSeq Sequencing Platform

    [Objectives] To make full use of crop rhizosphere microbial resources. [Methods] Illumina NovaSeq sequencing platform was used to analyze the richness and diversity of microbial community structure in rhizosphere soil of rice and maize crops in Baitu Town, Gaoyao District, Zhaoqing City. [Results] A total of 14 936 OTUs of bacteria and 1 905 OTUs of fungi were obtained from three samples of rice rhizosphere soil, and 13 437 OTUs of bacteria and 1 413 OTUs of fungi were obtained from three samples of maize rhizosphere soil. The diversity and richness of bacterial communities were higher than those of fungi. There are differences in soil bacterial and fungal communities among different crop samples. The analysis of species with bacteria difference at genus level among crop rhizosphere soil samples showed that 18 genera with significant differences were obtained from 6 samples; species analysis of fungi at the genus level showed that 3 genera with significant differences were obtained from 6 samples. [Conclusions] The research results of this paper have positive significance for the development and utilization of soil resources in Zhaoqing City and the full exploitation of rice and maize rhizosphere microbial resources
