The associations of dyadic coping strategies with caregiver’s willingness to care and burden: A weekly diary study
This weekly diary study investigated associations of weekly dyadic coping strategies with caregivers’ willingness to care and burden. Multilevel modelling was applied to assess between- and within-person associations for 24 consecutive weeks in 955 caregivers. Greater willingness to care was reported in weeks when caregivers used more collaborative (b=0.26, p<0.001) and supportive (b=0.30, p<0.001) strategies, whereas uninvolved coping was associated with lower willingness to care (b=−0.44, p<0.001). Usingcollaborative coping strategies was associated with lower weekly burden (b=−0.13, p<0.001). A greater burden was reported in weeks when caregivers used more uninvolved (b=0.19, p<0.001) and controlling (b=0.13, p<0.001) coping strategies. A full understanding of whether caregivers’ willingness to care and burden may be improved owing to weekly dyadic coping is essential for developing timely support for caregivers
What Do Supervisors’ and Supervisees’ Think About Mindfulness-Based Supervision? A Grounded Theory Study
ObjectivesMindfulness-based supervision (MBS) is a vital support for teachers of mindfulness-based programmes (MBPs), and good practice guidance requires mindfulness teachers to have at least 4 hr of MBS a year. Despite this, underpinning theory and research on MBS is sparse. This study explores the perspectives of supervisors and supervisees to identify helpful and unhelpful processes within MBS.MethodA total of 12 supervisors and supervisees participated. Two phases of semi-structured interviews took place, the first with all 12 and the second phase with a selected six participants. A conceptual model of how MBS affects the teaching of MBPs was developed using a constructivist grounded theory approach.ResultsAll participants spoke of how MBS is a highly experiential way of developing skills to competently teach MBPs, supported through the relationship between supervisor and supervisee. MBS uses a mindfulness-based relational inquiry process characterised by specific ways of speaking, listening, and pausing. This inquiry supports the supervisee to cultivate an embodied way of knowing, a deliberate stance of “not knowing”, and to take an approach mode rather than avoidance mode towards vulnerability. During the interviews, participants emphasised the collaborative approach within MBS, but showed little acknowledgement or recognition of the inherent power with the role. Potential tensions in the holding of professional and ethical frameworks within MBS were identified.ConclusionsRecommendations are made about how the key findings can be brought into the ongoing good practice within MBS. Future changes within MBS should address issues of bias, diversity, and inclusivity.<br/
A proximal external focus does not benefit skilled skiers
The potential performance benefit of an external focus of attention remains unexamined for skilled junior performers, especially those executing ballistic, whole-body continuous movements. Skilled junior skiers (Mage = 14.09) completed slalom runs under external focus, internal focus, and control focus conditions. Repeated measures ANOVA revealed no significant difference between attentional foci on performance times. Our data challenges the commonly held belief regarding the superiority of an external focus. Instead, we offer researchers and practitioners a more nuanced discussion concerning possible distance effects (proximal vs. distal) associated with external foci in skilled junior performers executing ballistic, whole-body movements

Cardiac rehabilitation has been identified as having the most homogenous clinical exercise service structure in the United Kingdom (UK), but inconsistencies are evident in staff roles and qualifications within and across services. The recognition of Clinical Exercise Physiologists (CEPs) as a registered health professional in 2021 in the UK, provides a potential solution to standardise the cardiac rehabilitation workforce. This case study examined, in a purposefully selected cardiac exercise service that employed registered CEPs, (i) how staff knowledge, skills and competencies contribute to the provision of the service, (ii) how these components assist in creating effective service teams, and (iii) the existing challenges from staff and patient perspectives
Managing venous leg ulceration: variance and variety
Frameworks of care have been developed to enhance and standardise care for those with venous leg ulcers. Community nurses are faced with an array of frameworks and guidance documents on which to base their care. This article outlines and discusses variations in the information provided within the body of evidence relating to the care of venous leg ulcers. It is based on the findings of ongoing study for a PhD thesis.<br/
Chaotic Digital Filter-based Physical Layer Security for Heterogeneous Access Networks
Resource-constrained devices in security-sensitive applications require security techniques to ensure cyber-resilience, data privacy and integrity, and trust in open networks. To effectively address the above requirement, a physical layer security technique based on chaotic digital filters (CDFs), which have chaotic amplitude and phase frequency responses, is proposed and experimentally demonstrated, for the first time, in an intensity modulation and direct detection intensity (IMDD) 12Gb/s@25km standard single-mode-fiber (SSMF) optical link. The CDF-based technique provides signal protection by directly distorting signals and inducing interferences between data signals. The low-complexity and cost-efficient CDF-based security technique offers salient features of ‘security-by-design’, ‘openness-by-design’ and ‘dynamic security at the traffic level’, which are of great importance for applications in heterogeneous access networks
