Profile of an English Teacher at Lower Primary Level
This study is a comparison between generalist teachers and specialist teachers who teach English in primary schools in the 2021/2022 school year. It is a small cross-sectional study which aimed to, firstly, reveal the dominant type of qualification earned by English language teachers at the primary level in the school year 2021/2022 in three selected counties, and, secondly, find out about similarities and differences between generalist and specialist teachers with regard to their teaching experience, reasons for the choice of a teaching career, education and training for early English language teaching, desirable characteristics of primary English teachers, satisfaction with the job, and English language proficiency. The findings show many similarities between the two groups of teachers and a few differences. The generalist teachers have a significantly longer duration of in-service teacher training in primary school than subject teachers. They had also had significantly more courses related to early English language learning at university. However, the group of specialist teachers assesses their level of English language proficiency as significantly higher. The findings are interpreted in the framework of similar research in Europe and Croatia. In the final part of the paper, implications for educational and teaching practice and suggestions for future research are discussed as these are believed to contribute to a better understanding of the desirable profile of an English teacher at lower primary level
Parents' Role in Encouraging Development of Music Competencies in Young and Preschool Children
Music competencies should be nurtured from an early age since they contribute to child development. Music education is as important in kindergarten as it is in a child’s home. Musical activities have a positive effect on the cognitive, psycho-motor and social-emotional development of children, therefore it is necessary to expose children to music and encourage them to engage in musical activities in everyday life. What will the music incentives for the child's musical activity be like, depends on the child’s environment which consists of the family and the preschool institution. Parents are the most important people in the upbringing of a child, so it is their responsibility to provide their child with the conditions for proper development and to carry out various activities with them, including musical activities. The aim of this paper is to enlighten the role of parents in the music development of their children in early childhood and preschool age, as well as to determine whether parents perform musical activities with children at home, what kind of musical activities these are, and how often they are conducted. The intention is to contribute to the development of awareness of the importance of music education of children in early childhood and preschool age. In order to find out which musical activities are used to encourage their children to be musically active, and to see how often they engage in such activities, a survey was conducted among parents in ‘’Zeko’’ Kindergarten in Slatina (N = 90). The results of the survey showed that parents often engage in basic musical activities such as singing and listening to music with their children, while musical activities such as playing an instrument are the least performed, mostly because parents have no music education and do not play any musical instrument. It was also shown that the frequency of musical activities of children in the family circle decreases with age, and that musical activities are carried out with boys a little more often than with girls
Fashion design-individual making of toys with preschool children
Pri izradi odjevnih kombinacija i modnih dodataka djeca su se prvenstveno koristila bojama koje su smatrali isključivo „muškim“ ili „ženskim“.Toys, which can be found everywhere around us, have a great impact on children´s development, especially on the development of the senses and various skills and are also important for gaining experience. The first contact between children and adults and children with other children is most often made using toys. The aim of this research was to examine whether children can make a toy and clothes for it on their own thereby seeking to encourage children on creativity and realization of future ideas. The research was conducted on a sample of 15 children aged five to seven years old from two mixed groups from DV „Mali princ“ Osijek and DV „Crvenkapica“ Ilok. The children had to make and decorate their toy with clothes and fashion accessories, which most of the children did successfully and in accordance with their abilities. 53% of children made clothes that were too small or too big for their toy, while only 47% of them made clothes of the right size. When making clothing combinations and fashion accessories, children primarily used colors that they considered exclusively „masculine“ or „feminine“
Analysis of Applications for Graphomotor Skills Development According to REVEAC Rubrics
Information and communication technology (ICT) has become an integral part of the everyday life of many families, including adult members and children. Preschool children are already very skilled in using ICT, especially mobile devices and tablets. Mobile applications influence the development of digital competence and digital literacy. One of the goals of the National Curriculum for early and preschool education is the comprehensive development, upbringing and learning of a child and the development of eight key competencies for lifelong learning, among which is digital competence. It is an important learning resource, documentation tool and aid in self-evaluation. In this undergraduate thesis, 6 Android applications for the development of graphomotor skills of preschool children are selected by searching the Google Play Store for the keywords graphomotor skills and grafomotorika. The selected applications are analyzed according to the REVEAC rubric designed to evaluate educational mobile applications in four areas: educational content, design, functionality and technical characteristics, each of which has multiple aspects. The research results showed different positive and negative characteristics of the analyzed applications
Neologisms in Children's Picture Books
Rezultati će pokazati brojnost novotvorenica i najčešće tvorbene načine. The outcome of the master's paper Neologisms in children's picture books is to explore the types of neologisms in picture books, determine their number and analyse the word-formation process. Also, the children's language development will be described and the function of neologisms in children’s picture books will be determined. In this paper, the attention is directed toward the types and ways of creating neologisms which appear in children's picture books. The language creativity, when it comes to word-formation the authors use in picture books, is going to be observed. Considering the linguistic and communication skills of children and the age for which the children's picture books are meant, the way of adapting text in children's picture books in the sense of neologisms and to create an approach to the target group, and which ways of formatting new words prevails is going to be observed. The research is going to be conducted by observing neologisms in all the parts of the children's picture book Mrljek i Prljek by Jelena Pervan. The paper is going to, in detail, explain the very term “neologism” and the way they are created. Each process is going to be individually explained for the neologisms in all parts of the picture books Mrljek i Prljek to be presented. All the found neologisms are going to be showcased in a table, after which the second part of the research will ensue, dealing with the detailed analysis of all neologisms found in picture books Mrljek i Prljek, with most of the attention being given to their creation. The results are going to show the abundance of neologisms and the word-formation processes most often used
Templates in Children's Artwork at Christmas Time
The visual language of children is very valuable because it gives us an insight into their consciousness. Children's artworks are full of artistic symbols that tell us the stage of development the child is in. The ability of artistic expression and creation is innate in all people, but it occurs only if it is nurtured and encouraged. Misunderstandings of this ability often lead to the disruption of artistic creation. Due to such interference with artistic creation, templates appear that children take over from adults, but also each other. In the end, uniformed and non-inventive works appear. The intention was to investigate the appearance of templates in children’s artwork during Christmas time. The groups from which children's works were analyzed are the younger and older kindergarten groups, so the difference in the appearance of patterns between the two groups was also investigated. The research was conducted by analyzing children's artworks created during the Christmas season, from which the motives that most encouraged the appearance of the template were singled out. Emphasis was on whether preschool teachers encourage children to use templates during art activities during the holidays and how these are manifested in children's artwork. The results of this research showed how templates are very present in children's artworks, especially in younger kindergarten groups, which is probably the result of educators' approach to the implementation of art activities
Differences in Teaching Non-Swimmers in Preschool Children
Every physical activity that a person engages in has a positive impact on the quality and health of life. Because of that, it is necessary to encourage children and create positive aspects from an early age to physical activity. Swimming, as a physical activity, has been important since ancient times. It can be defined as the movement and maintenance of a person on the surface of the water, moving in the desired direction of the swimmer. Swimming is often used for health and rehabilitation purposes because it activates almost every muscle in the body, which generally affects the improvement of a person’s health. Swimming lessons are intended for children, adult non-swimmers and all non-swimmers who go to rehabilitation. Getting used to and moving through the water leads to the development of a sense of coordination of movements, self-control and balance. In this way, preschool children will acquire motor skills, which they also need in everyday life. Also, swimming stimulates the proper growth and development of the skeletal system and encourages proper posture of the body, ie the spine. The aim of this final paper is to define swimming, describe the lessons of non-swimmers and determine which are the programs of teaching non-swimmers in preschool children
Role of Digital Media Advertising in Family Child Care
Since today's technology is developing rapidly, digital media is available to almost everyone. In addition to adults and young people, children are also surrounded by various media every day. As digital advertising is widespread on almost all digital media, but also on all media in general, children often encounter digital advertising messages directed at them. Therefore, the aim of the paper was to synthesize scientific knowledge in order to show the role of digital advertising messages aimed at children in family child care. Namely, today's families live in a consumer and digital environment, and children spend most of their time at home with digital media, so certain challenges in family child care appear. Children do not sufficiently understand the intention of advertisers of digital media advertising, and the need for educational support from parents was detected. It is recommended that parents apply an authoritative parenting style and involve in children's interaction with digital media
How to help parents in raising a gifted child
Giftedness is ability of individual to achieve the goal and accomplish great results in an easier way. It can be recognized in early age. After recognition, giftedness has to be confirm and identify. When an individual is marked as gifted person, then is possible to appear some problems. For gifted children is hard to fit in social environment because they do not share the same inerests as group of their peers. Parents should help to their gifted child by recognizing the emotional problems. They should enable inclusion in a group of the same interests and help to child to improve his giftedness
Classroom as a Creative and Stimulating Student Environment
In the modern school, the teaching environment is considered as an essential factor that has a considerable impact on the results of teaching and learning. Especially, in the context of teaching and working atmosphere, the physical appearance of a classroom is greatly important. An average student spends about 175 days in a classroom, working together with teachers, and therefore, it is crucial to make their stay in the classroom as pleasant as possible. The physical appearance of the classroom represents a strong motivation for the student, creating a stimulating environment. Such an environment is quite important, so that the students may develop their creative potential, where a teacher also plays an important role. The teacher needs to provide a creative environment that will encourage the students themselves to be creative. The aim of this research was to compare the classrooms of primary education and study their physical appearance. The first part of this master thesis deals with the concept of creativity, the school atmosphere, and the factors that influence the appearance of the classroom. In the research, a qualitative methodology was used, with 28 classrooms being photographed and observed, three of which were thoroughly analyzed. Moreover, 25 classrooms were photographed by the students of the Integrated undergraduate and graduate university class teacher study. The results of the research demonstrated that the appearance of the classroom provides a favorable environment for encouraging the students' creativity. The appearance of the classroom requires constant change, in order to make the classroom creative and stimulating
