A multichannel, general-purpose data logger
Thesis (Diploma (Electrical Engineering))--Cape Technikon, 1986.This thesis describes the implementation of a general-purpose, microprocessor-based
Data Logger.
The Hardware allows analog data acquisition from one to thirty two channels with 12
bit resolution and at a data throughput of up to 2KHz.
The data is logged directly to a Buffer memory and from there, at the end of each
109, it is dumped to an integral cassette data recorder. The recorded data can be
transfered from the logger to a desk-top computer, via the IEEE 488 port, for further
processing and display.
All log parameters are user selectable by means of menu prompted keyboard entry
and a Real-Time clock (RTC) provides date and time information automatically
A micro computer based test set for telecontrol equipment
Thesis (Diploma (Electrical Engineering))--Cape Technikon, 1986.A micro computer based SELTA test set, that simulates the Selta master was
developed and tested to display the following:
Breaker status (open/close), alarms and analogue quantities as Volts, Amps,
Freq etc.
The unit is also capable of sending remote controls to the SELTA remote thus
changing the breaker status
Development of a data buffer and interface converter
Thesis (Masters Diploma (Technology))--Cape Technikon, Cape Town,1984The excessive usage of peripheral devices such as TTY's,
VDU's and printers, have a significant load on the frontend
processor of the Alcatel X83 minicomputer. Because of
this, the response time of the front-end processor to the
peripher~ls is excessive. This can also be attributed to
the fact that the peripherals have small buffers or no
buffers at all. These peripheral devices also operate at
slow speeds. A slow response time from the mini-computer
results in decreased productivity. The mini-computer does
not provide ports for parallel printers even though there
is an abundance of these type of printers. The
unavailability of a variety of interfaces on the minicomputer
makes the reconfiguration of the peripheral
network inflexible. Replacing the existing peripheral
equipment in order to overcome the above limitations will
be costly. This thesis describes the design, development
and implementation of a data buffer and interface
converter which would overcome the above mentioned
limitations
Automation of coastal engineering modelling facilities
Thesis (Diploma (Electrical Engineering))--Cape Technikon, 1983.The Coastal Engineering and Hydraulics Division of the National
Research Institute for Oceanology (NRIO) undertakes research
projects so as to be able to supply specialised expertise and
consultancy services in coastal engineering with special reference
to the needs in South Africa.
Physical models of harbours, beaches, etc. are built at NRIO and
are used mainly for sediment and breakwater studies. To collect
the vast amount of data in the tests done on these models a
Model Hall Data Acquisition System, MHDAS, was developed
(Holroyd, 1980) to provide a data-logging facility and also to
provide the control signals required to co-ordinate model
operation and thus permit automatic model testing
The relationship between organisational culture and effectiveness in the Western Cape banking industry
Thesis (MTech (Business Administration))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Date UnknownOrganisations in many industries, such as energy, banking and electronics,
have faced increasingly complex and changing environments brought about by
deregulation, technological revolution, foreign competition and unpredictable
markets. Key to the success of these organisations is the development of a
particular culture for the organisation. A well-conceived and well-managed
organisation culture closely linked to organisation success, can also mean the
difference between success and failure in the present demanding environment.
Organisational culture has been assumed to have important implications, not
only for the individual's affective reactions to organisational life, but also for
organisational effectiveness.
This study investigates the relationship between organizational culture and
effectiveness in the Western Cape banking industry. Beginning with an existing
model of organizational culture and effectiveness, the paper presents a linked
study. The study uses survey data from six organizations designed to test the
applicability of the model in the context of the Western Cape banking industry.
The results support Denison's findings, namely that organisational culture has
a positive impact on effectiveness. The discussion includes several
recommendations for future research
