    No full text
Optical character recognition is one of the emerging research topics in the field of image processing, and it has extensive area of application in pattern recognition. Odia handwritten script is the most research concern area because it has eldest and most likable language in the state of odisha, India. Odia character is a usually handwritten, which was generally occupied by scanner into machine readable form. In this regard several recognition technique have been evolved for variance kind of languages but writing pattern of odia character is just like as curve appearance; Hence it is more difficult for recognition. In this article we have presented the novel approach for Odia character recognition based on the different angle based symmetric axis feature extraction technique which gives high accuracy of recognition pattern. This empirical model generates a unique angle based boundary points on every skeletonised character images. These points are interconnected with each other in order to extract row and column symmetry axis. We extracted feature matrix having mean distance of row, mean angle of row, mean distance of column and mean angle of column from centre of the image to midpoint of the symmetric axis respectively. The system uses a 10 fold validation to the random forest (RF) classifier and SVM for feature matrix. We have considered the standard database on 200 images having each of 47 Odia character and 10 Odia numeric for simulation. As we have noted outcome of simulation of SVM and RF yields 96.3% and 98.2% accuracy rate on NIT Rourkela Odia character database and 88.9% and 93.6% from ISI Kolkata Odia numerical database

Optimal Tuning of SVC-PI Controller using Whale Optimization Algorithm for Angle Stability Improvement

    No full text
This paper proposed a new swarm-based optimization technique for tuning conventional proportional-integral (PI) controller parameters of a static var compensator (SVC) which controls a synchronous generator in a single machine infinite bus (SMIB) system. As one of the Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices, SVC is designed and implemented to improve the damping of a synchronous generator. In this study, two parameters of PI controller namely proportional gain, KP and integral gain, KI are tuned with a new optimization method called Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA). This technique mimics the social behavior of humpback whales which is characterized by their bubble-net hunting strategy in order to enhance the quality of the solution. Validation with respect to damping ratio and eigenvalues determination confirmed that the proposed technique is more efficient than Evolutionary Programming (EP) and Artificial Immune System (AIS) in improving the angle stability of the system. Comparison between WOA, EP and AIS optimization techniques showed that the proposed computation approach gives better solution and faster computation time

In recent years data mining has acquired huge popularity in the field of knowledge discovery. Thus, this approach has inspired several researches for anomaly detection, fraud detection and intrusion detection with higher accuracy, all round generalization of the problem and its sub cases; all giving higher performance in conditions subjected to continuous alteration. Though there remain quite a few challenging problems in design and implementation of a data mining based cloud intrusion detection system, as deception tactics and modeling of behavior remains a daunting problem to compute for anomaly owing to massive size of data to process in reasonable time. In this study we present a cascaded neural network based data mining strategy for cloud intrusion detection systems (IDSs) and presents the comparison and performance results tested on DARPA Intrusion Detection (ID) Data Sets, Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Cup, NSL-KDD dataset. The study exhibits numerous advantages offered by the presented method and give reliable results of anomaly detection in real time scenario

The system implementation on hard wave level show promising results and have been discussed in detailed

Optimal Economic Load Dispatch using Multiobjective Cuckoo Search Algorithm

    No full text
In this paper, Multiobjective Cuckoo Search Algorithm (MOCSA) is developed to solve Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problem. The main goal of the ELD is to meet the load demand at minimum operating cost by determining the output of the committed generating unit while satisfying system equality and inequality constraints. The problem formulation is based on a multiobjective model in which the multiobjective are defined as fuel cost minimization and carbon emission minimization. MOCSA is based on the inspiration from the brooding parasitism of cuckoo species in nature. Three cases are considered to test the effectiveness of the proposed technique which are fuel cost minimization, carbon emission minimization and multiobjective function with fixed weighted sum. The effectiveness of the MOCSA’s performances are illustrated through comparative study with other techniques such as Multiobjective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA) and Multiobjective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) in terms of fitness functions. The proposed study was conducted on three generating unit system at various loading condition. The result proved that MOCSA provide better solution in minimizing fuel cost and carbon emission usage as compared to other techniques

Sambat Online is one of the implementation of E-Government for complaints management provided by Malang City Government.  All of the complaints will be classified into its intended department. In this study, automatic complaint classification system using Neighbor Weighted K-Nearest Neighbor (NW-KNN) is poposed because Sambat Online has imbalanced data. The system developed consists of three main stages including preprocessing, N-Gram feature extraction, and classification using NW-KNN. Based on the experiment results, it can be concluded that the NW-KNN algorithm is able to classify the imbalanced data well with the most optimal k-neighbor value is 3 and unigram as the best features by 77.85% precision, 74.18% recall, and 75.25% f-measure value. Compared to the conventional KNN, NW-KNN algorithm also proved to be better for imbalanced data problems with very slightly differences

Prediction of Solar Radiation Intensity using Extreme Learning Machine

    No full text
The generated energy capacity at a solar power plant depends on the availability of solar radiation. In some regions, solar radiation is not always available throughout the day, or even week, depending on the weather and climate in the area. To be able to produce energy optimally throughout the year, the availability of solar radiation needs to be predicted based on the weather and climate behavior data. Many methods have been so far used to predict the availability of solar radiation, either by mathematical approach, statistical probability, or even artificial intelligence-based methods. This paper describes a method of predicting the availability of solar radiation using the Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) method. It is based on the artificial intelligence methods and known to have a good prediction accuracy. To measure the performance of the ELM method, a conventional forecasting method using the Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) method has been used as a comparison. The implementation of both the ELM and MLR methods has been tested using the solar radiation data of the Basel City, Switzerland, which are available to public. Five years of data have been divided into training data and testing data for 6 case-studies considered. Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE) have been used as the parameters to measure the prediction results based on the actual data analysis. The results show that the obtained average values of RMSE and MAE by using the ELM method respectively are 122.45 W/m2 and 84.04 W/m2, while using the MLR method they are 141.18 W/m2 and 104.87 W/m2 respectively. It means that the ELM method proved to perform better than the MLR method, giving 15.29% better value of RMSE parameter and 24.79% better value of MAE parameter

Cat Swarm Optimization to Shunt Capacitor Allocation in Algerian Radial Distribution Power System

    No full text
This paper presents a Cat Swarm Optimization (CSO) Algorithm optimization method to shunt capacitor placement on distribution systems under capacitor switching constraints. The optimum capacitor allocation solution is found for the system of feeders fed through their transformer and not for any individual feeder. The main advantages due to capacitor installation, such as capacity release and reduction of overall power and energy losses are considered. The capacitor allocation constraints due to capacitor-switching transients are taken into account. These constraints are extremely important if pole-mounted capacitors are used together with station capacitor bank. Cat Swarm search algorithm is used as an optimization tool. An illustrative example for Algerian example is presented
