    No full text
The purpose of this paper is to identify software requirements engineers’ COSMIC Function Point measurement competence development need by using machine learning algorithms and requirements artifacts created by engineers. Used artifacts have been provided by a large service and technology company ecosystem in Telco. First, feature set has been extracted from the requirements model at hand. To do the data preparation for educational data mining, requirements and COSMIC Function Point (CFP) audit documents have been converted into CFP data set based on the designed feature set. This data set has been used to train and test the machine learning models by designing two different experiment settings to reach statistically significant results. Ten different machine learning algorithms have been used. Finally, algorithm performances have been compared with a baseline and each other to find the best performing models on this data set. In conclusion, REPTree, OneR, and Support Vector Machines (SVM) with Sequential Minimal Optimization (SMO) algorithms achieved top performance in forecasting requirements engineers’ CFP training need

Accelerating Compression Time of the standard JPEG by Employing The Quantized YCbCr Color Space Algorithm

    No full text
In this paper, we propose a quantized YCbCr color space (QYCbCr) technique which is employed in standard JPEG. The objective of this work is to accelerate computational time of the standard JPEG image compression algorithm. This is a development of the standard JPEG which is named  QYCBCr algorithm. It merges two processes i.e., YCbCr color space conversion and Q quantization in which in the standar JPEG they were performed separately. The merger forms a new single integrated process of color conversion which is employed prior to DCT process by subsequently eliminating the quantization process. The equation formula of QYCbCr color coversion is built based on the chrominance and luminance properties of the human visual system which derived from quatization matrices. Experiment results performed on images of different sizes show that the computational running time of QYCbCr algorithm gives 4 up to 8 times faster than JPEG standard, and also provides higher compression ratio and better image quality

Evaluation of Selective Harmonic Elimination Pulse Width Modulation Technique for Unipolar Single-Phase H-Bridge Inverter: Comparative Study

    No full text
In this paper, a detailed comparative study about evaluating the single phase inverter performance based on selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulation (SHE PWM) technique is presented. Set of nonlinear equations are derived, four groups of switching angles are calculated using the numerical iterative method of Newton-Raphson. These angles are representing the ideal solutions to eliminate the low order harmonics from inverter output voltage and load current. Inverter effectiveness is evaluated by comparing the performance based on SHE PWM and based on the conventional constant switching frequency PWM (CSF PWM) technique. Same parameters setting is selected with considering the constant switching frequency value for each case separately as equivalent to the number of switching angles. Moreover, different rated load powers are investigated to explain the merit of SHE PWM within high power applications. MATLAB / Simulink simulation results are clearly indicating the priority of the SHE PWM at all groups of calculated angles and at different load power as well

The study investigates and develops components for implementing an effective and efficient military knowledge/information/communication in closed network architecture. Since military personnel are always on the move, the dissemination of knowledge/information/communication needs a mobile platform to accommodate mobility of people. The mobile and wireless network platform should be able to sustain the remoteness and seclusion of military operation areas. Communication is one of key problems of a military operation especially due to environmental constraints. This study proposes on establishing a future soldier communication device with mobile wireless sensor network (WSN) and mobile network to suit the infantry operations in the jungle. The operational areas are considered to restricted and challenging locations. Wireless sensor network (WSN) will become inexpensive and common over the next decade Thus, a thorough study is vital to develop the most suitable smart equipment and network requirements for Malaysia’s military eco-system. Finally, this study has successfully developed new smart device prototype using WSN approach for Military operation. In addition, this prototype can be used for Search and Rescue (SAR) operation. This prototype is able to transmit death and location status, movement location status, health monitoring and status to the base station

Based on PISA assessment result in 2015 on science; Indonesia ranks 69 out of 79 countries. Meanwhile, in science literacy, Indonesia ranks 62 out of 69 countries that are evaluated. That assessment result shows that science achievement and science literacy ability of Indonesian students are low. One of some factors that influences it is the selection of learning resource that does not explain science concept for students. This research is conducted to know the influence of the use of science literacy-based teaching material based on the improvement of fourth grade students’ science achievement. This research is a quantitative research that uses an experimental method. This research is conducted at two elementary schools in Gunungpati, Semarang. The subjects of this research are 46 fourth grade students. The data were collected by using pre-test and post-test to know the students’ score. This research shows that pre-test mean score is 39.935 and the post-test 1 mean score is 66.891. Meanwhile, t-tests show significance 0.000 (<0.05) meaning that there is the difference between pre-test and post-test. Therefore, there is influence on the use of science literacy-based teaching material based on fourth grade students’ science achievement

    No full text
In the medical field, electrodes are commonly used either to retrieve signals or to conduct current. Most of the off-the-shelf surface electrodes are made from metal or rigid substrates. This paper presents a work on designing a new flexible dry electrodes using poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate and silver by means of dispenser printing technology. The polyester cotton fabric was selected as the substrate in this electrode designed. To analyse the new proposed composites of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate and silver, different mixtures have been applied.  Results from the experiment show that the conductivity of the proposed flexible electrode is comparable with the commercialized pre-gelled electrode when applied to an electrical stimulator device. Eight out of ten subjects under test described no difference in comfort between the proposed electrodes and pre-gelled electrodes

Environmental and energy audit of industrial building is important as it may help in providing a comfortable workplace for the staff as well as to observe the company’s environmental practices during operational hours while managing the energy usage in an efficient manner. It is also important in ensuring the company comply with applicable laws and regulations This paper discusses on the environmental and energy audit to identify the performance of environmental and energy efficiency in two manufacturing industrial buildings with heavy machineries. Analyses on the energy performance, visual comfort and thermal improvement including recommended solutions for optimization of energy efficiency and environmental aspects of the two buildings are presented. Energy efficiency and environmental aspects covered in this audit study are the illuminance of the building, indoor building temperature, relative humidity and carbon dioxide (CO2) percentage in indoor air quality. Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) standards is used as a benchmark to observe the illuminance of the buildings, Malaysian Standard 1525 (MS1525) is used as a quality control for temperature and relative humidity, while Department of Occupational Safety and Health, 2005 (DOSH 2005) is used as a quality control for CO2 percentage in air. Based on the results from the audit, the performance for both industrial building is compared. It was found that the energy efficiency and environmental performance for Factory A is better than Factory B

Internet of Things Application in Monitoring Sick Building Syndrome

    No full text
Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) is a health condition whereby a patient is presented with either vague temporary symptoms such as fatigue, aches and sensitivity to odour or more significant temporary symptoms such as itchy eyes, skin rashes and nasal allergy when they are in a building. Numerous factors have been associated with SBS, but the lack of an accurate diagnosis for these symptoms make treatment more difficult, as risk of treating the patient with wrong diagnosis is relative when the cause root is not known. Thus, taking a preventive approach is a more viable solution to the problem. In this paper, a simple, mobile and cost efficient Internet of Things (IoT) based SBS system is proposed. The system is built using Raspberry Pi minicomputer that would then be integrated with an IoT middleware. The middleware would enable the user to monitor parameters that are to be tested; which are temperature, humidity, light, sound and dust. Three IoT middleware are used to evaluate which one works best for the SBS system proposed. The combination of recorded sensor data would then be used to determine whether or not the building is causing SBS to the occupant. The studies show that FavorIoT platform is the most suitable IoT platform to be used with the SBS system and the system has successfully identified whether or not a building is causing SBS

In this paper, we propose an approach to detect the temporary faults induced by an environmental phenomenon called single event upset (SEU). Berger code based self-checking checkers provides an online detection of faults in digital circuits as well as in memory arrays. In this work, a concurrent Berger code based online self- testable methodology is proposed and integrated in 32-bit DLX Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC) processor on a single silicon chip. The proposed methodology is implemented and verified for various arithmetic and logical operations of the DLX processor. The FPGA implementation of the proposed design shows that a meager increase in hardware utilization facilitates online self- testing to detect temporary faults

    No full text
This paper reports a study on mitigation of propagation impairments on Earth–space communication links. The study uses time diversity as a technique for mitigating rain propagation impairment in order to rectify rain fade. Rain attenuation time series along earth-to-satellite link were measured for two years period at 12.255 GHz in Malaysia. The time diversity technique was applied on measured rain fade to investigate the level of possible improvement in system. Time diversity gain from measured one-minute rain attenuation for two years period was estimated and significant improvement was observed with different delays of time. These findings will be utilized as a useful tool for link designers to apply time diversity as a rain fade mitigation technique in Earth-satellite communications systems
