உபநிடதங்களில் கல்விச் சிந்தனை தைத்திரிய உபநிடதத்திமையப்படுதிய ஓர் ஆய்வு
கல்வி என்பது குழந்தைகளை, உடல் மற்றும் மன
வளர்ச்சியில் அறிவு, நல்லொழுக்கம் ஆகிய மதிப்புடன் வளர்க்க உதவும் ஒரு
சமூக அமைப்பு ஆகும். கல்வி என்ற சொல் கல் என்ற வேர்ச் சொல்லிலிருந்து
வருகின்றது. கல்வியாளர்கள் கூற்றின் படி இளைய தலைமுறையை முறையாக
வழி நடத்துவதிலும், சமுதாயத்தில் பங்களிப்பு செய்ய வைப்பதிலும் கல்வி
முக்கிய பங்கு வகிக்கின்றது. கல்வி ஒரு மனிதனின் வாழ்க்கை முழுவதும்
தொடர்கிறது. ஆனால் மனிதர்கள் குழந்தைப் பருவத்தில் கல்வி கற்கும் போது
முழுமையான பரிணாமம் அடைந்த மனிதனாகவும் சமுதாயத்திற்கு
உதவிகளை அளிக்கும் மனிதனாகவும் மாற்றம் அடைகின்றான்.
சான்றோர்களின் கூற்றின் படி இளைய தலை முறையை முறையாக வழி
நடத்துவதிலும் சமுதாயத்தில் பங்களிப்பு செய்ய வைப்பதிலும் கல்வி முக்கிய
பங்கு வகிக்கிறது. ஆரம்ப காலங்களில் சமூகத்தில் ஏற்றத் தாழ்வு இல்லாமல்
மாணவர்கள் சமத்துவமாக காணப்பட வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக குருகுலகல்வி
வழங்கப்பட்டது. கல்வியின் ஆங்கில வடிவமான நுனரஉயவழைn ஆனது
நனரஉயவழை எனும் இலத்தின் மொழிச் சொல்லில் இருந்து உருவானது. இது
வளர்தல் எனும் பொருளை குறிக்கிறது. கல்வியின் உள்ளார்ந்த
எண்ணக்கருக்களை ஆராயும் நோக்கில் உபநிடதங்களில் கல்வி பற்றிக்
கூறப்பட்டுள்ளன. தைத்திரிய உபநிடதத்தில் கூறப்பட்ட கல்விக் நடைமுறைகள்
தற்காலக் கல்வி நடைமுறையில் பின்பற்றப்படுகின்றதா? ஏன்பதும் இவ்விரு
நடைமுறைகளும் அடிப்படையில் ஒத்த தன்மைகளைக் கொண்டனவா?
என்பதும் ஆய்வுப் பிரச்சினைகளாக அமைந்தன. உபநிடதங்களில்
பல்வேறுபட்ட கருத்துக்கள் கூறப்பட்ட போதிலும் இவற்றின் கல்விச்
சிந்தனைகள் அவற்றின் நோக்கங்கள் பற்றி இது வரையிலும்
ஆராயப்படவில்லை எனும் ஆய்வு இடைவெளியினை அடிப்படையாகக்
கொண்டு இவ்வாய்வு மேற்கொள்ளப்படுகின்றது. ஆரம்ப காலத்தில்
உபநிடதத்தில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ள கல்விக் கருத்துக்களை இனங்காண்பதோடு
தற்கால கல்வி நடைமுறைகளையும் இனங்கண்டு உபநிடதத்தில் கூறப்பட்ட
கல்வி நடைமுறைகளிலிருந்து தற்கால கல்வி நடைமுறைகள் எவ்வாறு மாற்றம்
அடைந்துள்ளது என்பதனை எடுத்துரைப்பதே இவ்வாய்வின் நோக்கங்களாகும்.

Fingerprint systems: sensors, image acquisition, interoperability and challenges
The fingerprint is a widely adopted biometric trait in forensic and civil applications.
Fingerprint biometric systems have been investigated using contact prints and latent and contactless
images which range from low to high resolution. While the imaging techniques are advancing
with sensor variations, the input fingerprint images also vary. A general fingerprint recognition
pipeline consists of a sensor module to acquire images, followed by feature representation, matching
and decision modules. In the sensor module, the image quality of the biometric traits significantly
affects the biometric system’s accuracy and performance. Imaging modality, such as contact and
contactless, plays a key role in poor image quality, and therefore, paying attention to imaging modality
is important to obtain better performance. Further, underlying physical principles and the working of
the sensor can lead to their own forms of distortions during acquisition. There are certain challenges
in each module of the fingerprint recognition pipeline, particularly sensors, image acquisition and
feature representation. Present reviews in fingerprint systems only analyze the imaging techniques
in fingerprint sensing that have existed for a decade. However, the latest emerging trends and recent
advances in fingerprint sensing, image acquisition and their challenges have been left behind. Since
the present reviews are either obsolete or restricted to a particular subset of the fingerprint systems,
this work comprehensively analyzes the state of the art in the field of contact-based, contactless 2D
and 3D fingerprint systems and their challenges in the aspects of sensors, image acquisition and
interoperability. It outlines the open issues and challenges encountered in fingerprint systems, such
as fingerprint performance, environmental factors, acceptability and interoperability, and alternate
directions are proposed for a better fingerprint system
Problems faced by students of online learning due to economic crisis in Sri Lanka: a study based on secondary school students in Galle district
Current Sri Lanka has been hit by the worst economic crisis in
the history. Due to the economic crisis of country the government of Sri Lanka
has decided to close all the schools considering the difficulties of students
and teachers coming to schools due to the shortage of fuel. As a remedy,
they have introduced the online system. This research was conducted to
identify what kind of experience secondary school students had when they
were educated through the online system that was introduced in the wake of
the economic crisis. For that purpose, this research has been conducted
based on five main schools in the Galle district of the southern province. The
data collected from the students revealed that the online system was not new
to them. That is, during the Covid-19 period, the students were taught
through the online system, so the research has revealed that even though
they have some knowledge about the online system, it has become difficult
for the students to carry out their education in the face of the economic crisis.
The most important thing revealed by the research is that only a limited
number of people have expressed their interest in the online system. All the
rest have revealed their dissatisfaction with the online system. For the
welfare of the students, the government should immediately abolish the
online system and switch to the face-to-face teaching-learning process
Studying the relationship between dengue infection and environment factors in Gampaha district Sri Lanka
This study investigates the relationship between dengue infection and environmental
factors in Sri Lanka's Gampaha district from January 2013 to December 2021. The
purpose of this study an accurate early warning system to forecast and respond to
outbreaks promptly. Employing various statistical models and tests, the research
identifies a significant relationship between dengue cases and lagged environmental
variables. The chosen model, validated for stability, incorporates an EGARCH
modification due to ARCH effects. With a high R-squared value of 0.72, indicates that
the selected variables explain a large portion of the variance in dengue cases. Past
dengue cases, rainfall, and temperature positively influence current cases, while past
humidity has a negative impact. The study's implications extend to public health policy
and planning, emphasizing the importance of considering environmental factors in
dengue control efforts throughout Sri Lanka. Additionally, the model can be applied to
other districts and MOH areas for broader disease control strategies
A new acyl derivative of sulfadimethoxine inhibits phagocyte oxidative burst and ameliorates inflammation in a mice model of zymosan-induced generalised inflammation
Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress play a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of most challenging illnesses, including cancer, Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular and autoimmune diseases. The present study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory potential of a new sulfadimethoxine derivative N-(4-(N-(2,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-4-yl) sulfamoyl) phenyl) dodecanamide (MHH-II-32). The compound was characterised by applying 1H-, 13C-NMR, EI–MS and HRFAB–MS spectroscopic techniques. The compound inhibited zymosan-induced oxidative bursts from whole blood phagocytes and isolated polymorphonuclear cells with an IC50 value of (2.5 ± 0.4 and 3.4 ± 0.3 µg/mL), respectively. Furthermore, the inhibition of nitric oxide with an IC50 (3.6 ± 2.2 µg/mL) from lipopolysaccharide-induced J774.2 macrophages indicates its in vitro anti-inflammatory efficacy. The compound did not show toxicity towards normal fibroblast cells. The observational findings, gross anatomical analysis of visceral organs and serological tests revealed the non-toxicity of the compound at the highest tested intraperitoneal (IP) dose of 100 mg/kg in acute toxicological studies in Balb/c mice. The compound treatment (100 mg/kg) (SC) significantly (P < 0.001) downregulated the mRNA expression of inflammatory markers TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-13, and NF-κB, which were elevated in zymosan-induced generalised inflammation (IP) in Balb/c mice while upregulated the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10, which was reduced in zymosan-treated mice. No suppressive effect was observed at the dose of 25 mg/kg. Ibuprofen was taken as a standard drug. The results revealed that the new acyl derivative of sulfadimethoxine has an immunomodulatory effect against generalised inflammatory response with non-toxicity both in vitro and in vivo, and has therapeutic potential for various chronic inflammatory illnesses
Potential use of Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) and Kessibissan (Cyclea peltata L.) as media additives for Anthurium tissue culture

alternative substances, and advance research are critical
to making tissue culture a sustainable and cost-effective
method for mass plant propagation. Hence, the present
study was conducted at the Floriculture Research and
Development Unit of the Royal Botanical Gardens,
Peradeniya. The objective was to evaluate the potential of
using Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) and Kesibissan
(Cyclea peltata L.) as nutrient additives and gelling
medium for Anthurium tissue culture. The experiment
was designed using a Complete Randomized Design with
seven treatments, and each experiment was replicated 15
times.The number of leaves, shoots and roots per plantlet and the
explant height were measured. Based on the results, our study
found that supplementing Aloe vera and Kesibissan
extracts had a substantial impact on the growth
parameters of Anthurium explants after one month of
incubation period. Kessibissan extracts performed well on
Anthurium explant growth, especially in terms of the
number of leaves, roots, and plantlet height. Meanwhile,
the treatment involving 700 ml of MS media and 300 ml
of Aloe vera extract proved to be the most successful for
Anthurium, resulting in improved leaf, root, and shoot
development. Overall, our findings give useful
information for improving the growth of this attractive
plant and may have applications for horticultural
operations, highlighting the potential benefits of natural
extracts in plant tissue culture
Teachers’ efficacy in employing language activities to teach Arabic language at the South eastern university of Sri Lanka: an analytical descriptive study
The language activities play an important role in developing students' language skills. Through
language activities, teachers can identify and develop the language abilities of students, thus linking and
deepening the information, skills and tendencies learned by students. In addition, these language activities
help the learner to prepare for the public life that awaits them outside the walls of the school. Hence, this
study aims to explore the teachers’ efficacy in employing language activities in teaching Arabic to improve
the level of students at the Southeastern University of Sri Lanka. This study uses an analytical descriptive
approach, with a closed questionnaire given to teachers in the Department of Arabic Language at the
Southeastern University of Sri Lanka, as a closed questionnaire was distributed randomly to 100 male and
female students studying in the second, third and fourth years in the Department of Arabic Language at the
Southeastern University of Sri Lanka. The data is analyzed using the statistical package SPSS, and the
results reveal that most teachers are interested in language activities, while some are not interested in
teaching Arabic at Southeastern University of Sri Lanka
Chitra Fernando's short history “action and reaction”: a sociological perspective
Chitra Fernando is the most prominent and important writer and
critic in Sri Lankan English fiction. One of her major works include the short
story ‘Action and reaction’ from her short story collection ‘Three women’(1984).
It is necessary to bring her short stories which contain various social problems
as the contents into the area of research. Her short stories can be analyzed in
different perspectives. Hence, this study was conducted based on Chitra
Fernando’s short story “Action and Reaction” from her short story collection
‘Three women’. Main objective of this research is identifying the challenges
and issues related to adoption and child labour in the story. One of the research
questions of this article is why children from poor families are adopted by the
adopters in order to meet their needs and the other question is how the
adopted children are used as child workers under these adopters and act
according to their demand and orders. The third question of this research is
what the mental and social problems are those adopted child labourers face
eventually when they grow up. In this research, the short story “Action and
Reaction” has been used as the primary data source. books, research journals
and websites related to the study have been used as secondary data too. A
sociological and rights-based approach has been applied for the textual
analysis of the story. As a result, psychology, physical and social challenges
related to adoption and child labour faced by the character ‘kusuma’ – the child
labourer of this short story were found and discussed in this study. Therefore,
it is recommended that policies that are made for fighting against adopting
children illegally and engaging them as child labourers should be
implemented
To examine the antecedents of second level of gender digital divide among Indian youth
Digital Divide (DD) is classified into three levels as the first level
DD depicts the difference in physical access of hardware and software and
internet connection; second-level DD refers to the difference in digital usage
and third-level DD as the difference in outcomes received from digital usage.
One of the forms of DD is Gender Digital Divide (GDD), remotely explained
as unequal access of digital tools among men and women. Extensive studies
in different economies were conducted to understand the factors contributing
to GDD, specifically in relation to the first level of Digital Divide, but the
present authors found few records on the factors affecting or barriers
contributing to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) usage,
causing the second level of GDD. Therefore, the study aims to understand
the second level of GDD of Indian youth affected by the barriers classified
as: Technical Barriers, Economical Barriers, and Social Networking Barriers;
where the digital usage in categorized as: Entertainment Usage,
Professional Usage and Financial Usage. Out of the distributed 400
structured questionnaires among the randomly selected University students,
368 were completed. ANOVA test resulted in significant difference in
Entertainment Usage and Financial Usage of ICT and internet among both
genders where females are found to be more inclined to both the uses, as
depicted through comparative means. No significant difference was found in
Professional Usage among genders. Significant difference was reported with
regards to Social Networking Barriers and Economical Barriers. This study
contributes in understanding the factors affecting second level of digital
divide, specifically. Females highly face all the three barriers as compared to
men, in spite of which Entertainment Usage and Financial Usage is more
among women
Thermal activated Casuarina equisetifolia wood bark for heavy metal adsorption
The thermal activation has been used with better results for increase the
adsorption capacity of some materials and the thermally modified wood might be a
better adsorbent than untreated wood. Wooden materials or wastes are cheap sorbent
materials. The useful of application of wooden by-products or wastes for wastewater
treatment are determined by their high removal selectivity, good adsorption capacity
and possibility of regeneration. In order to, present studies suggest this hypothesis for
several criteria. The powdered Casuarina equisetifolia wood bark heat treated at 2, 6
and 8 hours were obtained and the maximum adsorption was evaluated in pH 5 and
pH 8 for the unheated and heated series respectively. In spite of that, all heat treated
wood samples showed a significant higher adsorption capacity than compared to
unheated wood for cadmium and chromium adsorptions. Although this reported that
the Langmuir model gave a better fit than the Freundlich model, whereas adsorption
capacity is optimum in Cr (III) ion in pH 5 and the maximum monolayer adsorption
capacity reported for Cd (II) ion in pH 5. This can be a better benefit of heat treated
wood in the end of its life
