Factors affect to effective inventory management system in the University in Sri Lanka: with special reference to University of Jaffna
Purpose: The research is managing and evaluation of every assets ledger in an
effective way it has a positive impact in an originations. The objective of the
research was identified to carry out the annual verification and establishing assets
management controlling system to maximize the assets utilization and able to
ensure continuous supply for smooth function in the universities in Sri Lanka.
Design: It has to identify the nature of assets and classification of assets to
establish an efficient assets ledger management information system to university
of Jaffna. The research consist Mixed method was used for this study. The sample
consists with 65 locations of inventory section employees in 25 department or
branch in the University of Jaffna. Primary data were collected through
distributed questionnaires among selecting employees. The secondary data and
information concluded that the Financial Regulation, Manual and automated
assets coding system, nature of Inventory ((Immoveable or Moveable) inventory
ledger system (fixed assets, Perishable assets and consumable assets), storage,
wastage system, security system and investment in inventory were affected
inventory management system and the in-charge of inventory and method of
accounts are affect to effective inventory management system in the universities
in Sri Lanka.
Findings: These research findings are statically proved that assets ledge and
inventory recording system strongly influence to the active and real inventory
information for an origination stable growth and development. It is revealed that
the behaviors of inventory in-charge and process of wastage handling of assets
are positively impact to the operational register controlling. The evident of seven
features which are considered by researcher positive and important on real
monitoring and evaluation method and other one factor is not essential of
effective inventory system. The Study exposed that most of university ranch or
departments or units were not used periodically inventory monitoring technique
to ensure the assets status.
Pratical Implications: The assets ledger recording and information system were
important to an organization. Automated asset classification and codding system
has recognize the fixed assets, Master and department inventory registers it makes
proper assets reconciliation statement for publish the finalize statements, to establish appropriative pronouncement system with congruence of the Finance
branch and the General administration of a university to maximize assets
utilization with the marginal cost

Conflicts between individuals and groups at various levels are inevitable. However, it is essential
that conflicts are resolved through an efficient process. In this regard, based on the five conflict resolution
steps recommended by the American Management Association, the study aimed at analysing the Islamic
guidelines on conflict resolution through its basic sources and historical evidence. The major finding
reveals that Islam presents an avid guidance process for successfully dealing with contradictions and
obtaining proper solutions. Therefore, accurate studies of the application of these guidelines in resolving
the practical conflicts that appear in various dimensions in the modern era would greatly assist in the
evaluation of the finding of the study
Exploring the potential use of Moringa olifera Lam and Azadirachta indica additives in Orchid tissue culture
This study was conducted in the Floriculture Research and Development Unit at the Royal Botanical Gardens,
Peradeniya to explore the potential of Moringa olifera Lam.
(Moringa) and Azadiracta indica (Neem) organic supplements
for promoting Orchid invitro culture of Dendrobium spp . The
Knudson C (KnC) basal media was prepared by additionally
supplemented with either 5g/l, 10g/l and 15g/l of moringa
powder, moringa leaf extract and neem leaf extract separately.
The experiment was laid out in completely randomized design
with 10 treatments having 10 replicates. One month after
explant incubation, the number of leaves, shoots and roots
per plantlets and shoot length were recorded. According to the
results, different treatments had significantly affected the tested
parameters (p<0.05). Both moringa and neem leaf extracts gave
improved responses compared to moringa powder. ¼ KnC+15g/l
of moringa leaf extract performed well in terms of producing
increased number of leaves and roots per plantlet, whereas full
KnC+5g/l of moringa leaf extract resulted the highest number
of shoots per plantlet (3.5). On the contrary, neem leaf extracts
(5g/l, 10g/l and 15g/l) increased the shoot length of orchid
explants and produced significantly higher number of roots per
plantlet. Hence, moringa and neem leaf extracts can be used to
develop a simple and cost effective culture media for promoting
orchid tissue culture
Heat-related public health impacts based on the WBGT index in Colombo, Sri Lanka
Human health, energy and comfort are determined by climate
remained in the physical environment. All living beings are sensitive to the
environment in physical and psychological terms. Climate change,
urbanization, and an aging population create a perfect storm of risks to global
health, particularly from the urban heat. Heat exhaustion, heat pyrexia, heat
syncope, and heat cramps were found to be the most common effects of heat
stress. Colombo is selected as the study area of the research and it is the
commercial capital and largest city of Sri Lanka by population with the process
of urbanization. This study tried to analyze heat stress and public health effects
in Colombo, based on the secondary data (Temperature and Relative Humidity
(RH%)) acquired from the Department of Meteorology in Colombo in 2008
to 2018. Then calculated the Wet-Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) index
was introduced by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (ABM) to
examine heat waves and their impacts on public health. That requires only
water vapour pressure (ρ), air temperature (Ta), and RH% as input.
Throughout the year Colombo has not come under the “Comfortable” category
(WBGT: ≤ 27.7) of the thermal sensation. Because the whole year's
temperature is not below 27oC and RH% also fluctuates between 75% and
84%. As a result of that, for the whole year, the WBGT index value is 30.0 ≤.
Therefore, throughout the year “Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are
possible”. Especially in the period of the First Inter Monsoon (FIM) and Second
Inter Monsoon (SWM), the city belongs to the “Very severe stress” (WBGT:
≥32.2) category with “Heatstroke highly likely”. When concluding the all facts,

The phosphate recovering capacity of different types of biochar's
Discharging wastewater containing phosphorus into natural water bodies negatively
impacts aquatic ecology, such as eutrophication, and the presence of phosphate
nutrients creates a significant challenge in wastewater treatment. Adsorption by biochar
is recognized as a promising technique for adsorbing phosphates from aqueous
solutions. In recent years, biochar made from different raw materials has been used to
recover phosphorus present in the aqueous media. This study analyses the phosphate
recovery capacity of biochars prepared from rice husks, rice straw, tea waste, bamboo
wood, and eggshells. Raw materials for biochar production were collected and rinsed
with water to remove any impurities and oven-dried at 60°C for 12 h to remove the
moisture. Each biochar was produced through slow pyrolysis at a predefined
temperature (300°C, 500°C, 600°C, 700°C and 800°C) for 2.0 h in a large chamber
muffle furnace. After the biochar had cooled to room temperature, they were taken out,
weighed, and labelled for the adsorption experiment. A mass of 2.0 g of dry biochar of
each raw material was added into test tubes filled with 50.00 mL of phosphate stock
solution of 100 mg L-1, sealed, and shaken at 120 rpm for 12 h. After 12 h test tubes
were removed and the solutions were filtered and the concentrations of the phosphate
were determined using the ascorbic acid blue method. The procedure was repeated with
all the biochars for five replicates each. Concentrations were calculated and compared
using basic statistics in Minitab 17 statistical software and Excel 2013. A small amount
of ash was obtained from the biochar prepared using rice husk, rice straw, tea waste,
and bamboo wood remain as. In contrast, the eggshell biomass displayed a very low
weight loss and remained constant across all five temperatures. Rice husk, rice straw,
tea waste, and bamboo wood biochar exhibited removal efficiencies of less than 20 %.
Notably, Eggshell char prepared at 800°C (ES800) displayed the highest phosphate
removal efficiency of 98.92±0.17% among all the biochar tested, without requiring
chemical activation. The eggshells were considerably stable and resistant to
decomposition at the tested temperatures due to a high percentage of CaCO3, which has
good thermal stability. Calcium ions (Ca2+) present in CaCO3 would form strong
electrostatic interactions with phosphate ions. Therefore, in contrast to the other four
materials, which contain organic compounds such as cellulose and lignin, Eggshell char
demonstrates more effective adsorption of phosphate from aqueous solutions. These
findings suggest further research into optimizing the conditions for maximum
phosphate adsorption and potential applications of ES800
Knowledge and awareness of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection among female students aged 18 – 20 in selected Schools in Kaluthara District, Sri Lanka
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI)
in the world. Cervical carcinoma is one of the most recurrent and dangerous female
cancer types, and HPV is the main cause of that condition. This study aimed to
determine the knowledge and awareness of HPV infection among female students aged
18-20 in selected schools in Kalutara District, Sri Lanka. A descriptive cross-sectional
study was conducted using a random cluster sampling method. Data was collected
through pre-tested, validated, and self-administrated questionnaires. Statistical analysis
of collected data was done using SPSS 28, and the data was graded according to
Bloom’s cut-off point. The association between students’ Advanced-level subject
streams and their knowledge and awareness of HPV was analyzed based on the Chi
Square test while considering the P value less than 0.05 as statistically significant.
Among the 440 students who participated in this study, 142(32.2%) were from biology
stream, 88(20%) were from physical science stream, 156(35.4%) were from commerce,
and 56(12%) were from art stream. Out of all respondents, 212(48.1%) respondents had
heard about HPV infection, but only 22(5%) respondents knew about the causes of
HPV infection. Furthermore, according to the Bloom's cut off point, participants who
gained marks 80-100% were considered as having high knowledge and awareness,
those who scored 50-70% were categorized as having moderate knowledge and
awareness, and those who scored less than 50% were considered as having low
knowledge and awareness regarding HPV infection. Based on that, only 71(16.1%) of
the participants had a high level of knowledge. The majority, comprising 369 (83.9%)
individuals had a moderate level of knowledge about HPV. Moreover, 372(84.5%) had
a moderate level of awareness about HPV, while 68 (15.4%) of the students had a low
level of awareness of HPV infection. A significant association was found between
participants’ subject streams and their knowledge (P value - 0.001) and awareness (P
value - 0.005) regarding HPV infection. Findings of the study highlight that most
female students aged 18-20 in selected schools in Kalutara District, Sri Lanka had a
moderate level of knowledge and awareness regarding HPV infection. Therefore,
findings suggest a need for comprehensive HPV education and awareness programs at
school level to enhance the knowledge and awareness of school students on HPV
infection
The impact of liquidity management on financial performance: a study of listed manufacturing companies on Colombo stock exchange
This study assesses the relationship between liquidity management and financial performance in a sample of manufacturing firms listed in the Colombo Stock
Exchange, in Sri Lanka, between the years 2016 to 2020. This research aims to analyse and investigate the impact of liquidity management on financial performance,
by considering the listed manufacturing companies on Colombo Stock Exchange in Sri Lanka and gain an insight on the impact of firm’s liquidity position on its
financial ratios. It further assesses whether there is any existence of trade-off between the two aspects. The study utilized the financial data published in the firms’
Annual Reports to assess the relationship between the variables of the two financial aspects, by conducting descriptive and regression analysis. It was observed
that when measured with Return on Capital Employed and, financial performance had a significant positive relationship with liquidity, supporting the Hirigoyen
Anti Trade-Off Hypothesis. Whereas it was observed that when measured with Price Earnings Ratio and, financial performance had a significant negative
relationship with liquidity, supporting the trade-off theory. Also observed that when measured with Return on Investment and, financial performance had an
insignificant negative relationship with liquidity. This deduces that there is a higher possibility of a negative relationship liquidity management and financial
performance in the listed manufacturing firms on CSE, indicating that a minimum level of liquidity enable firms to increase its financial performance. The study
demonstrates an exploratory nature and its deductions are limited to the Sri Lankan manufacturing industry and to the years observed
Innovative application for the stock verification process of library materials: a case of SEUSL libraries
With the introduction of a new University Grant Commission circular, all university libraries
are required to conduct stock verifications annually if the collection is less than 100,000
items. Libraries with huge collections are facing difficulties with verifying the stock against
their accession registers due to the time taken to complete the process. The South Eastern
University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) Library provided an efficient solution for the process since
it reduced the extra manual work to compare the database with the verified data and reporting
options. Therefore, making awareness of the university libraries about this tool is the main
objective of this study. Libraries of SEUSL planned its stock verification process when it was
requested to be conducted. Even though all the guidelines were followed as mentioned in the
commission circular, the process becomes different at the SEUSL libraries than at other
libraries since the library uses this innovative tool. The tool developed by SEUSL used the
existing technologies of the universities to minimize data losses and human errors. All the
techniques and process lines were developed in-house and allocated staff precisely to collect
data using the given guidelines. At the end of the data collection process, all the data were
screened for any issues to be noted. The tool helps to match the exact electronic version of
the accession register with the physically verified data. The tool instantly provides duplicated
items, missing items, shelf-wise or section-wise detailed reports etc. The tool was built using
Microsoft Access for the ease of the users and there is a plan to go for an online version of
the same to increase the efficiency of it. The staff can locate each item with issues by using
the reports generated which consist of location details. This has separate modules and designs
in a user-friendly manner. With the use of this tool, SEUSL Libraries conducted two
verifications. After that modifications to the system as well as to the process were done.
Since the stock verifications have been completed fully within three months, this is a good
example for the other university libraries to adopt this for their verifications to finalize the
process
Invariant feature encoding for contact handprints using Delaunay triangulated graph
Contact-based biometric applications primarily use prints from a finger or a palm for a single instance in different applications. For access control, there is an enrollment process using one or more templates which are compared with verification images. In forensics applications, randomly located, partial, and often degraded prints acquired from a crime scene are compared with the images captured from suspects or existing fingerprint databases, like AFIS. In both scenarios, if we need to use handprints which include segments from the finger and palm, what would be the solution? The motivation behind this is the concept of one single algorithm for one hand. Using an algorithm that can incorporate both prints in a common processing framework can be an alternative which will have advantages like scaling to larger existing databases. This work proposes a method that uses minutiae or minutiae-like features, Delaunay triangulation and graph matching with invariant feature representation to overcome the effects of rotation and scaling. Since palm prints have a large surface area with degradation, they tend to have many false minutiae compared to fingerprints, and the existing palm print algorithms fail to tackle this. The proposed algorithm constructs Delaunay triangulated graphs (DTG) using minutiae where Delaunay triangles form from minutiae, and initiate a collection of base triangles for opening the matching process. Several matches may be observed for a single triangle match when two images are compared. Therefore, the set of initially matched triangles may not be a true set of matched triangles. Each matched triangle is then used to extend as a sub-graph, adding more nodes to it until a maximum graph size is reached. When a significant region of the template image is matched with the test image, the highest possible order of this graph will be obtained. To prove the robustness of the algorithm to geometrical variations and working ability with extremely degraded (similar to latent prints) conditions, it is demonstrated with a subset of partial-quality and extremely-low-quality images from the FVC (fingerprint) and the THUPALMLAB (palm print) databases with and without geometrical variations. The algorithm is useful when partial matches between template and test are expected, and alignment or geometrical normalization is not accurately possible in pre-processing. usability and accessibility of educational mobile
apps for mathematics learning. The study delves
into the contexts, investigating the effectiveness of
these apps in accommodating the needs of learners
with varying abilities. Through a preliminary
literature analysis of the selected papers, this
review explores the challenges faced by learners
and identifies the strategies employed in these
applications to address these challenges. The
synthesis reveals insights into user preferences,
design elements, and pedagogical approaches that
optimize usability and accessibility. By evaluating
the existing literature, this review not only provides
an overview of the current state of research but also
offers recommendations for the future development
of educational mobile apps, ensuring inclusivity
and effectiveness in mathematics education
