WildIng : A Wildlife Image Invariant Representation Model for Geographical Domain Shift
No full textWildlife monitoring is crucial for studying biodiversity loss and climate change. Camera trap images provide a non-intrusive method for analyzing animal populations and identifying ecological patterns over time. However, manual analysis is time-consuming and resource-intensive. Deep learning, par- ticularly foundation models, has been applied to automate wildlife identification, achieving strong performance when tested on data from the same geographical locations as their training sets. Yet, despite their promise, these models struggle to generalize to new geographical areas, leading to sig- nificant performance drops. For example, training an advanced vision-language model, such as CLIP with an adapter, on an African dataset achieves an accuracy of 84.77%. However, this performance drops significantly to 16.17% when the model is tested on an American dataset. This limitation partly arises because existing models rely predominantly on image-based representations, making them sensitive to geographical data distribution shifts, such as variation in background, lighting, and environmental conditions. To address this, we introduce WildIng, a Wildlife image Invariant rep- resentation model for geographical domain shift. WildIng integrates text descriptions with image features, creating a more robust representation to geographical domain shifts. By leveraging textual descriptions, our approach captures consistent semantic information, such as detailed descriptions of the appearance of the species, improving generalization across different geographical locations. Experiments show that WildIng enhances the accuracy of foundation models such as BioCLIP by 30% under geographical domain shift conditions. We evaluate WildIng on two datasets collected from different regions, namely America and Africa. ancestral y lo sagrado y desde la práctica artística encuentro un puente que me permite hacer visible las huellas de mi linaje y re configurar la identidad desde la dualidad, el espejo y la unión.This project emerges from a search to understand reflection not only as an image, but as a metaphor for connection and feminine identity rooted in the relationship between two bodies that share a common origin. Through artistic creation, I explore how the everyday, shadow, and relationships can reveal invisible dimensions of the feminine. Through a symbolic lens grounded in the elements—air, fire, earth, water, and reflection—I propose a reading of art as a process of healing and reconnection with the cyclical, the ancestral, and the sacred. No full textEste trabajo de grado busca visibilizar la violencia estructural arraigada en la ciudad de Medellín contra las mujeres trans que habitan la ciudad. Lo hace a través de un escrito dramatúrgico que permite adentrarse en la vida de Candy, una mujer que vive y trabaja en las calles de Medellín.
A través de una e propuesta inmersiva, el público se convierte en parte de la intimidad de su hogar y la exposición constante a una ciudad indolente frente a la violencia. Se invita así al espectador y lector no solo a asumir una postura crítica, sino también a cuestionarse sobre su propio papel, activo o pasivo, en la reproducción de estas violencias. ¿Es testigo silencioso? ¿Cómplice por omisión? ¿o como agresor directo?, La obra busca provocar un estado de autorreflexión profunda frente a los acontecimientos expuestos, generando conciencia sobre la responsabilidad colectiva en la transformación de estas realidades.
Esta creación se construye a partir de principios del teatro documental, llevando a escena acontecimientos, relatos y experiencias de mujeres reales.This undergraduate thesis seeks to make visible the structural violence rooted in the city of Medellín against trans women who live in the city. It does so through a dramaturgical text that allows the audience to delve into the life of Candy, a woman who lives and works on the streets of Medellín.
Through an immersive proposal, the audience becomes part of the intimacy of her home and of the constant exposure to a city that remains indifferent to violence. In this way, the spectator and reader are invited not only to adopt a critical stance, but also to question their own role—whether active or passive—in the reproduction of these forms of violence. Are they a silent witness? An accomplice through omission? Or a direct aggressor? The work seeks to provoke a state of deep self-reflection regarding the events presented, generating awareness about collective responsibility in transforming these realities.

The interplay of data-driven insights and AI anxiety in shaping the impact of AI capabilities on circular economy capability
No full textIn a world facing pressing environmental challenges like climate change and resource scarcity, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is widely regarded as a powerful tool to enhance and support sustainability goals via Circular Economy Capability (CEC). The organizational capacity to leverage this technology, Artificial Intelligence Capability (AIC), is conceptualized through the lens of the Resource-Based Theory (RBT) as the capacity to effectively implement and utilize AI to generate strategic value. However, the direct relationship between AIC and CEC is not straightforward. The purpose of this research is to investigate this nuanced relationship by examining how socio-technical factors such as Data-Driven Insights (DDI)—actionable inferences derived from analytics over data—and AI Anxiety—stemming from employees’ fear of job loss—shape the relationship between AIC and CEC. Using a moderated mediation model and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), we analyzed data from firms with moderate to high technology maturity. While the study’s results are primarily based on context-specific evidence, which invites further investigation into generalizability to other settings, our findings suggest that the direct effect of AIC on CEC is not significant. Instead, DDI significantly mediate the relationship, confirming that AIC must be bundled with actionable insights to create value. Crucially, AI anxiety negatively moderates the effect of DDI on CEC. This means that while organizations may generate valuable insights, employee resistance and fear hinder their effective translation into sustainability practices. No full textLas Memorias de grado Dios Bendiga el Reggaetón, Amén, indagan dentro de la cultura del reggaetón, explorando sus características estéticas y su estrecha relación con la iconografía religiosa. A través de este análisis, se cuestiona la dicotomía entre la alta y la baja cultura, evidenciando cómo el reggaetón ha resignificado elementos del arte sacro para construir su propia identidad visual y simbólica.
Desde la investigación y la creación artística, se abordan estas problemáticas iconográficas mediante estrategias pictóricas y gráficas que plantean una relación entre ambas estéticas, la eclesiástica y la blin blin. Este proceso permite señalar cómo el reggaetón no solo se ha apropiado de la iconografía religiosa, de la historia del arte y de la publicidad, sino que también ha redefinido su sentido, utilizándolo como herramienta para la construcción de una nueva idolatría urbana, basada en antiguos cimientos estéticos. A través de esta producción artística, se hace énfasis sobre el impacto del reggaetón en la identidad cultural de Antioquia, problematizando a través de reconfiguraciones pictóricas su influencia en la construcción de imaginarios sociales y estéticos dentro del contexto local y la extensión de este acervo latino a la esfera global.The thesis "God Bless Reggaeton, Amen" delves into reggaeton culture, exploring its aesthetic characteristics and its close relationship with religious iconography. Through this analysis, it questions the dichotomy between high and low culture, highlighting how reggaeton has redefined elements of sacred art to construct its own visual and symbolic identity.
From both research and artistic creation, these iconographic issues are addressed through pictorial and graphic strategies that establish a connection between ecclesiastical and bling-bling aesthetics. This process underscores how reggaeton has not only appropriated religious iconography, art history, and advertising but has also redefined their meanings, using them as tools for constructing a new form of urban idolatry rooted in ancient aesthetic foundations.
Through this artistic production, the impact of reggaeton on the cultural identity of Antioquia becomes evident, problematizing its influence on the construction of social and aesthetic imaginaries within both local and global contexts through pictorial reconfigurations.PregradoMaestro en Artes Plástica
Educación popular y acceso a la universidad pública: sistematización de la experiencia del Preuniversitario Popular Pachakuti
No full textEste trabajo analiza la experiencia del Preuniversitario Popular Barriada, proceso formativo y organizativo impulsado por el Colectivo de Trabajo Pachakuti, entre 2008 y 2016, con jóvenes de barrios periféricos del Valle de Aburrá. En un contexto marcado por desigualdades estructurales, políticas neoliberales y un sistema de acceso a la educación superior que excluye sistemáticamente a las poblaciones empobrecidas, el preuniversitario se constituyó en una estrategia de resistencia desde abajo para disputar el derecho a la universidad pública.
La investigación examina cómo esta iniciativa —conformada principalmente por estudiantes universitarios— articuló nivelación académica, formación crítica, trabajo comunitario y prácticas pedagógicas con enfoque popular. A través de ello, logró acompañar a jóvenes posbachilleres en la superación de la prueba de admisión, al tiempo que promovió subjetividades políticas, conciencia de clase y organización colectiva.
Mediante la recuperación y sistematización de la experiencia, se evidencia que el Preuniversitario Popular Barriada no solo aumentó las posibilidades de acceso a la educación superior, sino que también fortaleció procesos de concientización, redes solidarias y vínculos entre universidad y territorio. El estudio concluye que las educaciones en contexto, las pedagogías críticas y las acciones afirmativas desde abajo son claves para enfrentar la reproducción de la desigualdad y para reivindicar la educación pública como derecho y como herramienta de transformación social.This work analyzes the experience of the Preuniversitario Popular Barriada, a formative and organizational process carried out by the Pachakuti Collective between 2008 and 2016 with young people from peripheral neighborhoods of the Aburrá Valley. In a context marked by structural inequalities, neoliberal policies, and a system of access to higher education that systematically excludes impoverished populations, the pre-university program became a grassroots strategy to defend the right to public university education. The research examines how this initiative —led mainly by university students— combined academic leveling, critical formation, community work, and popular-education-oriented pedagogical practices. Through this approach, it supported post-secondary youth in preparing for and overcoming the admission exam, while simultaneously fostering political subjectivities, class consciousness, and collective organization. Through the recovery and systematization of this experience, it becomes evident that the Preuniversitario Popular Barriada not only increased opportunities for access to higher education, but also strengthened processes of critical awareness, solidarity networks, and connections between the university and local territories. The study concludes that contextual educations, critical pedagogies, and bottom-up affirmative actions are essential for confronting the reproduction of inequality and for reclaiming public education as a right and as a tool for social transformation.PregradoSociólogo(a
Acompañar para Permanecer Propuesta de intervención para el fortalecimiento de la permanencia estudiantil
No full textEl proyecto de intervención Acompañar para Permanecer se desarrolló en la Unidad de Bienestar de la Facultad de Enfermería de la Universidad de Antioquia en el marco de las prácticas profesionales II y III de Trabajo Social (2025-1 y 2025-2). Su propósito fue fortalecer la permanencia estudiantil mediante el acompañamiento integral principalmente a estudiantes foráneos, reconociendo las particularidades socioculturales y territoriales que influyen en su adaptación a la vida universitaria y a la ciudad.
La intervención se sustentó en la teoría ecológica del desarrollo humano de Bronfenbrenner y en el enfoque diferencial, metodológicamente se implementó un enfoque participativo e integral desde el método integrado de Trabajo Social, articulando acciones de apoyo emocional, reconocimiento de la diversidad cultural, acceso a recursos institucionales y construcción de redes de apoyo.
El informe presenta una valoración del proceso, dentro de los principales resultados se destacan la creación de espacios de encuentro intercultural, el fortalecimiento del sentido de pertenencia, la visibilización de la diversidad estudiantil y el aumento del acceso a programas de bienestar. El informe concluye con recomendaciones para la sostenibilidad del programa y una reflexión sobre el aporte del Trabajo Social en la promoción de una permanencia educativa más humana, inclusiva y equitativa.The intervention project Acompañar para Permanecer (Accompany to Stay) was developed in the Welfare Unit of the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Antioquia within the framework of Professional Practices II and III in Social Work (2025-1 and 2025-2). Its purpose was to strengthen student retention through comprehensive support, mainly for foreign students, recognizing the sociocultural and territorial particularities that influence their adaptation to university life and the city.
The intervention was based on Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory of human development and the differential approach. Methodologically, a participatory and comprehensive approach was implemented using the integrated social work method, coordinating actions for emotional support, recognition of cultural diversity, access to institutional resources, and the construction of support networks.
The report presents an assessment of the process. Among the main results, the creation of spaces for intercultural encounter, the strengthening of a sense of belonging, the visibility of student diversity, and increased access to welfare programs stand out. The report concludes with recommendations for the sustainability of the program and a reflection on the contribution of social work in promoting a more humane, inclusive, and equitable educational permanence.PregradoTrabajador(a) Socia

No full textArquitecturas blandas: Artefactos de contingencia afectiva, es un documento recopilatorio sobre mi proceso artístico desde un enfoque transdisciplinar, cuyo transcurso se centró en el planteamiento de alternativas especulativas sobre el espacio; en una búsqueda de derivas que permiten, desde la práctica artística, otras configuraciones más amplias, interactivas, inventadas y transitables del territorio.
El escrito aquí presente es un grupo de reflexiones realizadas desde el género epistolar, las cuales abordan mis preguntas alrededor de la arquitectura, el espacio público, el cuerpo y la colectividad. Las cartas que se encuentran a continuación son una serie de divagaciones y cuestionamientos que me han atravesado sobre la vida urbana, marcadas fuertemente por mis experiencias de autorreconocimiento identitario y las dinámicas del centro histórico de la ciudad de Medellín. Aquí están los bocetos, maquetas y objetos sobre los cuales he especulado, que no trasformarán el mundo, pero que se proponen de algún modo, afectarlo.

Degree memories: Temples of glitter
No full textEstas memorias de grado corresponden a mi proyecto de investigación–creación, desarrollado durante el pregrado en Artes Plásticas de la Universidad de Antioquia, el cual reflexiona sobre las tensiones entre alta y baja cultura en Medellín, así como sobre los imaginarios del deseo, el poder y el consumo que configuran la identidad urbana. A lo largo del proceso, se exploró cómo los objetos populares y las estéticas cotidianas condensan los valores simbólicos de una sociedad atravesada por la estratificación social, la narco-cultura y la cultura aspiracional. Desde una mirada crítica y situada, la investigación indaga cómo el artificio, el humor y el exceso pueden convertirse en lenguajes para comprender las paradojas culturales que habitan el territorio.
La metodología del proyecto combina la etnografía urbana con estrategias de recolección, apropiación y resignificación de objetos encontrados. Este proceso dio lugar a diferentes propuestas artísticas que variaron entre el collage, escultura, ready made e instalación, todas configurando un retrato crítico de la ciudad desde sus prácticas de consumo. En conjunto, el proceso permitió consolidar un cuerpo de obra que articula lo estético con lo social, proponiendo una lectura simbólica de Medellín desde sus residuos, sus ficciones y sus imaginarios aspiracionales.These undergraduate thesis papers correspond to my research-creation project, developed during my undergraduate studies in Fine Arts at the University of Antioquia, which reflects on the tensions between high and low culture in Medellín, as well as on the imaginaries of desire, power, and consumption that shape urban identity. Throughout the process, I explored how popular objects and everyday aesthetics condense the symbolic values of a society marked by social stratification, narco-culture, and aspirational culture. From a critical and situated perspective, the research investigates how artifice, humor, and excess can become languages for understanding the cultural paradoxes that inhabit the territory.
The project's methodology combines urban ethnography with strategies for collecting, appropriating, and re-signifying found objects. This process gave rise to different artistic proposals that ranged from collage, sculpture, ready-made, and installation, all of which shaped a critical portrait of the city based on its consumption practices. Taken together, the process allowed for the consolidation of a body of work that articulates the aesthetic with the social, proposing a symbolic reading of Medellín based on its waste, its fictions, and its aspirational imaginaries.PregradoMaestro en Artes Plástica

No full textEn la gestión hospitalaria, confiar en las predicciones de una inteligencia artificial (IA) tiene un riesgo asociado, en entornos de alto riesgo como la salud, es esencial entender el por qué los modelos llegan a sus conclusiones. La explicabilidad hace posible identificar las características más relevantes tanto para las predicciones globales, como para las predicciones locales de un sistema, lo que permite a los usuarios comprender la razón detrás de cada decisión hecha por el modelo, ya sea a nivel de un caso individual o la totalidad del sistema. Este proyecto propone un pipeline para seleccionar el mejor algoritmo de explicabilidad, enfocándose en el contexto de la gestión hospitalaria, considerando la importancia de la transparencia de la inteligencia artificial contextualizada en entornos médicos. La metodología incluye una revisión bibliográfica de las técnicas existentes y su uso en diferentes aplicaciones, incluyendo el ámbito de la salud, con este propósito, se definirán métricas para evaluar la calidad de sus explicaciones y comparar las distintas opciones disponibles. Luego, se desarrollará el pipeline para poder seleccionar e implementar la alternativa que cumpla con los criterios y objetivos establecidos para cada trabajo en particular. Finalmente, se probarán los resultados obtenidos con datos cuyos valores esperados sean conocidos, de manera que pueda confirmarse que los cálculos obtenidos son correctos. Tras el desarrollo del pipeline, se utilizó un modelo de Random Forest con datos de MIMIC IV, SHAP demostró mayor fidelidad y un comportamiento ideal para entornos que requieren trazabilidad. Mientras que LIME ofreció explicaciones simples, rápidas, útiles para decisiones rápidas.In hospital management, relying on AI predictions carries inherent risks, in high-risk environments such as healthcare, it is essential to understand why models arrive at their conclusions . Explainability makes it possible to identify the most relevant features both in global and local predictions, allowing users to comprehend the rationale behind each decision made by the system , whether on an individual case or at a systemic level. This project proposes a pipeline to select the most suitable explainability algorithm, focusing on the context of hospital management and emphasizing the importance of transparency in AI applied to medical settings. The methodology includes a literature review of existing techniques and their applications, particularly in healthcare. Metrics will be defined to evaluate the quality of the explanations and compare different options. Subsequently, the pipeline will be developed to implement the alternative that meets the criteria and objectives for each particular work. Finally, the system will be tested using data with known outcomes to validate the correctness of the results. After developing the pipeline, a Random Forest model was trained using MIMIC-IV data. SHAP showed higher fidelity and proved suitable for contexts requiring traceability, while LIME provided simpler and faster explanations, making it more useful for real-time clinical decision making.PregradoBioingenier
