Impact of Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Interventions on Breastfeeding Success, Maternal Self-Efficacy and Satisfaction: A Scoping Review
Purpose: This scoping review explores the impact of face-to-face Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BFPC) interventions on exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) prevalence at six months, maternal self-efficacy, and satisfaction. Background: BFPCs are recognized as key figures in increasing EBF rates and improving health outcomes, especially within at-risk and underserved communities. Methods: A scoping review was conducted on literature published between January 2019 and March 2024, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). 493 records were identified, of which 282 were selected based on title and abstract. Two reviewers critically appraise 85 full-text articles using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) quality assessment tools. Discrepancies were resolved with two additional reviewers. Finally, 20 high-quality studies were included in the review. Results: Prenatal home visits and group support have been associated with an increase of EBF initiation rates. Postnatal home interventions with at least a two-month follow-up significantly improved EBF prevalence at six months. Discussion and Conclusions: BFPCs’ cultural proximity to mothers builds trust and facilitates breastfeeding knowledge acquisition and problem-solving. Home visits provide closeness and emotional support, while community groups offer a trusted environment for mothers to share their concerns and challenges. Implications for Research: The social learning facilitated by BFPCs underscores the importance of their integration into healthcare systems. However, global standardization of BFPC training and practice is essential for their worldwide expansion. Future studies should employ validated tools to assess maternal self-efficacy and satisfaction. Additionally, research should explore the impact of BFPCs in developed countries
Using control bias to identify initial targets for bioproduction improvement
Sensitivity analysis of bioprocess metabolic reaction networks analysis allows the prediction of system parameters such as those associated with the enzyme activity of certain reaction steps which significantly affect the overall production. However, uncertainties in kinetic rate expressions and in the resulting steady-state flux distributions limit the accuracy of these predictions. Starting from minimal information (reaction stoichiometry, and external fluxes in/out of the system and potentially identification of steps at equilibrium) a new preliminary method is proposed using sampling of elasticities and metabolic fluxes to calculate the control bias. The calculated control bias identifies steps which are likely to have positive control, negative control or negligible/uncertain control. This is intended to give initial guidance before further detailed investigation is carried out, identifying targets for any organism to enhance production of valuable chemicals. As a case study, this methodology is applied to succinic acid bioproduction using Actinobacillus succinogenes and analysis successfully reveals the reaction steps having the greatest positive and negative influence on biosuccinic acid production
The Cava Protected Designation of Origin possesses a unique historical configuration, normatively grounded in its traditional production method but characterized by a discontinuous territorial demarcation that dilutes the link between the product and its geographical origin. In response to this framework, a group of producers previously protected by said PDO withdrew to promote the European Union collective mark “Corpinnat”, aiming to market sparkling wines under rigorous technical specifications and offering consumers an exclusive territorial link to the Penedès region. From a legal-dogmatic perspective, this research analyzes the legal nature and coexistence of both distinctive signs. It seeks to determine whether their overlap constitutes a legitimate expression of complementarity within the trademark and geographical indication systems or, conversely, reveals a structural
limitation of the PDO in fulfilling its guarantee and origin functions. The research concludes that while their coexistence is legally viable, a comparative analysis suggests the need for regulatory improvements to prevent inconsistencies with the doctrinal purposes and legal functions attributed to each figure in practice
Climate Change Education in Secondary Schools: Gaps, Challenges and Transformative Pathways
Climate change education (CCE) is increasingly recognized as a key lever for responding to the climate crisis, yet its implementation in schools often remains fragmented and weakly transformative. This review synthesizes international research on CCE in secondary education, focusing on four interconnected domains: students’ social representations of climate change (SRCC), curricular frameworks, teaching practices and teacher professional development, and emerging pathways towards transformative, justice-oriented CCE. A narrative review of empirical and theoretical studies reveals that students’ SRCC are generally superficial, fragmented and marked by persistent misconceptions, psychological distance and low perceived agency. Curricular frameworks tend to locate climate change mainly within natural sciences, reproduce deficit-based and behaviorist models and leave social, political and ethical dimensions underdeveloped. Teaching practices remain predominantly transmissive and science-centered, while teachers report limited training, time and institutional support, especially for addressing the affective domain and working transdisciplinarily. At the same time, the literature highlights promising directions: calls for an “emergency curriculum” and deeper curricular environmentalization, the potential of socio-scientific issues and complexity-based approaches, narrative and arts-based strategies, school gardens and community projects, and growing attention to emotions, hope and climate justice. Drawing on a narrative and integrative review of empirical and theoretical studies, the article identifies recurrent patterns and gaps in current CCE research and outlines priorities for future inquiry. The review argues that bridging the knowledge–action gap in schools requires aligning curriculum, pedagogy and teacher learning around four key principles—climate justice, collective agency, affective engagement and global perspectives—and outlines implications for policy, practice and research to support more transformative and socially just CCE
Revealing lies: The fake as an artistic practice against defactualisation
Objective: To evaluate the level of knowledge of dentists working in public and private healthcare networks regarding the use of dental amalgam. Methodology: The cross- sectional study used a convenience sample composed of 16 dentists working in the public and private sectors. Data collection was carried out through a printed questionnaire, containing objective questions and additional questions intended to deepen the analysis on the topic. Data Analysis: The data obtained were organized and presented in tables, accompanied by descriptive analysis. For the interpretation of the questionnaire responses, as well as to verify the possible influence of professional training time on the results, the statistical software SPSS 25.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) was used. Results: A statistically significant difference was observed between public and private units regarding the use of amalgam, the instruments employed, and the replacement of restorations. However, with respect to operative isolation, safety, environmental and human health risks, curricular content, and material disposal, the discrepancies observed were minimal. Furthermore, the length of professional experience showed no significant association with the use of amalgam. Conclusion: The results highlight the need for continuous updating and training of dentists regarding the risks, handling, and proper disposal of amalgam, in order to promote safer, ethical, and sustainable clinical practices.Objetivo: Avaliar o nível de conhecimento dos cirurgiões-dentistas atuantes nas redes públicas e privadas acerca da utilização do amálgama dental. A serendipitous synthesis of N,N′‑Diethyloxamide: crystallographic and computational analysis of its solid‑state structure‑Diethyloxamide: crystallogra
A combined crystallographic/computational analysis focused on the supramolecular features of the crystal structure of N,N′-diethyloxamide (NNDO) is discussed in this work. The studied compound was obtained unexpectedly during the synthesis of a series of salts of cyclic oximes derivatives. In the solid state NNDO is stabilized essentially through a strong N–H···O hydrogen bond but Hirshfeld surface analysis and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were carried out to evalu-ate the strength of the predominant hydrogen bonds observed in the X-ray structure, as well as the secondary C–H···O and C–H···N contacts established between the ethyl groups and the perpendicular dioxamide group. These interactions were further investigated using a combination of Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules (QTAIM), Non-Covalent Interaction Plot (NCIplot) and natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis computational tools, and were rationalized using Molecular Elec-trostatic Potential (MEP) surface, electron localization function (ELF), localized orbital locator (LOL) and Fukui function calculations. The insights gathered in this study enrich the understanding of the factors governing crystal packing in amides and related compounds
How teachers' appraisals predict their emotional experience: Identifying protective and risk structures in natural appraisals
This paper studies the narratives of 73 teachers and analyzes how different narrative structures predict teachers' emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, personal accomplishment, well-being, and resilience. We found that 'they know how'-, 'they can'-, and 'I do'-type narrative structures were protective for emotional exhaustion and well-being, while 'they don't want'-, 'they can't'-, 'they don't do'-, and 'I don't do'-type structures were risky for emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, resilience and well-being. These results provide evidence of the differential role of appraisal in teachers' emotions, as well as the types of narrative structures that should be promoted in the construction and reconstruction of teachers' appraisals
Construcció del Cos de Classes de Hilbert
Treballs Finals de Grau de Matemàtiques, Facultat de Matemàtiques, Universitat de Barcelona, Any: 2026, Director: Xavier Guitart Morales[en] This work provides a complete proof regarding the construction of a very important abelian extension within the branch of Class Field Theory, known as the Hilbert class field. The first chapter is devoted to a detailed explanation of what class fields are. In the second chapter, the concepts of lattices, elliptic functions, and the j-invariant of a lattice are introduced. Finally, the third and last chapter focuses on viewing this invariant as a function on the upper half-plane, which leads to the Theory of Modular Functions and allows one to prove that the Hilbert class field is exactly the extension obtained by adjoining to an imaginary quadratic field the image of any ideal of its ring of integers under the j-function.
Table Tennis for Health: A Multidimensional Perspective on Its Physical, Emotional, and Social Advantages
Background/Objectives: Table tennis is commonly perceived as a recreational or competitive sport; however, growing evidence highlights its potential as a multidimensional
tool for health promotion. This study investigates the perceived physical, cognitive, emotional, and social benefits of regular table tennis practice, emphasizing its contribution to
health beyond the purely sporting dimension. Methods: A mixed-method design with a
predominantly quantitative approach was employed. A structured questionnaire was administered to 329 table tennis players in Catalonia. Descriptive statistics, exploratory factor
analysis (EFA), multiple linear regression, Pearson correlations, and hierarchical cluster
analysis (Ward’s method) were conducted to examine perceived benefits and identify user
profiles. Factor analysis revealed two dimensions: physical–cognitive and emotional–social
benefits. Results: The EFA produced a robust two-factor structure, explaining 76.6% of
the variance (KMO = 0.941; Bartlett’s test, p < 0.001). Both dimensions showed excellent
internal consistency (Cronbach’s α > 0.91). Regression analysis demonstrated that both
factors significantly predicted the overall perception of table tennis as a health-enhancing
activity (R2 = 0.199), with physical–cognitive benefits exerting the strongest effect (β = 0.375;
p < 0.001). Cluster analysis identified three distinct profiles: Skeptical, Functional, and
Integrative—with significant differences in perceived benefits (η
2 = 0.710 for the emotional–
social factor). Conclusions: Table tennis emerges as an inclusive, low-impact activity
with strong potential to foster physical, emotional, and social well-being. Its accessibility
and adaptability make it appropriate for diverse populations. These findings support its
inclusion in public health strategies and community programs promoting holistic wellness.
Future research should further explore motivational drivers across profiles and extend
analyses to underrepresented populations
