Polish Aid: (the Difficult) Process of Institutionalisation Amid Politics and Society
No full textThe publication covers the twenty-year process of institutionalisation of Polish development cooperation and the importance of its socio-political environment for this process: international institutions and organisations, public administration bodies, the non-governmental sector, private enterprises, representatives of the Polish parliament, and citizens themselves, not only those involved in development aid activities.It presents a diagnosis of the state of the institution based on research, as well as an analysis of the reforms necessary for it in the context of changes taking place in the international environment, including those concerning the balance of power in the development cooperation environment, the growing need for humanitarian activities, and Poland\u27s plan to participate in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.The aim of the book is to contribute to the development of research on the institution of aid from the perspective not only of the hard rules and strategies it outlines, but also of the values and behaviours associated with the culture of aid and co-created by its institutional environment. The publication also serves as a voice in the still niche scientific and expert discussion on Polish Aid, its essence for Poland\u27s international relations as a member of the “club of the richest Western donors,” and its importance for a greater understanding of global challenges and sustainable development by citizens

No full textHOW TO SPELL UKRAINIAN CORRECTLY: HANDBOOK OF SPELLING AND PUNCTUATION FOR FOREIGNERS
The handbook is intended for those who are learning Ukrainian as a foreign language and want to deepen their knowledge of its spelling. It is the first work in the history of foreign Ukrainian studies devoted exclusively to the issues of spelling and punctuation, taking into account the rules of Ukrainian spelling from 2019. The textbook consists of two parts. The first one includes 20 topics in the areas of orthography and punctuation, as well as exercises and tests to master the material. The second part includes tests to verify knowledge in these areas. Among the proposed topics are also those that are not always represented in Ukrainian language textbooks designed for Ukrainians, but are relevant for foreigners. All of the tests and some of the exercises were competition tasks at the National Ukrainian Spelling Contest (2006–2015) and the International Ukrainian Spelling Contest (2016–present), organized by the Jagiellonian University. For hundreds of foreign students learning Ukrainian, they were a real test of their knowledge of its orthography. We recommend the handbook to all those who want to improve their comprehension of the spelling rules of the language.Jak poprawnie pisać po ukraińsku. Podręcznik ortografii i interpunkcji dla obcokrajowców przeznaczony jest dla tych, którzy uczą się języka ukraińskiego jako obcego i chcą pogłębić swoją znajomość jego pisowni. Jest to pierwsza praca w historii zagranicznych studiów ukrainistycznych poświęcona wyłącznie zagadnieniom ortografii i interpunkcji, uwzględniająca zasady pisowni ukraińskiej od 2019 roku. Podręcznik składa się z dwóch części. Pierwsza obejmuje 20 tematów z obszaru zasad pisowni oraz ćwiczenia i testy pozwalające opanować materiał. Druga zawiera testy sprawdzające wiedzę z zakresu ortografii i interpunkcji. Wśród proponowanych tematów znajdują się również takie, które nie zawsze są reprezentowane w podręcznikach do języka ukraińskiego przeznaczonych dla Ukraińców, ale są istotne dla obcokrajowców. Wszystkie testy i część ćwiczeń były zadaniami konkursowymi na Ogólnopolskim Konkursie Ortograficznym z Języka Ukraińskiego (2006–2015) i Międzynarodowym Konkursie Ortograficznym z Języka Ukraińskiego (2016–obecnie), które organizował Uniwersytet Jagielloński. Dla setek zagranicznych studentów uczących się języka ukraińskiego były one sprawdzianem znajomości jego ortografii. Podręcznik polecamy wszystkim, którzy chcą doskonalić swoją wiedzę o pisowni tego języka

Spotkaliśmy się, aby wymienić poglądy, zdefiniować problemy, przedyskutować kluczowe kwestie; próbowaliśmy ustalić, jak możemy sprostać oczekiwaniom dynamicznie zmieniającej się rzeczywistości, w jaki sposób dobierać treści nauczania, a przede wszystkim – jak służyć pomocą uczącym się.

No full textTHE LAST WILLS OF THE BURGHERS OF BOCHNIA (SIXTEENTH AND SEVENTEENTH CENTURIES)
A will carries substantial amounts of information about the life of the person who wrote it, dictated it or accepted the existing form. In this work, the last will is presented as a document subject to conventions and a source revealing an image, albeit an incomplete one, of the testator. 531 burghers’ wills were analysed (261 belonging to men, 256 to women, 14 to married couples) of the 635 surviving last wills of the inhabitants of modern Bochnia, almost 98% of which were entered in the municipal records. The main sources queried were the municipal records, but also other sources held in Kraków archives and others: the National Archives, the Archives of the Province of the Bernardine Fathers, the Archives of the Metropolitan Curia and St. Nicholas Parish in Bochnia. The timeframe of the book is determined by the state of preservation of the sources. One of the oldest burgher wills analysed was written by Mikołaj Długosz in 1487, while the most recent document by Grzegorz Serkowski was dated 1787. As it is difficult to draw conclusions on the basis of just ten extant wills from the eighteenth century, this century was not included in the study, nor was the fifteenth century.Testament przynosi wiele informacji o życiu osoby, która go pisała, dyktowała czy zaakceptowała istniejący formularz. W niniejszej publikacji akt ostatniej woli został przedstawiony jako dokument podporządkowany konwencjom i źródło ukazujące wizerunek – choć niekompletny – testatora. Autor poddał analizie 531 testamentów mieszczan (261 wystawionych przez mężczyzn, 256 przez kobiety, 14 małżeńskich) spośród 635 zachowanych aktów ostatniej woli mieszkańców nowożytnej Bochni, z których prawie 98% wpisano do ksiąg miejskich. Kwerendą objął głównie księgi miejskie, ale również inne źródła przechowywane m.in. w krakowskich archiwach – Archiwum Narodowym, Archiwum Prowincji OO. Bernardynów, Archiwum Kurii Metropolitalnej i parafii św. Mikołaja w Bochni. Ramy czasowe książki determinuje stan zachowania źródeł. Jeden z najstarszych przeanalizowanych testamentów mieszczańskich wystawił Mikołaj Długosz w 1487 r., najpóźniej oblatowany został zaś dokument Grzegorza Serkowskiego w 1787 r. Ponieważ trudno wysnuwać wnioski na podstawie zaledwie dziesięciu zachowanych testamentów z XVIII w., stulecie to nie zostało uwzględnione w badaniach, podobnie jak XV w. Autor ukazał jednak ogólnikowo różnice i podobieństwa w treści i formie testamentów pochodzących z tego czasu i tych z XVI i XVII w

No full textCHANGED: THE IMAGE OF MARIA KOMORNICKA FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF (AUTO)BIOGRAFICTIONStudies on the diversity of Maria Komornicka’s cultural attire grew out of the concept of (auto)biografiction in the approach of Stephen Reynolds and Max Saunders. The subject of interest was the „Changeling” attire permanently adopted by the poet on a July night in 1907, the ambiguity of which inspire several different interpretations. Komornicka’s adoption of attire that was socially and culturally assigned to men at that time (she burns women’s dresses, dons men’s clothing and proclaims herself the incarnation of Piotr Włast’s descendant, giving herself a male name and the nickname „Changeling”) is in fact an escape into human creation in general. This is where all the „deformations” of form in her attire originate from: from androgyne to an angel (as the most perfect embodiment of androgyne), and then to a child (as an asexual being). In each of the works submitted to comparative analysis – the theatre play White Marriage by Tadeusz Różewicz (1973), the film White Marriage by Magdalena Łazarkiewicz (1992), the stage work Book of Em by Izabela Filipiak (2005), and the fictionalized biography Different from Myself by Brygida Helbig (2016) – the use of (auto)biografiction research reveals, on the one hand, the diversity of the representations of Komornicka that appear in them. On the other hand, the multiplicity of paths leading to their modulated versions by expanding the space adjacent to it through what determines their generic opacity, in a sense translating into the genological intricacy embedded in the matter of the texts. The first chapter revolves around the definition of the concept of (auto)biografiction, its genesis, components taken from Komornicka/Włast’s work and beyond. Their presence in the source materials determines that they can be described as experiments with the (life)writing of Maria Komornicka / Piotr Odmieniec Włast from the 19th century to the present. The second chapter outlines the figure of Komornicka/Włast in the light of her/his legacy and the memory of her/ his contemporaries. The third chapter is a synthetic review of the previous findings on the works of the author of The Devils from a critical perspective. The fourth chapter, which is more extensive in its content than the previous ones, focuses on exposing the similarities and discrepancies in the way the poet perceives the ultimately undefined creation of the „Changeling”.W 1907 roku Maria Komornicka pali w kominku poznańskiego hotelu Bazar swoje suknie, przywdziewa męski ubiór i imię z przydomkiem Odmieniec, obwołując się wcieleniem potomka Piotra Własta. Stanowią skutek powstawania podobieństw i przeciwieństw między elementami zaczerpniętymi z listów i tekstów napisanych przez nią, traktujących o niej i pochodzących spoza jej spuścizny. W publikacji Odmieniona. Wizerunek Marii Komornickiej z perspektywy (auto)biografikcji Wiktoria Krawczyk zgłębia opisane eksperymenty z (życio)pisaniem od XIX wieku po teraźniejszość, poddając analizie porównawczej Białe małżeństwo Tadeusza Różewicza, film Magdaleny Łazarkiewicz pod takim samym tytułem, Księgę Em Izabeli Filipiak i Inną od siebie / Innego od siebie samego Brygidy Helbig. No full textUNIVERSITY MUSEUMS – HISTORY, COLLECTIONS, ACTIVITIES: A MODEL FOR THE PROTECTION OF COLLECTIONS AND THE CREATION OF A MUSEUM UNIT WITHIN THE STRUCTURE OF A UNIVERSITY, USING THE JAGIELLONIAN UNIVERSITY AS AN EXAMPLE
The work introduces the specificity of museums and para-museum units located in the structures of universities. The main goal is to characterize museums and collections. The author has adopted a broad perspective that takes into account examples of university museums from around the world to show trends in their formation and development. On this basis, the types of museums and collections, the context of their establishment, perception and basic definitional and organizational problems accompanying them will be determined. The comparison and outlining the historical background are aimed not only at bringing closer the specificity and particularity of university museums but are also an attempt to build greater awareness and recognition for the phenomenon, role and achievements of this environment. This specific group of museum units, however, brings together many dilemmas that result from their location at the junction of two realities – scientific and cultural, which raises a number of research problems.The dissertation consists of three chapters. The starting point was to outline the global genesis of university museums and draw attention to the problematic and unique nature of these museum units. In the next part, the situation of the Polish environment of university museums and academic collections is presented, and then one of the models of academic heritage protection considering various forms of museums and organizational formulas of units in the structure of the university is presented.Praca przybliża specyfikę muzeów i jednostek paramuzealnych ulokowanych w strukturach szkół wyższych. Głównym celem jest charakterystyka muzeów i kolekcji. Autorka przyjęła szeroką perspektywę, która uwzględnia przykłady muzeów uczelnianych z całego świata, aby pokazać tendencje w ich formowaniu i rozwoju. Na tej podstawie określone zostaną rodzaje muzeów i kolekcji, kontekst ich powoływania, postrzegania oraz podstawowe problemy definicyjne i organizacyjne im towarzyszące. Przeprowadzane porównanie, zarysowanie tła historycznego zmierzają nie tylko do przybliżenia specyfiki i szczególności muzeów uczelnianych, ale są również próbą zbudowania większej świadomości i uznania dla fenomenu, roli i osiągnięć tego środowiska. Ta specyficzna grupa jednostek muzealnych skupia w sobie jednak wiele dylematów, wynikających z ich ulokowania na styku dwóch rzeczywistości ‒ naukowej i kulturalnej, która rodzi szereg problemów badawczych.Dysertacja składa się z trzech rozdziałów. Punktem wyjścia było zarysowanie globalnej genezy muzeów uczelnianych i zwrócenie uwagi na problematyczność i wyjątkowość tych jednostek muzealnych. No full textSENTENCED TO EACH OTHER?: THE DETERMINANTS AND PROFITABILITY OF COOPERATION BETWEEN POLAND AND GERMANY IN THE LEGISLATIVE PROCESS OF THE EUROPEAN UNIONThe book explores the state, key determinants, and profitability of cooperation between Poland and Germany in the legislative process of the European Union (EU), with a particular focus on two institutions: the Council and the European Parliament (EP). It examines not only how this cooperation functions and whether it is beneficial for both countries but also what factors influence its extent and effectiveness in negotiations. The book formulates several hypotheses derived from various theories, anticipating the impact of specific predictors on Poland and Germany’s willingness to cooperate and the usefulness of such cooperation in advancing their interests in the Council and EP. These hypotheses are tested empirically using quantitative methods (e.g., linear and logistic regression) based on datasets designed by the author. Additionally, quantitative predictive models are developed to estimate the likelihood of Poland and Germany forming coalitions on future legislative proposals and the level of bargaining success they might achieve by aligning their preferences. Furthermore, based on these findings, the book offers recommendations for policymakers that should enhance cooperation between both countries and increase its influence on their success in the EU legislative process.Celem książki jest analiza stanu, determinantów oraz opłacalności współpracy Polski i Niemiec w procesie legislacyjnym Unii Europejskiej, w szczególności w dwóch instytucjach UE: Radzie i Parlamencie Europejskim (PE). Przedmiotem zainteresowania jest nie tylko to, jak kooperacja tych państw wygląda i czy jest dla nich korzystna, ale również to, jakie czynniki determinują jej poziom oraz skuteczność w negocjacjach. W książce sformułowano szereg hipotez wyprowadzonych z różnych teorii, przewidujących wpływ określonych predyktorów na skłonność tych państw do współpracy oraz jej użyteczność w forsowaniu ich interesów w Radzie i PE. Hipotezy te zweryfikowano empirycznie przy użyciu metod ilościowych (np. regresji liniowej czy logistycznej) na bazach danych zaprojektowanych przez autora. Opracowano także ilościowe modele predykcyjne, które pozwolą przewidywać, jaka będzie szansa na zbudowanie koalicji Polski i Niemiec w przypadku przyszłych projektów oraz jaki poziom sukcesu kraje te osiągną w wyniku zbliżenia swoich preferencji. Ponadto na podstawie uzyskanych wyników sformułowano rekomendacje dla decydentów, których zastosowanie powinno zwiększyć kooperację między tymi państwami oraz jej wpływ na ich skuteczność w procesie legislacyjnym UE
