This study aims to examine the student learning outcomes associated with service-learning in a first-year leadership course. With this broad focus, we hope to shed light on the benefits of students participating in civic engagement in their first semester of college. Findings suggest student learning outcomes include interpersonal skills, leadership capacity, and social justice perspectives. We conclude by offering considerations for designing future courses

No full textThe Special Olympics (SO) FUNfitness Program involves a comprehensive screening for flexibility, strength, balance, and aerobic fitness for individuals with intellectual disability (ID). Doctor of Physical Therapy students at Indiana State University administer the program yearly as part of the Indiana SO Summer Games. Thematic analysis of student reflections revealed increased awareness of individuals with ID, both beneficial and challenging aspects of the experience, and increased likelihood of working with underserved populations in the future

University Students Pilot a Community Survey at Ciclovia
No full textSocial work students at a southeastern university piloted a community perception and attachment survey during a local Ciclovia event. Results indicated that a majority of participants held a generally positive view of the community (91%), while perceptions of specific aspects of the community and neighborhoods varied depending on individual items. Implications for use of students in community surveys are explored in addition to a presentation of the overall results of the survey
An Examination of Benefits Between Massage Therapy and Mental Health
No full textMental health affects millions of people every year, which is why finding effective treatment methods are important. This paper goes into a deep dive into the practice of massage therapy and its promising intervention for treated mental health disorders. Studies on the physiology of psychiatric disorders on the mental and physical states of the body will be reviewed. Following the examination of the effect the disorders have on the body, an examination of the effects of massage therapy on the physical and mental aspects of a psychiatric disorder will be provided. The findings show that massage therapy works to reduce tension and pain in the physical body which begins to release neurotransmitters that effectively reduce symptoms of mental health disorders. Beyond the physical aspects of benefits, massage therapy has been shown to create a sense of calm and comfort in the environment of a massage room, ultimately reducing symptoms of mental health disorders. Massage therapy has become a valuable method for promoting mental health and well-being. The holistic approach addresses both the physical and psychological aspects of mental health disorders

Architects of Influence: Pioneers Who Shaped Today\u27s Architecture
No full textArchitecture is a world that many people take advantage of and don’t understand the complexity behind it. There are many people in history who made a path for the way the world functions today, some of these people are architects. There are five men specifically: Antoni Gaudi, Frank Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Meis Van Der Rohe, Le Corbusier, and Louis Kahn, who pioneered the way for technology, education, aesthetics, and functionality of architecture. By researching we can learn who they were, what they did, and how they did it. Each one of these architects had different struggles, goals, backgrounds, and ideas. Their lifetime spans a total of 122 years, ending in 1974 with Louis Kahn. That means 50 years after the end of Louis Kahn they are still impacting architecture. All five of them crossed over and learned from one another to create buildings that are still standing today. There are many examples of their work spread across the world: France, England, Switzerland, Japan, New York, Chicago, Germany, and Barcelona are a few. Without their hard work and passion for architecture the world would not know what skyscrapers, open concepts, or organic buildings are

Mobile apps have become the preferred method of sports bettors, due to the capabilities and ease of access the apps provide. Broadcasting networks have played a large role in increasing the appeal of sports betting, through advertisements and deals being offered. The changes that have been made since the legalization of sports wagering have increased the fan interaction levels of NCAA competitions. The projected trajectory of sports betting participants implies an escalation in fan interaction among the collegiate level
