An Improved High-Frequency FinFET Model Capturing the Cryogenic Tunneling Effect

    No full text
An enhanced fin field-effect transistor (FinFET) model is proposed to characterize the quantum tunneling currents across ultrathin gate dielectrics under cryogenic conditions. Critically, the quantum tunneling effect persists even in the absence of an external bias voltage. To capture this effect, the model incorporates the work function difference between the materials into the conventional tunneling formula. Furthermore, a temperature-dependent correction term is integrated to extend the model’s applicability across the cryogenic-to-room temperature range. Experimental validation confirms that the proposed model accurately characterizes the cryogenic physical phenomena of FinFET devices, providing a theoretical foundation for further research on cryogenic integrated circuits. The validity of the model was ascertained by comparison with S -parameter measurements up to 66.2 GHz

Insecticidal and behavioral effects of Dysphania ambrosioides seed essential oil against Tribolium castaneum under laboratory and simulated storage conditions

This study aims to evaluate the chemical composition, antifeedant, repellent, fumigant, contact, and topical toxicity of Dysphania ambrosioides seeds EO (DAEO) against adult Tribolium castaneum, a major stored product insect. The repellency under simulated storage conditions and the acute toxicity to female rats were also assessed. GC-MS analysis revealed that DAEO was characterized by high levels of ascaridole (49,52 %), α-terpinene (17,98 %), and ρ-cymene (11,96 %). In insecticidal bioassays, the LC50 values after 24 h were 39.8 μL/L air for fumigation, 0.069 μL/cm2 for contact, and 0.090 μL/insect for direct application. The results from the antifeedant bioassay showed that DAEO significantly decreased all nutritional indexes starting from the lowest concentration, with a 56.3 % feeding deterrence index (FDI) and a 2.7-fold reduction in the relative consumption rate (RCR) at 0.32 μL/pellet. Contact exposure to non-lethal concentrations demonstrated strong FDI, reaching 99 % after 24 h at 0.031 μL/cm2. In the repellency bioassay, DAEO exhibited a strong repellent effect with 88 % and 62 % of PR (percentage of repellency) observed after 4 and 24 h, respectively, at the lowest concentration of 0.016 μL/cm2. Under simulated storage conditions, strong repellency was observed, with the proportion of insects in treated bags approximately half that in control bags after 24 h. However, this activity decreased after 72 h. Regarding acute toxicity, a dose of 10 μL/kg showed no signs of toxicity or weight loss in female rats. This study highlights the multifaceted effects of DAEO, safety, and its effectiveness under simulated storage conditions, suggesting that this EO can be considered as a promising candidate to develop an eco-friendly insecticide for controlling T. castaneum

Psychological Well-Being of Patients with Moderate-to-Severe Plaque Psoriasis Treated with Tildrakizumab: 28-Week Interim Results from a Multicenter Observational Study in Italy Using the DASS-21 Questionnaire, the BLUE Study

    No full text
Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease associated with significant physical and psychological burden. Tildrakizumab, an interleukin-23 p19 inhibitor, has demonstrated efficacy in treating moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis both in clinical trials and real-world setting. However, limited data are available on the impact of the effective treatment of psoriasis on the psychological health of patients. The aim of this study was to assess changes in psychological well-being, as well as clinical and quality-of-life outcomes, in patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis treated with tildrakizumab in routine clinical practice in Italy. Methods: This was an interim analysis (IA) of a 52-week multicenter, prospective, observational study. Adults with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis initiating tildrakizumab were enrolled. Endpoints focused on well-being and psychological health and included changes, from baseline to week 28, in Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) scores, Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), European Social Survey (ESS) items, and World Health Organization-Five Well-Being Index (WHO-5). Effectiveness was also monitored via Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI), and safety via treatment-emergent adverse event reporting. Results: A total of 115 patients were included (mean age 52.5 years, 60.8% male), 102 receiving ≥ 1 dose of tildrakizumab and completing DASS-21 evaluations at baseline and week 28. At week 28, improvements were observed in DASS-21 subscales [depression (− 2.6, 95% CI − 2.0 to − 1.0), anxiety (− 2.3, 95% CI − 2.0 to − 1.0), and stress (− 3.4, 95% CI − 4.0 to − 2.0)], accompanied by marked PASI reduction (− 13.7, 95% CI − 12.8 to − 10.1). DLQI, ESS, and WHO-5 scores also improved. Adverse events were generally mild or moderate, with no unexpected safety signals. Conclusion: In this real-world IA, tildrakizumab was observed to improve the psychological well-being of patients, reflected by a reduction in all items of the DASS-21 scale and, in parallel, confirmed its effectiveness in managing physical symptoms of psoriasis, establishing its role in the holistic management of psoriasis

Setup-Independent Quadrature Imbalance Calibration for Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Doppler Radars

Existing IQ imbalance correction methods are often impractical or challenging in real cases. Indeed, they usually require hardware modification or expensive precision actuators to create accurate and, above all, small movements. This last characteristic is strategic; indeed, if the range varies significantly during measurement, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is not constant, and thus, the IQ module varies, too. As explained in the text, a constant SNR during calibration is often required to ensure that the IQ imbalance is solely due to hardware imperfections and not to changing environmental conditions. This poses several practical challenges in replicating the procedures described in the current literature. In this article, an automatic IQ imbalance calibration method is proposed; it does not require any specific measurement settings. It finds the IQ trajectory with the maximum SNR, thus ensuring not only a constant SNR but also optimal performance, as the accuracy of ellipse-fitting methods is directly proportional to the SNR. The theoretical basis of the calibration method is carefully provided and validated with simulations and measurements. Its effectiveness is investigated both for displacement and micro-Doppler signature detection. This method can be used for many radar applications, from physiological and healthcare sensing to motion tracking and gesture detection, as shown experimentally; moreover, it can be implemented online, thus enabling the system’s automatic calibration
