Analytical solution for fuel cell electric vehicle energy management including a long-term predefined velocity profile

    No full text
International audienceThis paper proposes a new Energy Management Strategy (EMS) for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) that optimizes energy efficiency and fuel cell durability, while remaining implementable in real-time. The approach uses an analytical solution of the minimization problem for fuel consumption, which provides the constant fuel-cell power required to bring the state of charge (SoC) from its initial value to its desired final value. This global optimization, done for the initial route prediction, is included in a new control framework with a SoC regulator. This controller tracks the desired SoC evolution when the actual vehicle route is perturbed, while respecting constraints that preserve fuel cell longevity by 40 % compared to equivalent SoC controllers in the literature. The performance of the proposed EMS is assessed using Matlab/Simulink simulations for several case studies based on standard and perturbed driving cycles, showing up to a 10 % reduction in hydrogen consumption and up to a 50 % improvement in fuel cell lifespan compared to other energy management strategies

    Scale-by-Scale Nonequilibrium in Turbulent Flows

    No full text
International audienceThe Kolmogorov scale-by-scale equilibrium cascade and concepts related to it have provided the physical basis for explicit LES subgrid models since the mid-20th century. However, mounting evidence and theory have been accumulating over the past ten years for scale-by-scale non-equilibrium in a variety of turbulent flows with some new general non-equilibrium laws. One of the resulting challenges now is to translate these new non-equilibrium physics into predictive turbulence modeling.</div

Reversible Kalman Filter for state estimation with Manifold

    No full text
This work introduces an algorithm for state estimation on manifolds within the framework of the Kalman filter. Its primary objective is to provide a methodology enabling the evaluation of the precision of existing Kalman filter variants with arbitrary accuracy on synthetic data, something that, to the best of our knowledge, has not been addressed in prior work.To this end, we develop a new filter that exhibits favorable numerical properties, thereby correcting the divergences observed in previous Kalman filter variants. In this formulation, the achievable precision is no longer constrained by the small-velocity assumption and is determined solely by sensor noise. In addition, this new filter assumes high precision on the sensors, which, in real scenarios require a detection step that we define heuristically, allowing one to extend this approach to scenarios, using either a 9-axis IMU or a combination of odometry, accelerometer, and pressure sensors. The latter configuration is designed for the reconstruction of trajectories in underwater environments

Cellular Automaton Simulation Model for Predicting the Microstructure Evolution of an Additively Manufactured X30Mn21 Austenitic Advanced High-Strength Steel

    No full text
International audienceAdditive manufacturing techniques, such as laser-based powder bed fusion of metals (PBF-LB/M), have now gained high industrial and academic interest. Despite its design flexibility and the ability to fabricate intricate components, LPBF has not yet reached its full potential, partly due to the challenges associated with microstructure control. The precise manipulation of the microstructure in LPBF is a formidable yet highly rewarding endeavor, offering the capability to engineer components at a local level. This work introduces an innovative parallelized Cellular Automaton (CA) framework for modeling the evolution of the microstructure during the LPBF process. LPBF involves remelting and subsequent nucleation followed by crystal growth during solidification, which complicates and burdens microstructure simulations. In this research, a novel approach to nucleation seeding and crystal growth is implemented, focusing exclusively on the final stages of melting and solidification, enhancing the computational efficiency by 30%. This approach streamlines the simulation process, making it more efficient and effective. The developed model was employed to simulate the microstructure of an austenitic advanced high-strength steel (AHSS). The model was validated by comparing the simulation results qualitatively and quantitatively with the experimental data obtained under the same process parameters. The predicted microstructure closely aligned with the experimental findings. Simulations were also conducted at varying resolutions of CA cells, enabling a comprehensive study of their impact on microstructure evolution. Furthermore, the computational efficiency was critically evaluated

Identification of key evaluation criteria for co-development of XR applications in industrial contexts

    No full text
National audienceExtended Reality (XR) technologies—including Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality—offer useful possibilities for improving industrial processes such as training, design validation, maintenance, and quality control. However, their adoption in industry remains limited, often because existing solutions do not fully meet practical needs. This study focuses on the co-development of XR applications better adapted to industrial requirements. In a first phase, a literature review helped identify 37 evaluation criteria, grouped into eight categories. Definitions were refined based on expert input. In a second phase, over 20 professionals from different industrial sectors assessed the relevance of each criterion using a 5-point Likert scale and a ranking method. The results showed differences between academic and industrial perspectives. While academic work often highlights technical or sensory aspects, indus-trial stakeholders emphasized usability, relevance of content, and potential for innovation. These find-ings provide a clearer view of industry expectations and will inform future development of XR tools

Identifying Key Requirements for Maritime Bridge Simulators in Wind-Assisted Ship Propulsion Training

    No full text
International audienceMaritime transport is responsible for 3 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. To meet environmental regulations, technologies such as Wind-Assisted Ship Propulsion (WASP) are being considered. However, maritime officers' training needs to be adapted, as sailing is not sufficiently covered in current curricula. The SOMOS project aims to develop a navigation simulator for merchant vessels equipped with WASP, incorporating realistic training scenarios such as failure management. This simulator will enable sailors to prepare for the use of these technologies and contribute to the reduction of emissions in maritime transport. In this paper, we present the results of a student work with the goal of identifying minimal requirements for bridge maritime simulators including WASP technologies

    No full text
